    Do you think that fully flocked goose silhouettes are worth it or should I stick with non flocked?

    • @stephentheduckhunter
      @stephentheduckhunter 20 дней назад

      @@cody4312 I really think it’s a toss up personally. I like the idea of flocked but when they get muddy, it’s harder to clean. However they don’t shine as unnaturally as the non flocked. I hunted specks over some this year I didn’t like the silhouettes at all so I took them out of the spread and just used the fewer full body’s that I had. Granted, I was hunting in a high pressured area. But to answer your question, personally, I would go with the flocked if I could take really good care of them. Also knowing that if it frosts in the mornings, you’re gonna have to deal with that too. Appreciate the comment. Happy hunting.

    Pretty much it seems like you pay a ton of money built off the fact that they are the lightweight decoy and they last but if you don't ad the weights that make it the same weight as every other decoy it won't right itself and once you have it outfitted the way you need it to actually hunt smoothly between the heavy string and weights it'll weigh the same as any other and it's not as realistic as other decoys. Hmmm I'm not sure what the deal is. Maybe they should just say it lasts forever and not mention the weight. I see a lot of guides using these, and I can't imagine a guide is gonna want to go hand place ever decoy every trip. Idk for some reason I got excited about them but I think I'll just stick to the ones I'm using also I see they don't have any different head positions they are mostly high head all looking the same direction and unless you string half from the rear they are gonna look like a spooky flock of ducks facing the wind ready to lift off which I learned early on isn't good so I like to use a bunch of relaxed natural head positions. Watching wild ducks the only time they are all facing the same direction with a high head is when they are about to check out. Anyways you did a great video on them and are very knowledgeable I was looking for reviews to see what all the fuss was about with these deeks after I seen the price. You would think making that kind of money they could afford some different molds. Or have swivel heads. Or at least some feeders but they probably all gotta be centered and low so they aren't doing the back stroke all morning. Lol. The only reason I'm so picky is I gotta be in at the bottom of the flyway and we're the last ones to hunt these birds they got a doctors in busting people and at least a masters in decoy spreads so I gotta keep mine very realistic and natural to convince em it ain't a set up. If I were up north on the front lines, I could probably get away with a spread of painted 2 liter bottles and crab pot buoys for decoys and still slay em but sadly I'm not and you just about how have pet ducks for decoys to convince em to finish if you want to do it right. I'm not big on sky blasting and dove hunt style duck hunts lolol. But anyways good luck out there and I'll be sure to subscribe to see your adventures and get a good look at what real waterfowling looks like!

      They'll work in the field, but if it gets to windy they might blow around. They also don't have a lot of head positions, so if you're trying to fill a big field spread it may come up.

    Thanks bro! I messed around with my camera settings again, I tested out Picture Profile 1 and its way better than PP3. The color on screen is what i was looking at with my eyes. I dont want to do any color work in post, i want the best color out of the camera and not worry about it lol. I’ll definitely get better and more confident the more i use the camera. So I’ll probably get the hang of messing around with the footage color editing. Now for the resolution- i don’t really want to shoot in 1080, but ill stick with it because ill have so much more room on my sd card. 4k30 i get only 53 minutes. As for the fstop, I’ll definitely mess around with it and learn way more. I was concerned with low light especially duck hunting in the early hours and musky fishing in the evening. Thats why i set the fstop to 2.8 and set it to auto iso, so i could have useable footage when its darker outside. thank you so much for the advice and tips!

    I recently got a sony fx30, i specifically want to do video. I will be shooting outdoors 98% of the time-filming muskie fishing and all other fishing as well, outdoor survival stuff, all my hunts- so ducks, deer, turkey, ect. So i needed a fan to keep the camera from over heating (12 hours on a boat in the summer for muskie fishing gets hot), i wanted to be able to shoot in 4k 30fps because i like the look of 4k30. But wanted to be able to shoot in higher frame rates just in case. I also needed a camera that was sealed and waterproof. I have a 18-55mm 2.8f lens and a rode mic. I know the fx30 has all that fancy cinema settings, but i shoot with auto iso, fixed 2.8f and I use the picture profile that uses the rec709, instead of shooting in slog3 and color grading afterwards. I thought i would be able to do slog3, but its way to much for me with what ill be filming and exposure for slog3 is hard to get perfect outside because lighting isnt fixed like a studio. I also needed a camera with awesome auto focus. So the fx30 was a no brainer, its really compact for a cinema camera and wasnt super expensive for what you get. I know this comment is all over the place lol. If you have any tips or recommendations, i would absolutely appreciate it.

    Check out Delta Duck leases out there in northeast Arkansas. They own Duxmen outfitters. That is Who we lease from and they have tons of options along the Cache and Bayou Deview. They are a little bit more on the expensive side though. How do you go about leasing your fields? Do you talk to the farmer directly or do you lease from a sub lease agent?? I would love some information. Thanks! ohh and we are from Bama also! Roll Tide!

    • @stephentheduckhunter
      @stephentheduckhunter Год назад

      Roll Tide! I prefer to work directly with farmers, most of the time as they are my kind of folks. However, there are some turds out there too. I’ve been hunting the same area for about 12 years so I think it helps network being in one area as opposed to moving around. I like to be in an area close to public land as well since I do a good bit of that. My advice is be honest and upfront with whoever you talk to and do what you say you’re going to do, be good to the farmers, communicate and respect their land and the resources. Things are really hard to screw up with that approach, I’ve found. Bad reputations spread much faster than good ones.

  • @warrenhunts
    @warrenhunts Год назад

    100% agree - I have 4 dozen of them. (2x mallard, 2x wigeon) They aren't the most realistic decoy out there, especially the wigeon. But past a certain point I don't think realism matters. Visibility & contrast are far more important. The only thing I disagree with is the jerk string. Their drops are too long. They're roughly 6-8" long, which means you have 12-16" of hand movement that is effectively 'slop' where the decoy isn't really moving. Using the coated steel mainline is great though.

    • @stephentheduckhunter
      @stephentheduckhunter Год назад

      Yeah, you’re probably right on the drop length. I kinda yank the string hard so I never think about it. I appreciate you checking out my video! Thank you.

    im hunting public land for sand hill cranes in texas. We got to walk a mile to get to the field and set up decoys. trying to figure out whether I should go with those silhouettes or Socks. I wish they had a backpack style bag for those of us who have to walk a ways to set up blinds, decoys, etc. Would that bag with 5 dozen decoys be a tough haul if ya had to walk a mile?

    • @stephentheduckhunter
      @stephentheduckhunter Год назад

      I don’t envy that one bit. Sandhills are a weary bird and you have to be buttoned up to get on them. I think a mile trek is tough regardless. The bag has a decent shoulder strap and handles. I can’t confirm if sandhill skinnies will fit in it though. Let me put some thought into it because that’s a great question and an interesting thought. What’s the terrain like? Would a sled be a nightmare to haul?

    • @rbljackson
      @rbljackson Год назад

      @@stephentheduckhunter terrain varies depending on the spot. Sometimes its trails thru mesquite trees and tumbleweeds. Other times its along a dirt road against a field edge. I've seen sled marks where someone has used that method, but they stick to the dirt road/two track along the road. The area where we are setting up is a cut field though, about an 1/8 mile from a Playa/shallow pond a mile from the parking area. Im thinking a large backpack might hold 2 dozen of the crane socks, along with ammo, field chair, extra gloves, etc, but that means no lay out blinds.The backpack im using is called an eblerstock dragonfly bag.

      @@stephentheduckhunter I've not gotten to hunt with them yet but like I said they are definitely for contrast and visibility from long range. One thing I did notice as the black is fully flocked is that any little bit of dirt or debris is noticeable. Just say dead skin off your hands shows up really well so probably going to need to bring a cloth to wipe them down. Not sure if I'll use like 6 in 2 groups as two family groups or spread them throughout the spread. One of the reasons I got them is nostalgia, I remember as a kid (10-13 or so) we had 1/2" plywood life size silo's that were just spray painted black and white. Boy I remember my younger brother and I carrying about 20 of those things along with my gun about a quarter mile and let me tell you I'm glad they are made out of the corrugated plastic now.

When I bought a more expensive, nicer call, I was able to get the sound I was looking for, which trained my ear and mouth to make the sounds I wanted to make. Quack Head makes a cheap snow goose call that will make speck sounds. I'll make a video for you going more in depth on the topic. I appreciate your questions, my friend. Happy hunting szn.

    “Buy your wife a gun, then shoot this piss out of it.” I love that, but I gotta find a wife first…

      I haven’t that I’m aware of. I can see where that would be an issue for sure though. I’d be curious to see exactly what you’re referring to so I can look for it and watch out for if it happens!
