Just a little curious, Mr.Suit and Tyler, have you ever thought of needing to repent for the things you did in these games, and how you felt when doing them? Have you ever felt that what you were doing in these games was so bad that you needed to actively seek God again to atone? I ask because sometimes I wrestle with this kind of stuff as well.

So Plato had this interesting idea around education. He had this idea that some people were just born to rule, Philosopher-Kings, and we should spend a huge amount of time and energy educating these people to make the best possible decisions. One thing he said was in terms of pretend-play, or even dramatic performances--he would encourage this for these kids, but he said it was absolutely VITAL that they never, ever, pretended to be a bad person. He said that even the touch of empathy with villainy, or an attempt to see the world through that perspective, would taint their ability to make decisions forever. They needed to be absolutely pure, even in their imaginations. I think about that a lot sometimes when I think about how we recreate--it seems silly, and almost dangerously myopic for kids to be raised with JUST ONE VIEWPOINT NO OTHERS, but I also wonder if there's a bit of truth to it.

It's often said that you need to know your history so as not to repeat it, but I can't help but think, especially when you see news of copycat crimes of various types emulating past actions, that perhaps there is something to be said for ignorance of such events possibly *reducing* the rate at which they are repeated, given that each individual repeating the action would need to come to the conclusion that it is even a possible course of action independently, without merely being told it is something that can be done.

Ill say something that may annoy you. Im a game developer, I released a game, i gave my life for studying until id start weeping of being tired in pursuit of not creating game but being better at art. Ive been since then in this search of beauty, of doing something artistic that is bigger than i am and even tho im working in the industry and i devoted my life to make what people consume, I don’t get why many have this obsession and see gaming , not creating games, as this profound endeavor when you are just experiencing entertainment and art. Many games have a profound impact in out lives, with stories and settings that truly touch us in a different way but those are very, very rare games and although consuming them is a uniquely touching experience, why being obsessed on the consumption without a way to turn it into something meaningful. Spending all day gaming, exploring everything that a game offers , for what end ? You barely change compared to true search of meaning and self improvement through real experiences, education, work, building relationships. Why the need to explore something that will be just entertainment sometimes? Why wasting your time going over dozens of games that will be a note on your mind, having only the value of entertainment when truly amazing experiences are so rare and fulfilling when you actually have them ? Sincerely, as someone who would describe myself with aspects of being an artist, I don’t get it, I didn’t become a professional and made my life goal to be an artist because i played all day. I played one or two games that had a deep impact on me and after learning how they were done, the game itself became meaningless cause id only see people’s effort on very specific fields bringing true dedication that became a final product. I got inspired by the people doing and their deeply love for creating, not for a final product that reflected their job. I know artists, i know directors, developers, i read and have a love for them sharing, not a game, people.

I only play linear singleplayer and handheld games only. As a kid I also wanted the whole world but as an adult I don't have the time anymore and yet I play more games than ever before. I got into Street Fighter Alpha 3 a month ago and learned 2 characters (Ken and Cody) and it's sooo much fun because a fight can only last maximum 90 seconds. Playing PS1 games like Colin McRae Rally 2.0, Silent Hill, Croc and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on my Anbernic RG35XX-H (wich is a pocketable Emulation Handheld) was a revelation. It's never late to play games. Modern gaming is not full filling for me and I know it's hard sometimes but playing old and linear games changed my perspective on videogames.

If it helps. It seems like we play a lot of different games but it's just an illusion. We always do the same things with different textures. Maybe the only different game is Zelda breath of the wild because of how you can solve the puzzles differently. For the rest it's the same game for 30 years lol so if you want to stop for a month you can be aware that you are not missing anything new

Keeping up with my studies, having a full time job and having bills to pay really puts a stress on trying to experience these digital worlds. Making the time also puts a strain on my study and/or sleep schedule. However, I've been replaying GTA IV after a few years of stepping back from it to focus on life and some other random games and I have to say it's like falling in love all over again.

I left them. I left anime also. And the truly beautiful thing is that i left them not because i had a girlfriend or a job, or something else to do. I left them because i played enough games to see that it is a trap and there is no lasting joy in there. Im looking for true happines, not just chemical excitement. The Hero's journey, just that this time in real life. See ya in Heaven.

Don't you wish you could just freeze time at any moment and get all the gaming you want out of your system? Unfortunately, that's not a thing (though it should be!). The best we can do is enjoy the few hours we get each day (or sometimes week) enjoying the games that we love or discovering new ones. I know you want to play ALL THE GAMES. So do I! But even with all the free time in the world, that's not possible. There are so many games out there, and even more in development. So I encourage you to take your time in these game worlds, and enjoy them to the fullest. We can't play all the games, but we can at least make positive memories of the ones we do end up playing. :) Lately I've been playing the first Final Fantasy for the NES. I've played it once or twice years ago, but never got too far. I'm determined to beat it this time!

Oh great, another guy whining about how he can't properly engage with a completely optional hobby. How can you complain that you don't have time, when you're spending hours and hours on experiences you espouse to not getting anything out of? Either find an enjoyable way of interfacing with the medium or just drop the hobby altogether. There isn't a point to engaging with something that's solely for entertainment if it doesn't entertain you.

What a thought provoker outta nowhere, idk why but this made me reflect on my gaming experiences in the 2020's vs as a kid. I still want to put many hours into games but back in the day when I woke up on a Saturday morning playing for 10 hours would feel like 100 hours of progress with a whole bunch of good experiences, now when I play for 10 hours it feels like I've made 0 progress and I also feel like I've been working a dead end job grinding but without any pay, far too many games these days just bloat their games up as much as possible without quality content and I know big games aren't the problem because the Witcher III felt fresh every time I played it, well... except my lame personal quest of discovering all the ? in Skellige *shudder*This was incredibly well made. I assumed you had like 50k+ subs. Gaming is still great, but I tend to buy indie now instead of triple A, triple A defo feels like its lost its way in the last decade with the odd Red Red Redemption II here and an Elden Ring there.

I totally get this feeling. On the flip side, if you dedicate your fleeting free time to a single digital world, you’ll love the immersion but it will take so long to complete the game that everyone will have almost forgotten about it and there are so few people to talk about it with. Plus you will have missed out on so many other new games 😢

As a 45 year old with full time job (often 60 plus hours a week) and family responsibilities it takes me forever to complete most modern games two to four months or more for a single must play title. Ive been working on Baulders Gate 3 for the last two and a half months now. Thank the Gods you can save pretty much anytime and anywhere. Ill inch my way forward until i finish eventually. I just hate trying to avoid all the spoilers for a game until i can finally get to the end myself. 😆

A game I got recently that is perfect for people in this situation is Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed. I played yesterday for 4 hours before work and felt like I had seen everything the game could have to offer because they throw so much cool stuff at you, but you can easily see that theres still a lot more to do. 5 different small open worlds all based in different countries, and I have only seen 1 but it still gave me more as the player than so many games have been lately. It truly is a game that values your time and experience as a player. Note: If you want to get into it, I find the second easiest difficulty a fun way to get a power trip while still being able to die, but dying does not really net any loss so I feel like this is the best gameplay experience you can get.

I dont even have a job yet and I feel what you mean. Even when I have plenty of times to play video games, I just cannot enjoy such "big" games like that anymore. I did try and had some fun with games like BOTW, but it is nothing compared to short and packed games that does not waste any time with gameplay, Ninja Gaiden 2 would be a golden example. I believe Elden Ring is the only "big world" game I enjoyed, but again, it is mostly credited to game wasting no time, and every minute I feel like I am playing a game (except the snowy end game areas maybe)

This might sound counter intuitive but I think that what you need is to stop trying to keep up, just play whatever looks cool (even if it's old) for as long as it can hold your attention and feel free to drop it even if you haven't finished it, play exclusively for the enjoyment of playing for a while and see if it solves the issue.
