Chemistry of colour (the colour of cobalt)
This video mini-lecture was made for the 2023-2024 ITC teacher-of-the-year award (www.ITC.nl), for which I was nominated. It's about one of the key processes that causes colour of minerals in rocks, and therefore has relevance for all kinds of remote sensing, especially geological remote sensing: excitation of electrons in the 3d subshell of transition metals. Here I use ligand-field theory (in a very simple form) to discuss why cobalt-bearing minerals and compounds can be blue or pinkish-red.

Mica in oogschaduw (ITC, UTwente, NL)

Batteries 101: Froth flotation of lithium mica
It has been suggested that, now that we leave the Age of Oil behind us, we are starting the so-called Green Stone Age. That's because for so many things in our daily lives, we are dependent on rare metals and other elements that we extract from rocks. I am a Geologist, and I try to find the rocks from which we can get the materials for the Energy Transition. And what better example than lithium...

Tutorial XRF data calculations
This is a tutorial for the course 'Field measurements and validation' for our MSc students on the Applied Remote Sensing course at ITC, the Faculty of Geo-information Science & Earth Observation at the University Twente, The Netherlands. It is about the processing of elemental chemical data for minerals and rocks. It is mainly about conversions between mole fractions (e.g., mineral formula), ox...
Discolations moving through bubbles experiment
This video was recorded during a practical where students made even-sized bubbles in a soap-glycerin solution by blowing air into it through a small nozzle (made from a glass pipette). The bubbles are c. 2 mm in size. We then deformed the 'bubble raft' by pushing the sides of the raft. You can see nice dislocations forming which resemble dislocations in solid crystalline materials undergoing pl...
This is a very effective way of teaching and explaining the basics of geochemistry and its statistics. but it was just for one mineral Can you please explain the total geochemistry of major oxides and its mineralogical conversion?
wow, very impressive!! greetings from Brazil!!
Thanks a lot, very helpful!! Someone knows how to make a correction with the Loss on Ignitions? Please
Did you find the answer ?
wonder full, presentation
Thank you very much sir.
Thank you for your presentation!!! Pleas prepare another presentation by including elemental in to carbonate
Tell me the magic chemical name please
Please which chemical is you are using
Nice one, please release the video for the roasting process after these
Thank you sir
Great
Where is the next video?
Please we need the next video😢
Yes
Can I have your Email sir please! Thanks
Amazing, you have explained it so clear. As an Indonesian researcher, I can follow and understand some of the fundamental aspects in our measurements.
thank you sir
Absolutely amazing sir. Plz make few vedios about xrd, icpms and SEM data analysis. I will be very thankful to you. And also if you have time make a short vedio of how to interpret these data.
Excuse me what is the solution you used ?
I am ghaus ur Rahman From 🇦🇫Afghanistan I work gems stone Our place full mineral
what if the numbers do not add up to 100??? im working on assignment for cr-spinel where the values add up to 99.86 and was wondering whats responsible or lacking for it to not equal 100..
This is a good question and for a lot of analysis the total will not be as close to 100, so it is important to address this for the best achievable accuracy. If your total is 99.86, then that is 100% of the values you are calculating, so you calculate each as a percentage of the 99.86. In this case, they will be extremely close to the amounts you already have. So if Ti was 30.00 out of 99.86, then it is 30.042% of 99.86. I hope this helps.
Hello I am Babulal jain Video useful. Sulphur is calculate ? Contact Mobile wasps no
Thank you very much for this video. How can I calculate say Si/Al ratio from the XRF data particularly when the exact formulae of the sample is unknown?
Do you know the answere? Cpuld you share witn me?
I love to study froth flotation. Congrats👏👏 amazing experiment
Thank you very much for this video, very helpful!!!
