I started a new channel so that my videos with an "outdoor vector" have a home. Some videos may include, fishing (fly, tenkara, spin), backpacking, hiking, camping, biking, gear reviews, etc... Enjoy!
My Stepping Stone Pathway with River Rocks
I spent some time outdoors in a different way and put together this little timelapse video while creating a stepping stone pathway in my backyard. I'm not a professional, but I think the pathway came out quite nice.

Dog Sledding with Bear Ridge Adventures in Park City Utah
Просмотров 705Год назад
Have you heard about the legendary 1000 mile Iditarod? Or seen the movie Togo? It's been something I wanted to do for a long time. Dog Sledding! We finally get a chance to experience dog sledding as a family while we were visiting Park City, Utah with Bear Ridge Adventures. I go over some of how the experience went and you'll see some footage of what it's like on our 2 hour sled ride. It was a ...
Alaska Day 7 - Hiking Portage Pass Trail in Whittier (Chugach National Forest)
Просмотров 4422 года назад
It's Day 7 and our last full day in Alaska. The plan today was to drive from Seward to Whittier and hike Portage Pass Trail before we head back to Anchorage to catch our flight back the next morning. The views from the top of the pass are amazing. Even the 4K video doesn't do it justice. #portagepasstrail #portageglacier #portagelake #glacier #hiking #chugachnationalforest #AntonAndersonMemoria...

Alaska Day 5 & 6 - Seward and Hiking to Exit Glacier at Kenai Fjords National Park
Просмотров 2812 года назад
Our normal day 5 plan was adjusted by the weather again and we didn't get to go on a Kenai Fjords Cruise Tour as planned. The wind was just to blustery and the seas were high. So we decided to just take a rest day and do some walking around Seward. We also spent some time researching what hikes we'd like to do in our last two full days. On day 6, the plan was to hike the Exit Glacier Overlook t...

Solo Stove Lite and Jetboil Flash Side-By-Side Comparison
By far the most relatable review of this pack that I've seen. I just bought one, so you should ask FP to endorse you! We'll done. Thanks
Awesome, thank you for watching!
What kind of edging did you use?
I used some basic steel landscape edging I had previously removed from a prior project (flower beds that I removed).
@@OutdoorVector ok thank you
Thanks for watching!
If you don’t get good reception how does Gypsy work?
If I remember correctly, basically you can pre-download (with WiFi or when you have coverage) the area that you'll be in. That way all you need is a GPS signal for the app to work correctly and trigger at particular locations. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I felt like I was there with you guys. You guys had a good sense of humor.
Thanks so much for your comments and reply. It was such a fun trip and just being in the national forest/parks was amazing.
I was there in 2022. This is a good video because its exactly what it is like. People and all.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome review. I was recently gifted a 2.0 by a dear friend. This is my first sling pack and I feel completely spoiled. I'm stoked to set this one up. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for watching and I’m glad it was useful!
Thanks - very helpful!
Thanks for watching!
What size rod
I was using my 9’ 5wt.
@@OutdoorVector ok sweet what abt the reel?
I was using my Cabela’s 9’ 5wt rod with an old Wind Water 5 wt reel I had and I put a 5 wt. sink tip fly line on it. The reel is in this other video I made ruclips.net/video/-cayGf7DZH8/видео.htmlsi=2fzhXJVpM9g9e6sz.
Andy is an absolute legend on the Kenai... one of the best guides ever.
For sure, good times and great knowledge to share.
What time of year were you on the Kenai?
This was end of Sep - early Oct. Pretty late in the season from what I hear.
A bit early for that run? They start running by beginning Feb. Y’all just got there super late on a very busy day. Weekdays are the best days to great ahead of foot traffic.
I can’t ever really tell it seems. We did get there really late in the day. Thanks!
Just out of curiosity did you get a permit to film there?
I just asked the guide if it was ok to record.
Kinda sucks when 2 fly fishing guys take up as much space as 5 or 6 guys using spinning reels! but nice to see you guys having a good time instead of a bunch of south/central american immigrants
I make a point to try to leave space to not crowd people. It is hard when it's a particular "target season" and everyone loves to be out. That being said, I've had the good fortune of always bumping into kind people when fishing, whereever they've come from.
Just so you know, the guides need a special permit to fish the upper Kenai. Anybody with a license can fish it. Looks like you guys had a good time, which is the most important thing. That's a great stretch of water.
Good to know! Thanks for watching.
thank you
You're welcome! And thanks for watching!
My husband and I got sooo lost. Foggy night, and we actually saw Lucy of roaring fork. SCARY 😳
Lucy of Roaring Fork! Yikes! Thanks for watching. 😳
Beautiful Drive. What day and month is this?
This was in June for a summer vacation. I think many other times of the year would be good also.
You would think a Kenai guide would have better fish handling skills. Dry hands, rubbing them against this flannel shirt . He's a clown.
Why would mine not be making noise while I pull line out? First time fly fishing today and it was making noise while I pulled line out until about half way through my day? Any thoughts?
Nvrm! Based off of your video it was easy enough to figure out I had broken a little plastic piece in the reel 🎉 only $2 for a 3 pack on Amazon and I’ll be back out on the river soon! Thank you
Yep, I think most likely sounds like the little clicker piece broke for some reason.
I also have a Summit Sling 2.0. The zipper on the rear compartment is more water resistant than the others. I wouldn't consider it waterproof but items in there have a better chance of staying dry.
That’s a good point. Thanks for watching.
Great review, thanks so much! Hey on the shock cord for your water bottle, the end tab is two pieces, pull out the top and you can thread your 2 cords through and into the alligator teeth and snap it back together.
Great idea/find! Thanks for watching!
That is a huge bow. Congrats people dream of catching that size all their lives.
Thanks, really appreciate it.
I got a small comment/critique on the video: Look at the LENS of the camera and not "over there" at the screen/viewfinder. When you talk to someone, you look them in the eye...we...the audience is "IN" the camera so look at the lens. Other than that, great video dude!
Thanks, yep I need to do that.
Thanks! Very helpful and your doing awesome!
Thanks so much for watching!
Well done!! Most reviews of this sling that I've found online only display the pack on a desk or countertop to display the pockets and attachment points. This is the first video I've found where the presenter actually puts the sling on and shows how it functions. I bought the 2.0 version as a result of your review. As far as waterproofness, most of my fly boxes are plastic with rubber gaskets. For 'must-keep-dry' items, zip-lock bags work for me.
Yep, ziploc bags work great for things like my fishing license or wallet or car keys. Thanks for watching!
I know this review is 2yrs old. Don’t know if you still use this pack. This was a good review. I enjoyed the honest review. I want to let you know that the end cap on the water bottle lanyard is detachable. Just pry the two pieces apart reset the small bungee into the cap and push them back together and voila, as good as new.
Great idea! Thanks for watching!
Hello!! very nice review. thank you.tight lines always
Thanks for watching!
He didn't mention that you have to pay for the tours on the app. This is not a free app. $12.99 to go through the Smoky's.
Yep that’s true. Thanks for making that clear.
@@OutdoorVectorand without reception in the woods how does it work?
Is it worth trying to wade here or just leave them in the truck ? Seems like easy casting
Having your waders will make it easier to get there, but you can always just get a little wet and wet wade. But once you’re there you don’t need to wade.
Nice review, especially how you use yours and where you stow and arrange gear. I picked up the identical sling pack (but not fishpond branded) at Mad River Outfitters for $59.00.
Wow, great deal! Thanks for watching.
Hermoso
Gracias!
If u don't mind telling,in which part of earth was this ? Where do I get to see and ride one of these,i am pretty curious!
This was near Park City, Utah, look up Bear Ridge Adventures.
Looks like all the doggies were having a good time! They're not struggling at all. In fact, they're excited to get going (woof, woof ,woof) And look how they all trot along🐕 🐕 🐕 🐕 🐕 🐕 🐺 🐺 🐺 🐺 🐺❤❤❤❤❤❤. Hope you all had fun!
I agree. They were definitely loving running from what I could tell.
@@OutdoorVector Yup...especially with their dog buddies!!!!🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕😅😅😅💥❤️
Oh man, I worked at it for ages, I thought the washer was purpose made (inverted to suit), revisited, turned the washer, and yahoo, it worked, regards Mike, Wales UK
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
Bout to camp here tonight. Gunna try for whites this evening and tomorrow morning. Any advice?
Sounds fun! My advice would be to keep your fly or lure lower in the water column when stripping/retrieving it back. I had success keeping my fly rod tip down in the water when stripping it back.
I would think that the drag “switch” is supposed to tighten the movement of the gear that surrounds that brass disk, thus constraining the movement of the gear affixed to the spool spindle. I can’t imagine that the “brass disk” is intended to bind against the actual spool. Your solution provided some additional strength to bind down on the drag gear when tightened. Review the mechanism in that light and you may be able to improve the drag strength even more (if you feel it needs it). Nice work and a great explanation.
Thanks, good tip!
Wow 👏! Joan
Thanks for watching!
I honestly think dog sledding is cruel like if you agree
Definitely is but I think as long as they are huskies is not environmentally cruel
From what I could tell they seem to love running and being out on the trail. Their disposition was excited and happy still after the run too. Thanks for your comment.
How is it cruel? These dogs would much rather to run and doing what they’re bred for than forced to be pent up in an apartment.
Thanks for the Gypsy Guide suggestion, it looks interesting and very fairly priced. I've been through the Smokies, but the other 3 of my family have not. This addition would certainly make it more interesting for all.
Hope you enjoy it!
Neat prints!!
Thanks for the visit!

@@OutdoorVector that’s so freakin’ cool!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the visit!
Very in depth review. I think I’ll stick with my vest because of the weight factor. For you back I would suggest a lumbar belt, they have a loop to hold your net and can be adjusted for comfort so you can keep your vest and keep your gear out the water. It works fairly well. All major fly fishing manufacturers make them.
Yep definitely looking into and trying a lumbar belt!
You actually had the best guide Andy. We call him the George Carlin of the Kenai. we have used him for years. I love that guy.
So awesome! Thanks.
At least Andy didn't give you his list of 40 questions you do not ask your guide
Hahaha! I really felt like we were peppering him with questions...
All those holes look so much different when the water is low.
Water levels affect so much
Suprising Andy didn't yell at you when you got that big rainbow. He always did when I did so I could lose it.
You had the best guide on the upper Kenai with Andy. I've fished with him about 2 dozen times and every time was a blast. Love him and his humor
He was awesome! I did take me a few minutes to get used to his humor, but he is the best!
Great review, and your last con is a deal breaker. Once a pack gets as large as this one is, I would argue that it is more comfortable and better for your lower back if the weight is distributed symmetrically over both shoulders. So for me this means going back to my pack vest* for heavy loads, and keeping a sling pack for light trips of short duration. Thanks for making your review which gels this in my mind. *After going through a number of rather expensive options, my preferred pack vest is the Patagonia Sweet Pack Vest, no longer in production. Lumbar packs suck, at least the ones I've tried, because it kills the ease of access which is the whole point.
Thanks for the feedback. Yep, definitely the main reason I started looking at hip packs.
Hey so my husband and I are taking this hike, wanting to see the Grotto Falls, but I’m a little confused on parking. I thought there was a parking lot designated for parking. Where do I park my vehicle? What address did you put in your GPS (Trillium Gap)? I’m a little confused on that part.
There is a small parking area you can park in. You can catch a brief glimpse of it at about 0:25 in my video on the left. On Google maps you can find it here: Grotto Falls Parking goo.gl/maps/Mfcodrvi4ZeKuwjS9 But when we went, the parking area was entirely full so we needed to continue up the road a bit (past the trailhead) and we parked on the side of the road on a small pullout area (not formal parking).
