Part 1 - Preparing a flat drop fiber cable, into a FOSC with a rural tap splitter
Here we are entering a 6 count flat drop fiber cable using the @JonardTools FOD-2000. Most likely the fastest technique there is unless anyone has any pointers. Adding it into a prebuilt Commscope 450 A FOSC with the flat drop adapter.
In Part 2 we are splicing onto the unbalanced splitter and getting a new customer online with 1G\500M residential service.

Long customer fiber drops, splicing some laterals, and adding PONs

Here we are bringing in service to some of those harder to access customers requiring 500ft-1500ft drop cables. These typically require extending flat drop back into the plant and splicing work to be performed. The next 2 days we will be doing all the splicing on these adding 9 more customers on net. @JonardTools FC-500 Cleaver working out very well used it about 250 times so far. Figure about ...

you are dialing in the van - in lieu of trash can add some luan panels to ribs of van and make a more compact trash storage space or use old tv boxes and couple contractor bags - space is a premium - you should add a laptop, good lighting and a small ceramic heater, maybe even foam board insulation - also why not be proactive and add some wifi sniffing gear, gps, and a sound system. at any rate moving up to van even if you don't trick it out much more is a major improvement - you want to keep environment controlled and lower stress - hepa pos pressure ventilation may be a feature to add?

Nice video. I developed fibers and amplifiers for 25 years. Nice to see how you work with them in the field. You have a good understanding of how everything works. I was putting connectors on a bunch of fibers. I had just finished one of the last of them when the tension in the fiber caused the fiber to jump. When I looked down the fiber had jumped into the jaws of my Miller strippers. Fibers are suicidal

@@briceperdue7587 Hey, we might be surprised. The copper plant lasted for a century, from ye olde phone to direct dial to touch tone and ISDN and DSL, we squeezed every last drop of use out of those wires. Who's to say that single mode fiber won't have a long service life as well? We can probably get petabits per second out of the glass, just keep changing the optics at each end. Maybe upgrade the splitters at some point. Nevertheless, I am a huge fan of PON and look forward to what's coming next.

Hello Bruce , you have an amazing channel . I'm a noob to all this but I'm looking to learn as much as possible.Quuick question let's say GPON and XGS-PON are you limited to the amount of clients you can service by bandwidth each user is allocated? Like in XGS-PON since each user can get a higher bandwidth, can you on a XGS-PON network give each user 1mbs and have a larger customer base ? Instead of offering gigabit services . I hope I made some kind of sense .Thanks again and keep rocking

Most vendors will vary on this but you will typically put 32 customers on a pon is about the most common. With our olt can go to 128 but it must be a very specific build like 128 users in 1 building otherwise u don't have the light levels. But you can absolutely set customer A at 50Mb customer B at 250Mb and customer C at 1G. It's all in the software the olt can support.

A lot of the time the air compressors are used for pulp cable. Instead of the copper wires having the colored rubber coating, they are wrapped with a paper/pulp material. If any moisture gets into the cable then the copper wires short together. The air compressors keep the cable pressurized and keep the moisture out. The paper/pulp material cuts down on weight and cable diameter for high count cables.

My otdr doesn't support pon. I typically test the long run with otdr to make sure main fiber is good then our splitters are so far out in plant it's so easy to identify the issue because there is 1 splitter. I have never replaced a splitter due to non human related damage.

Residential get's a IPv4 static as in why would we change it but we don't allow residential to use the public IP on there own equipment. Business can use the public IP on there own equipment included in there service and order additional subnets also. If you want to use the public IP on your own equipment we do it on a case\case basis but the ending is almost always......so you need the public IP because your performing or participating in some type of business.

Ah so in the case of the 8CH Single fiber out, the C21 (Side A) goes to C22 (Side B). Both of those are Mux/Demux, and the channel refers to the TX wavelength (which is the RX wavelength on the B side). However in a dual fiber out, the channels on both sides are the same (C21-C21) because the TX go on 1 fiber and RX come on another keeping them separate. The Arista has the DWDM optics in it which transit/receive on certain wavelengths, which goes into the Mux/Demux, then over the dark fiber. Makes sense now, definitely is a nice easy way to do it IMO, no fancy DWDM gear, just switches, optics and passive Mux/Demux.

    • @briceperdue7587

Ability to replace the switch, and the optics without even asking permission from the big ciena transponder people. Most people I believe are using the reprogrammable dwdm optic but we are just stocking extras and always using the same channels from pop to pop.

I agree and disagree with you hence why it's on the floor and being removed from the network. I don't think "all our traffic being routed through china" is exactly what is happening. I opened a few units up and it's a broadcom chip under the heatsink. You can install network OSes on them so you don't need to always use FS firmware. But at the same time they had issues we couldn't move forward with.

Great job on the move! I always laugh at the vaults by Oldcastle becuase of.. Crown Castle. Yup doesn't mean Crown Castles in it! For the Arista management, we just did this yestearday, we moved the management IP form the actual int Management1 to the vlan itself, so interface Management1 ! (yeah theres nothing on it) But then under the vlan Interface vlan100 ip address x.x.x.x/x As long as that vlans tagged upstream, you can manage the switch. Then you don't need that loop cable. The new POP is a great work in progress. Nice amount of room for expanding the network. Can't wait to see the solar setup and the official UPS system.

Just found your videos and I am really into them! I am really curious about ISP stuff and there just is not a lot out there on youtube to watch about it. Thanks for the hard work and I look forward to more!

I suggest you go back to like the first 5 videos it really is wild to see how far it's come. I think I started around 40 customer devices and we are passing 700 customer devices in about 2 weeks. Thanks for watching!

100% we are going to paint the outside a non reflective white and the inside we have some base and paint to install to make it look more "bank friendly" :)

Are you planning to change that 20 Gbps LAG from the OLT to an MLAG once you get the second Arista online?

    • @briceperdue7587
      @briceperdue7587 2 месяца назад

This is a spoke on a spoke right this second. The Arista runs OSPF and the links are 100% routed (except mgmt). The plan is the completed ring using dwdm and 10G links. The problem with relying on the mlag is that many customers accept a direct optical handoff and they would be on the luck of the lottery which switch it's on. Ultimately yes your correct we would use mlag once the ring is completed or a second long haul fiber is introduced.

That's a lot of work in a short amount of time! Nice job. I would get rid of that 2u Tripplite UPS as soon as you can. When the battery dies, it turns of the entire ups and all output power. You have to send them back to Tripplite for a battery replacement. I had a bunch of them in my network quit on me at the 3 year mark. FWIW, I moved to CyberPower and have been super happy with them. I have about 60 of them in use on my campus. The majority of them are OR500LCDRM1U with the RMCARD205 management cards.
