Specialized Haul LT E-Bike Review
We tested the Haul LT over a few months, using it for school drop-offs, grocery runs and more. Specialized is a brand that knows how to design a bike from the ground up. While it isn’t necessarily known for its commuter and cargo offerings, that’s starting to change. Like the ST version, the Haul LT does a lot very well, making it a viable car replacement for many people.
In this video we will walk you through what we like about it and where it falls short.

    I've not had the pleasure of riding one of these myself, but the control unit located directly below the bottom bracket, with the unprotected wires and whatnot, seems like a design flaw just begging for you to bottom out and scuff and/or crush it. Am I missing something?

    • @EBikeCommuting
      @EBikeCommuting 18 дней назад

      I hadn’t thought about that. I think since this is a big heavy cargo bike, they don’t expect you to be off-roading very much so the likelihood of bottoming out and scraping the bottom is pretty low. Typically with a control unit that low I worry more about water damage however, all the electronics and cords on the Haul seemed well secured and protected from the elements.

    • @akarpy
      @akarpy 17 дней назад

      Strange decision indeed, especially since there is all the empty space there just above and behind the bottom bracket. I am sure it's the same thought process as the hard plastic fork panniers... a regular soft pannier would just compress instead of cracking.

    I don't believe the Enviolo gearing system is a limiting factor in this scenario. Instead, the 250-watt motor appears to be inadequate for the additional weight of this front-load cargo e-bike, particularly when tackling a steep 15-degree hill. Given the demands of such a situation, the motor struggles to provide sufficient power and torque. For the American market, where users often encounter varied and challenging terrains, Bosch should consider offering more robust motor options. This would ensure that riders have the necessary power and performance to handle heavier loads and steeper inclines with ease. Enhanced motor options would not only improve the usability of cargo e-bikes but also expand their appeal to a broader range of consumers who need reliable and efficient transportation solutions in diverse environments.

    It was a very enjoyable bike! During a test ride event, I experienced this feature. While its gear shifting indeed felt a bit underpowered when climbing due to the wheel size limitations, on flat terrain, the gear shifting was remarkably agile and smooth. I practically forgot about shifting gears; the bike effortlessly maintained its pace, allowing me to focus solely on riding and pedaling.

      It’s hard to say if it’s actually better since I’m so used to a manual shifter. Whereas when you are manually doing it, you can look ahead and see that an incline is coming, etc..

    Very nice review! You offer a good explanation of what are the important features to consider when looking at e-bikes. Personally, I have been riding a Gazelle TMB10 for the past 2 years and I love it. The Bosch speed motor was a perfect match to the bike, but it would have been nice to have more than 85NM of torque. Since I ride mainly on flat surfaces it doesn't really bother me and I'm able to get 50-60 miles of range with a single battery. The extended battery on the Priority, as you pointed out, is not something I would ever want, besides it looks terrible. Nice to see they are offering the Enviolo hub...that is very efficient. I have not seen a throttle offered on a Class 3 bike, except for the cheaper bike manufacturers. Thanks for making this review!

    I owned the Priority Current and sold it only after a year because I think it falls short in many ways. One way if falls short is no front suspension. Second way it falls short is no throttle. Third way mine fell short was it pulled to the right badly. Fourth way is that crappy display that you can barely see in the daylight. Fifth way lacked power and sounded like a tea kettle whistling like it would boil over. Sixth way it lacked a large enough battery to enjoy a long ride if you needed to take one. The one positive way was it was light weight and easy to take upstairs. So I just wanted to inform those who are thinking of buying this e-bike and what is lacking. There are much better e-bikes on the market for the price that they are offering for this Current model out there.

    Can you please please answer the question how do you feel about not having a suspension fork? Would you add one? I’m looking at this bike and I’m thinking of either adding a fork later or just getting larger tires. Did you ever feel like it was too Chattery over rougher roads?

      I think I prefer a suspension fork on a commuter ebike mainly because it makes it feel a bit more relaxed and cushy to ride. The Current is a great bike but it does feel stiff. I like your idea of adding a fork
