NORTH BROTHER ISLAND
North Brother Island is an uninhabited patch of land located smack dab in the middle of the East River between the Bronx and Rikers Island. It was the site of the infamous Riverside Hospital for quarantinable diseases-the place where Typhoid Mary finally succumbed to her namesake illness in 1938. After World War II, up until 1951, the island was repurposed as housing for veterans and their families. It then played host to a rehabilitation center for adolescent drug addicts. After the facility closed in the 1960s (amid allegations of corruption) the island became a bird sanctuary, permanently closed off to the public.

Alpine Boy Scout Camp Trail
Просмотров 322 года назад
A nice track, I don't know what that other reviewer is referencing regarding 12 miles. I found about 2 miles on the yellow trail that makes a nice loop. Nothing crazy but close enough to home to make it a nice evening spot after work. Not the easiest to find and it's not marked well. But a fun ride regardless

The Palisades without doubt the Hudson Valley’s most unique geological feature weathered a lot, literally and figuratively, over the years until a group of women stepped forward to save them. Though best known for the spectacular vertical walls between Haverstraw and the George Washington Bridge, the Palisades ridgeline actually extends all the way south to Staten Island, spanning in total arou...
My Trip Up The Old the Putnam Line

the Putnam Line once ran from the Bronx all the way up to Brewster, New York. One of the coolest remnants from this can be found near the trail’s southern end The rusting remains of an old train station, This was once the Van Cortlandt Park stop, one of two stops in the Bronx. So interesting to stand here and force your brain to picture it as a fully active railroad station Construction on the ...

TRIP TO FORT LEE PART 2

On June 29, British ships began arriving in the New York harbor. Over the next two months, a steady stream of additional ships would arrive, carrying more and more British and Hessian troops. (Hessians were German mercenary soldiers hired by the British to fight in the war.) While the main body of Washington's army was on Manhattan and Long Island, work began on a fort here in July 1776, which ...

If you're looking for a big day on the bike give this route a try - you will cover just about all the trails in both Alpine and Rockleigh (except the blue at Rockleigh) starting with ease fast rolling terrain progressing to lots of elevation and the many ravine crossing the parks are known for. The Rockleigh end is quite challenging with extreme elevation so think about pacing yourself. Heading...

The story of Bartow-Pell began in 1654, when Thomas Pell, a physician from Connecticut, bought about 50,000 acres from the Lenape people, who had inhabited the land for centuries. By the end of the Revolutionary War, the Pell estate comprised 220 acres, which were purchased in 1836 by a Pell relative, Robert Bartow, who built the present Greek Revival mansion. The old vancortlant park Putnam train station and the trestle bridge is up for a reason. Yeah they they rip off the train tracks and made it to a trailer bike. Which is 100% true. I have a spiritual feeling that they are gonna wind up having trains running back soon I'm telling you. Look at mayrook connect they have the trailer and the train tracks. I heard that they gonna trains running there where people could see the trains running again while they are riding their bikes and running and jogging. Alots of Abandoned Rail road s are coming back to life slowly but surely I'm keeping it 100% real. That's the reason why you see the curve Putnam trailer and you could still see the double trestles.

@@CarlosPerez-td6ur Another thing to if you ride pass tibbitsbrook park 🏞️ you will see four white marks and the dubble trestles and train tracks ties. Go check out the first Birdge putmam and you will see that they are definitely repainting them the 1904 Birdge and they cut some weeds on the side trestles. When you ride that little Birdge putmam look for 104 on the ground where the end of the trestle.
