Dolos 10km Trail Run - 7 September 2024
The inaugural 10km Dolos Trail Run hosted by the NRB Harriers Club in Richards Bay.
A flat 10km route on dirt road, single track through the bush, on sea sand, on cement piers, a wooden bridge, and some mud.
The race started at 05:30 in the morning. Very overcast and lots of puddles & mud due to a rainy night.
Good fun, beautiful area, awesome weather for the run. There was a light drizzle before the race started but that cleared in time for an amazing run.

Ngoje trail run (about 20km west of Eshowe in KZN). I entered the 24km event. Beautiful run through indigenous forests, plantations, herb farm, and sugar cane farm. I live in Richards Bay that is very flat. Once a week I go to a hill called Strandlopertjie Hill. (Strandlopertjie is an Afrikaans or Dutch word that can be translated to Little Beach Walker). Very interesting video. Can I ask why you can’t have earphones? I couldn’t imagine sound such a long marathon without music to keep me motivated
I think it has something to do with: When you run with earphones you might not hear Marshal / Referee instructions or traffic. Also, it could be possible for someone to transmit pacing to the runner that is not allowed for the elite runners. I do not use earphones --> I want to hear mother nature and the runners around me. There are some runners who ran with a portable speaker and broadcasted music along the way. Some in their hands, others carried it in a backpack.
@@andremaakal6069 ah thanks so much for the reply. That does make sense. Having seen a few videos of the marathon, all the people cheering the runners on from the side are amazing. I wouldn’t want to miss out on their support. That would be motivation enough :)

Maar ek het goeters gesien wat ek Sondag heeltemal misgekyk het. Dit laat my dink ek sou dalk al 14 ure van die dag weer kon kyk. En dit bevestig eintlik dat dit 'n meer spesiale dag was as wat ek in die oomblik besef het. Baie baie dankie!

Hi. You should start an easy fitness program. Something like walking 1km or 2km twice per week. Then you build up slowly. Soon you will be able to run the 5km Park Run on Saturdays. Then you level up to 10km, 21.1 and a full marathon. And then you continue towards a Comrades medal!

my dad ran the comrades yesterday as well, unfortunately he had to drop out at 20km to go because his sugar was too low and they had trouble getting it up
The Comrades is an amazing adventure. Sad that your dad had to retire from the race, but your health is more important than a medal. Hope he recovers fully and ready to join Comrades 2025!
