At FMBC, as the name states, we like to fabricate, make, build, and cook things. Instead of having multiple channels dedicated to each of the four categories we decided to combine them into one! At the beginning of each episode we'll call out what categories are being represented. That way if someone is only interested in metal fabrication they don't waste their time watching a cooking video (Not that it would be a waste of time!). Most videos will be hybrids incorporating more than one of the four categories. The goal is to pass on knowledge, learn as we go, inspire people to create, experiment with cooking, eat delicious food, and have fun along the way!

Another Air Compressor Offset Smoker Build!
This is an old 60-gallon air compressor tank that my friends asked me to turn into a smoker for them. It has 1/8" wall thickness and was in pretty rough shape. All around the build was fun and interesting. I wound up making a more square/rectangular door for the cook chamber due to extreme warping of the original door piece. I think it turned out great!

Building a Metal Patio Sign

This is a quick video showing how I built our patio sign at the brewery. We wanted a place where we could display our weekly specials and events going on in the taproom. This display is in a high traffic area since our patio is connected to one of the entrances of our neighboring building which has an ice cream shop in it (MN-Nice Cream).
DIY Offset Smoker Build Using an Old Air Compressor Tank
Просмотров 30 тыс.Год назад
I acquired an old 80-gallon air compressor tank from my work and decided to turn it into a smoker! The tank is roughly 3/16" thick. I made a simple frame using 2" square tubing and some 6" locking casters. The firebox is made with a V-Bottom to it which helps create and maintain a good coal bed. It has a roughly 1" air gap insulation around the bottoms and the sides. I really enjoy how this coo...

DIY Direct Heat Smoker Build! Mini Chud Box Replica!

I made a Mini Chud Box! Added some personal twists to Chud's BBQ design. This was made from leftover 3/16" HR pickled & oiled plate I had from the larger Chud Box I made in the last smoker video. This was a lot of fun and the thing cooks like a champ! A friend suggested I add trim to all the weld seams for a unique look and I'm really happy I did! I put some Smithfield's St. Louis style ribs on my pit in this video. Seasoned them with Killer Hogs AP seasoning and "The BBQ Rub" from Killer Hogs as well. Cooked them over some mesquite lump charcoal and hickory. Towards the end I wrapped the ribs with foil after adding brown sugar, butter, honey, and some Rufus Teague's whisky maple BBQ sauce. Man I’m sorry. Thought I saw all of the videos but nope. Great video and yes more cooking ones please.
I also like the spot tacks vs solid weld on the front! Makes it kind of stealthy looking!
You’re killing it dude! I built my vertical offset smoker for myself. The downside to making something too big is it takes forever to get the whole thing up to temperature at least a 250 deg. I love the smaller box you built! Awesome job my friend!
Awesome!!!! Where do I put my order in?????
Sweet will be doing the same similar design very good idea on the cooking grate
My name is Jerome, and I APPROVE! Subbed.
How much for this same basic build only a insulated bottom and actual fire drawers that pull out
How much can be this pc?? Looks good vertical smoker will become a trend in 2025
Great build. … where did you get the casters? How much weight do they hold?
@@MrMMcClean thanks. Got them on Amazon. Can’t remember exactly but they hold a lot. Just search on amazon for 6” swivel casters and they should pop up
I do mine in butter and lil olive oil.
Good job, good luck. Please what is the thickness of iron used in the oven?
@@nassimelaissaoui734 it’s 1/8” steel
@@fabmakebuildcook6274 Thank you so much
Just picked up a similar tank and I'd like to build an offset like this. I'm curious, did the thin wall of the tank create challenges for longer smokes? Also, any changes you'd make if you were to build this one again?
@@travissmith5986 good luck on your build! No issues with the thin wall tank yet. Would for sure go thicker wall if possible just for ease of work and longevity. But, if using an old tank you kind of work with what you got. My friends are happy with it and that’s what matters most
@fabmakebuildcook6274 thanks man, I appreciate your reply and all the great videos you post!
I'd like to make my own one day. The ones you can buy are so expensive you might as well build your own.
Yeah they can get pricey. I'd highly recommend building your own if you have the means to do so. You'll soon see that you are trading time for money as these things take a long time to build. Tedious for sure. But a labor of love.
ok, Love the build.. now I want one
Great work love your channel I have a question if you don't mind on your angle iron do you weld it all the way around it looks like you did? Thanks for sharing your work
@@huxmetalworks7371 thanks man. Yeah I weld it all the way around and grind it smooth. Takes some time but is a more professional look in my opinion.
@fabmakebuildcook6274 great work thanks for sharing your work keep it up
Where do you buy your metal? Can you recommend a source for the larger sheet?
@@MrEwilliams2 coremark metals in Minneapolis but any metal supplier should have the stuff you need to build something similar.
Definitely a good build idea in theory, the concept with the insulation makes sense in the arctic . I have to say he has treat skills and all the tools.. But the only MAJOR problem is the firebox needs a top entry to feed the fire! So
I can’t imagine what that weighs. Are there not less weight options such as aluminum? Pretty shallow as well I’d be worried about how easy it is to tip over
Where do you find/buy the cook chambers
@@ramirezbrian86 I have my metal supplier roll the plate/sheet into shape.
How did you support the sch 40 6" elbow to tack it in place?
@@metal75801 kind of a juggling act. One hand holding the elbow the other holding the mig gun. Put a tack on the top center to hold in place. Then straighten as needed and weld out
Turned out real nice! I built a small charcoal bbq outta an air tank and yup, totally disgusting inside as well! haha
@@smokeybeardco hahahaha! Yeah they kinda suck but at least it’s worth it in the long run. Thanks!
I’ve seen Allen form Allens welding / woodworking do doors like that. I’ve cut the opening out on the end of the chamber where the fire box is going to go and slid in, welded some straps in where the door is going to be, if you make some of the cuts and shine a light on the outside of the chamber you can see where the door will be, this really helps with the door springing when you make the final cuts but believe me it’s a very messy job with all the oil and grease that’s in there with it being a compressor tank, but well worth it in the end.
@@SD-rq2ob I’ll have to look back into Allen’s videos to see. I know he does octagon chambers that are similar but can’t remember a tank build. I did weld in some crappy braces on the inside of the door prior to cutting out but they were only small chunks of square tubing and not contoured to the inside radius at all. So only 6-points of contact. Rookie move on my part. You nailed it on the head with the messy job comment! Not fun. Thanks for the feedback!
@ no worries, love your channel, I’m watching the video for the second time 🤣🤣 great work and lovely welding 👍

ПОЧЕМУ ВТОРУЮ ПОЛКУ НЕ СДЕЛАЛ?
I rarely use a top shelf while cooking and the cook chamber is relatively short in height. not worth it in my opinion but I'm also bias towards no upper shelf :)
@@nickdubois8218 спасибо но при такой форме крышки я бы сделал вторую полноценную полку
Great lookin cooker. I love to build these things. I like to watch other builders such as yourself to get little tips and tricks. I'm building one now that's 3/8" and holy crap is this thing heavy. I probably won't have any blowouts, though. Great video, my friend. Keep building, and I'll keep watching.
@@4seasonsbbq I appreciate it! My next build is 3/8” thick as well. A trailer rig. Will be interesting for sure. Good luck on your build!
How did you make the cook chamber itself? Did you buy the metal rolled?
@@TheRobTuber yes I had my metal supplier roll the plate for me.
wow what size is the legs and bottom? love it

Badass cooker boss

Happy to see a new post. Do you remove the mill scale before seasoning any of your cookers
@@davek3726 no I leave it in there. Not a big deal
Can you make that but into a vertical smoker that's insulated and shipped to Ca?
This is what I want! Perfect size and allows for smoking or direct heat cooking.
Cool smoker! Can I ask, which welding pattern/technique do you follow for your vertical downhill welds? I find them super difficult as the puddle seems to get away from me.
I tend to angle the gun up a bit and continuously use a spiraling motion while traveling downwards. It keeps the arc at the front of the puddle for the bottom half of the spiral for decent penetration, and builds up the weld on the top half of the spiral. There’s probably better ways but this works for me and is relatively quick and uniform. Hope this helps!
@@fabmakebuildcook6274 Makes sense! I'll try that - thank you!
Great to see a new upload. Did I see a new mig welder in this build? I love the direct heat cooker. That's how I started cooking BBQ. Keep the great content coming!
Still using the miller 211 for mig work. There is a newer everlast 325ext tig welder though that I got for doing stainless and aluminum jobs. Both are pretty nice.
