    This was really sad. Ever since 2014, I've made it a tradition to go to Gatlinburg a few days before Christmas. It's like my 2nd home. So glad the community rebuilt and now 5 years later, it's pretty much back to normal. I'll be there Dec 21-24 this year.

    Just left there yesterday. You can see what forest burned. Still not as full as the rest of the forest in the area.

    It's crazy how much more would've been lost if the rain hadn't started when it did. It just boggles the mind how close it came to being so much worse.

    How hell was there no warning and such a late response by workers. Unacceptable

    • @GraingerProductions
      @GraingerProductions 4 года назад

      Yeah, there were voluntary evacuations issued earlier in the day, but just hours before some homes were affected. And again, they were optional I believe until late that evening.

      Local officials downplayed and covered up too much information. Hince the gag order placed due to "it was started by juveniles." I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I've seen, heard and read enough to know some of this could have been prevented.

      Forest fires are natural occurrences though. While this one was started by kids. If a forest is totally left untouched, eventually underbrush and other natural fuel will build up on the forest floor. A lightning strike starts a fire that clears out all that underbrush and fallen leaves, limbs etc.. It has to happen for forests to grow. Actually redwoods depend on fires to make them grow. A redwoods seed is in such a durable nut that it takes fire to burn it off for the seed to get to the ground.
