Join me for a chatty long run. This is my first long run of 2024 in my training for my 'A' race of 2024. The race is 104km with 6500mt elevation and a 32hr cut off. Bear with me on some of the audio. It got quite windy and it was catching my mic. Any sound editing was warping my voice hugely so it sounded even worse. I have a mic mod on the way for the GoPro :) I am an XMiles athlete. I WON! || PURE ELITE WORLDS BIKINI WINNING T WALK || CHARLOTTE CLARKE UK ||
Well done for what you did, and all the reflection is equally, if not more important, than pushing past sensible and safe limits! Ive signed up for the 101km next year, I know it'll be a huge challenge for me as it took me 18hrs to do race to the stones which is a lot less hilly. Lots of purbeck time needed!! Well done 👏
Fantastic running. I ran the 50 and that ruined me. Feeling sick and taking on 100k of those non stop hills, i would've provably drove hohe before it stsrted
Well done, Charlotte. That looks great and I'm very tempted if it's on again...although I'm thinking those prison floors look even harder than tarmac!
I was there doing the double. You were always very polite with your overtakes. Definitely type2/3 fun!
how was it to do
Would you run this marathon? 😅
Really sorry you had such a bad race. Feeling yucky 5km into a 100km race is… not ideal. I did Thames path 100k in September and had the opposite experience. First half good. Last 5 hours I couldn’t eat and could barely drink. Ended up having a lie down in the medic tent at the finish. If it had been the other way round I’d defo not have finished. Just think tho, you ran more than a marathon when at your worst. That’s quite something! 👏👏👏
😢 Not being able to take in any food or drink is just a nightmare. You did well to get as far as you did. Best of luck for the next one 👍🙂
@@markg99 oh it was not nice! And thank you so much! ☺️
Hey Buddy, I hope you're doing well. Really I Love to watch how you enjoy your daily activities. I watch almost all of your videos. But I've noticed your channel isn't monetized!!
Probably one of the only races that I won't get to recce so this video is very handy. Thank you, looks like it more inclined for a road to trail. And after watching that I'm defo wearing calf compression just to avoid the stingys😂😂😂😂😂 I think I'm going to go for the tecton X3
ahhh glad it was helpful! those stingys did not hold back haha! ooooh how're you finding the tecton x3? I've had the first and second iterations but haven't tried the x3!
@@CharlotteClarkeUK I havent clicked buy yet 😂 I've got slipgoat 5s at the minute but they are dreadful 😂
This is me next year in June training camp can't wait 😅
🙏🙏🙏
Looks like you both had so much fun! Well done! 😃
Nice to have u back 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ahhhh thank you!!
That's a loooog day! Well done, great tips thank you 😊
Charlotte, what greens do you use please?
Definately won't be doing UTS - the field sizes are way, way too big for our hillsides - especially when including the most popular mountain in the UK. Not to mention the questionable ethics of UTMB / Ironman. Support properly sized local clubs & races.
This is an interesting one. I think that night-time running might be a challenge for me, and I've heard from other ultrarunners that it's the midnight to 4am stint where you're most likely to DNF. I'm not quite sure how to prepare for it though
It is very instructive to see the differences between your runs. The weather must have made some difference as well? You sure had good weather there! Your eating strategies for running and recovering are really well thought out.
This is actually helpful, just to see that some runs go bad! I've had those, and once in a while unfortunately it's my race/run that goes bad. I can also really relate to not wanting to have sticky fingers!
Loved that video congrats on staying awake and doing the session after it tremendous mental strength which is more important then physical strength in endurance running 👍
I ran the UTS 100km last year but didn't do all nighters. I did practice what I call the "transitions" meaning I would start a run at 7pm and end at 10pm or start at 3.30am and finishing around 7am. Worked for me as I did manage to complete it (only just)!
I can see how this would be useful experience to have ahead of the race. I guess you just have to deal with recovery properly afterwards. I'm going to look up the Stinson. Definitely don't hear a lot about them, but they sound comfy and versatile.
Yeah it was definitely something I needed to do for myself and definitely don’t feel the need to do again 😅 I just didn’t want to experience something like this for the first time on a mountain 20+ hrs in the race 😅 This was 2 weeks ago now and fortunately feel all good for it and glad I tried to get straight back into my sleep pattern instead ended up in a jet-laggy kind of scenario! The Stinson are so great! 🙌🏻
If you had a race this long, would you try an all nighter first?? For me it was important!
Loved the video again absolutely beautiful trails and great stuff with the back 2 back runs, I've my long run this weekend so I think I'll be packing the crustless sandwiches 2😊 when is your race
Jealous of access to that coast path.. love running along there when I get down to Swanage on a break.. one last section I haven’t run is between kimmeridge bay and chapmans pool… and I’ll get half of that with the Lullworth ultra route. Think I’ll have to try to get a weekend trip or the summer holidays so the range is closed, and a bus to Lullworth and run back to Swanage. Think it would be a good session. Can’t believe your Garmin isn’t telling you off with two back to back runs.. so insulting with an over reaching when do half that distance 😂
Welcome back! Very excited for the series and your journey!
Yeah i just found your page last week and the second video i watched you cried all the way through basicslly i thought doesnt bode well for the Subscribed viewers , lol this was better , 😂 btw sound disappears for a moment 2 mins from the end ,maybe mic issues ?
Ooooo yes that’s a weird 20s silence isn’t it 😮 def on upload because I definitely had a voice in editing 😅 oops! And on the bad run video- everyone else has said how useful/real it was to have not hidden that I had a bad run so I won’t filter those and only show the good ones. It also had a disclaimer at the start that said if you were after a good run to watch, don’t watch that video 🙃😅
ahh I used to love running the routes around weymouth when I lived there . these views where your running is stunning
SUCH a stunning place to run isn’t it! Very lucky!
its beautiful , not quite the same running around the streets of London , I will get some runs in when I visit back home though @@CharlotteClarkeUK
As a Dutchman I thought I knew every stroopwafel variant. But one with cafeïne is new to me 😂
Haha I’m not sure how traditional they are… 😅 but they do the job and are tasty mid run!!
Isn’t it mad what a difference there can be in a week! How’ve your runs been this week??
Been really windy and wet here in Cumbria been a few trees blew down in whinlatter forest was closed for a couple of days so park run cancelled. On a very serious note don't cut crusts off your bread 😂😂😂😂 . Thanks so much for your time making these videos much appreciated 👍👍
@@martinpenrice ahaha crusts only cut off for running because I have jaw issues so less tough while running and chewing 😅 absolutely a crust eater any other time 😂
Good video, keep trail running fr$$ and remember to have fun ! No gadgets, time pieces ,goals etc. smile 😊!!!
Hi just found your channel ☺️ you cant beat abit of running an a good munch along the way.. its normally a pub stop too for a warm up..
a warm up after? or warm up into? haha
Hi Charlotte, Getting out there is half the battle. The other half is being able to read the body. Sometimes doing less is more. I have faith you will figure it out.
Really enjoyed the video training for a marathon at the moment and was out doing long run in storm Isha as well so I know all about those gusts😅 love the videos 💪💪💪
thank you! it was a brutal one for sure! thankfully a much better weekend just gone!
I genuinely believe Charlotte is THE best running influencer.
you are very kind! thank you
I find it really interesting, different people have such different training plans this early on 4 hours on feet is too much i think. i was doing that in the latter stages of my training and concentrating on consistent half marathons as my long runs as a base build. also sounds like you need to prioritise some sleep with quite a few early mornings recently. this isn't meant as unwanted advice just as i see it. but just remember it's meant to be enjoyable never a chore to have to complete
Luckily I have a coach doing all of my programming and we've also debriefed after this one too :) some runs just are terrible, but hopefully you'll watch my next video going up this evening which is worlds apart from this one :)
Weirdly good to watch this kind of honest video, i really struggled the other night and only had a small run to do and wanted to jack it in on each mile but stuck with it and hopefully the next run will benefit from it
cheers! I have a new video going up this eve so I guess you'll see how my next long run[s] went.... great work with sticking with yours too!
You’ve had a draining few sessions, try not to beat yourself up over these runs.. no run is a bad run.. you still had time on feet. Should feel good for getting out there, on a miserable day, it’s ok to allow yourself to feel it. Hope the weather gods cheer up, I have an ultra down there in February 🤞🏼
thank you! oooo are you doing the TEC one?
@@CharlotteClarkeUK yeah, that’s the one. Done the half a few times and the marathon last year and thought.. might as well go the extra few miles and few hundred meters of ascent.. 🤷🏽♂️😂
I think it's great that you showed this type of run! Prep is all about digging deep. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. Hope the double run goes better for you ❤
Thank you! Let’s hope this weekend is better!
Being authentically you is important to see, along with the remaining 99% of ‘good runs’. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
I am still recovering from you driving to Snowdon and back and running up and down it twice, all in one day! Try not to be too hard on yourself - 4 hrs is still a great effort for a run that you could easily have skipped. Keep your chin up!
Aha that was a pretty big day huh!
You got this 💪👌😊. Trust the process
Thank you! I’m sure the next long ones will be better 🙌🏻
Honestly, this was SO tragic! Who else has had a bad run recently???
I had one Monday afternoon wind was so bad on sale fell it literally took the legs from underneath me I cut finished at 9 miles. I always run with my dog think even he was pleased 😂😂 today just kept to the road still strong wind. Thanks very much for your video much appreciated 👍👍
@@martinpenrice oh goodness! It’s savage out there at the moment isn’t it!
More often than i have good run days but at nearly 56 years old and still trying every time and still showing up .
@@CharlotteClarkeUKcertainly is Charlotte. I'm coming up 67 been running 51 years think age is catching up 😂😂 saying that it's lovely people like yourself that keep me motivated 👍👍
Thanks for the video - I’m doing UTS 50km and we are going to Snowdon in 2 weeks for our recce - up Watkin, down Pyg. see you in May!!
ooo fun! enjoy! hope you get some views unlike us haha
Welcome back Charlotte 😊 great to see you so motivated and energised by the new challenge! And hello Dave 👋
Doing the UTS50 this year second try after timing out at cp3 last year.. hopefully going to get the training better this year, at least one recce in, to get time on the trail.. but you 100k n 100 mile lot hats off to you.. it’s a tough course.. having said that.. I’m going to have keep talking myself out of the 100k when I get the 50 done.. so used to going to the next distance in a series.. but it’s a different beast of challenge.. and that’s after already doing a half, a marathon and an ultra on Snowdon over the passed few years.. UTS is the next level for accent. Good luck!
Thought id find this on youtube! You ran past us at about 8:30! Good to see other people out on a UTS recce!
ah no way! which distance are you doing? see you in May!
This looked so fun! Also the gradual plait deterioration was very relatable 😂 the bane of my life on long runs!
hahah that plait!
Great episode! Would love to see a video on how you got into trail running!
thank you! oooo great idea, I'll film that for sure!
