Speak No Evil (2024) | Movie Review | FFF 2024 | Micha's Breakdown
I'm an Ex-Mormon from Utah, so I absolutely loved this movie. Something really interesting, both Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East are also Ex-Mormon in real life.
It's such a huge dissapointment - some of the worst writing I've witnessed this year while also somehow having an overall cool/okay concept as an idea, failing miserably in execution... Just in the first few minutes - from bringing guns on your shoulder to the dinner after doing a heist, to for some reason walking with guns drawn in the cornfield when no one should be nearby anyway, to shooting the car then complaining that "they'll be back with someone who can shoot" - sure they will you dumbo when you shot their car now... Exposing how amateur and unprepared the writer was to actually write something like this, feels like it was written in a day or two with "oh this will do" moments fiilled inbetween the main ideas they thought will be cool, which sure some were cooll...
Oh the things I can tell you about this movie!
@@alissagalyean1843 Yeah, I was thinking about that while scripting it. I’m pretty sure this is a weird one for you.
I tried watching one episode and felt like I was watching a family make a movie in their backyard. It's terrible.
Yes, and on top of it, that family was also dysfunctional 😉
I just discovered this channel and all I can say is that you have been doing a great and constant job! Keep it up! Greetings from Colombia, Micha!
Greetings from Berlin 😊. Thank you, always happy to get feedback (especially positive 😁). Will keep the content coming.
it had a terrible writing with a bunch of plot holes and no clue how time travel works... shit just kept happening because of plot and not much logic whatsoever. the basic idea was good but man the writers sucked monkeyballs and lets not to mention the forced woke bullshittery.
While I am fine with wokeness, I totally agree on the bad writing and logical errors.
@MichasBreakdown i had no problem with interracial gay couples falling from the sky but anything beyond was unnecessary... they should have focused on the plotholes like how, when and which people arrived... civil war gold mayhaps? Also how come young Sam remembered what Riley told him at the beach, but somehow no memory of talking with Ty? It is one thing Gavin having his brain scrambled by this "mysteriuos biological coctail that somehow selectively erased memories", poorly enough, but Sam nor Scott not remembering hanging out with Ty? Bottle message through time worked well but why not just tell them "not to come here at this time because of reasons"? Also timeline should be linear and not paralell and not conviniently waiting out for plot to happen... I bet the writers were a bunch of young noobies not even seeing Back to the future...
Worst show i have ever seen.. couldn't even get through the first episode. It has alot of potential. But its storyline is super messy from the get go and lets not even start talking about the acting.. horrible.
Well, the overall acting didn't get better - and the scripts just became terrible. If you didn't even like the beginning, where there it still was bearable, it was a good decision to not further engage 😊.
Started first episode and turned it off. Cool idea, but the acting was abysmal, filled with bad CGI, I'd rather get a summary of the plot since it did seem like it could have been awesome.
While the CGI got better over time, at least a bit, the overall acting didn't evolve - and the scripts just became terrible. So it might be a wise decision to not further engage with the show, if you didn't even like the beginning - because there it still was bearable.
This show was terrible..surprised it went past 1 season
Overall, I agree, though the first season was still kinda watchable. But then ...
It was a crappy series. Bad acting. Terribly written. Hated Eve. Despised Levi. Angry that Gavin couldn't be stronger in ending his friendship with Levi for sleeping with his wife. Annoyed that Eve was selfish and cold-hearted. Eve pretends to be the victim in the love triangle. Poor family ties and relations among the Harrises. Izzy, Josh and Eve's sense of loyalty to Levi was beyond me. Many times, they disregarded Gavin's feelings for Levi. Eve was a B who wanted Levi above all, she didn't care about the many ways Gavin risked his life for her and their kids. Gavin regarded Eve and his kids always. Eve regarded her kids and Levi more. I wanted Gavin to wise up and say, you love him? Go be with him and walk away, concentrate on his kids and getting them out. Better women are out there, Gavin. The love between Eve and Gavin is like muddy water. It's lacks chemistry throughout.
I didn't even think of that, but agree with it. I guess the other story weaknesses kept me from even going there. Thanks for sharing.
Though now that you mentioned it - thinking back I do remember while watching it how it bothered me. How everyone treated Gavin and how how they all loved Levi. And above all the fact that no one believed Gavin and just called him crazy, basically pushing him into alcoholism. Thanks for the reminder.
@@MichasBreakdown 👍
Iqbal Achieve is named after Clem Fandango's actor, Shazad Latif, who's real name is Iqbal Amin.
That's some interesting trivia. Thanks for sharing 😊
@MichasBreakdown Sure thing.
La Brea means "The Tar," in Spanish.
That's right. Fitting name - but also fitting for the show, as the later seasons were drawing me under and even though I didn't like much of it, I was "trapped" and kept watching, after having invested so much time in it already 😅.
Agree 6/10. The movie is okay but the ending and the final message were great, it made me like the movie a bit more.
True, the ending saved the movie from being below average. I really wanted to like it more, though.
pro: a lot of action all the time. + good script + a lot of side story + can't not finsen watch it. con: moden audi-ence + woke-ness + girl-boss symptom + hot gar-bage + real b-ad CGI effe. can't not finsen watch it. made for the moden aud-ience. start like a real good show. you can't stop watching it. until you see all the con's. it is hot tr-ash at the end of the day.
I also thought it started out promising, but then things went downhill. For me, though, it was more about the story just being badly developed and then the acting followed suit.
Teaser got me curious, but after 10 mins of low quality CGI and woke/girlboss nonsense it appeared clearly it is a sh*t show... 30 minutes to understand the script is written by untalented woke writers, and the actors are low-grade. But you"re correct, 2.5/10 seems a very accurate mark. Even for the first episode.
I agree. It was utterly disappointing.
@@LaurentG-r8z I would give it one star. You're so kind. Lol.
What if the cultists were the good guys and the reason they were trying to kill Azrael is because their Priestess knew she was evil?
Interesting take. I still feel that since they were in league with the demon creatures, they were evil. Ironically, they were promoting their own demise doing so.
This seems to be almost as mishandled as Terra Nova was. For some reason, prehistoric related media just don't do too well when it comes to television. Outside of the acting, cast, and story that is my biggest disappointment with the show. Someone someday will make a good show related to prehistoric animals, but this is not that day.
I have heard good things about the animated Jurassic Park series. Might be worth a look.
She murders men. I know women hate men. I saw enough of her killing two men. Women can't be trusted.
I guess it is not your kind of show then. It surely isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for commenting.
I absolutely loved it to be honest.
Definitely a great watch.
The actress resembles Elisabeth Moss. The movie was intense. Psychologically scary. I had to pause the movie a lot to regroup😮
It for sure was an intense one. And true, she resembles her a lot.
I think her increasingly jagged appearance is a nice subtle way to indicate how much she has changed from her earlier niceness. The last smooth outfit she wore was that yellow dress which was a signal to the end of whatever was left of her sense of self before Arkham.
Interesting take. They seemed to have toned it down a bit in the 7th chapter, though. The finale will be intense 😊
The part about characters behaving abnormal is probably because they got sucked into the god damn dinosaur age. That would make me crazy too.
I guess that is part of it, agreed - but it doesn't cover all weird behaviour, at least in my book 😉
I think I’ll check out the books!
I think I will as well - in audiobook form, though 😊
Using your rating scale, it's a 4/10 for me on this one. The sound design is what saves this movie from being totally bad, but the way it ended didn't give much of a pay off. Enjoyed your review, subbed.
Thanks, happy that you liked the review. I guess I liked the concept of this movie more than what they made out of it, so I was a bit more forgiving with the rating - but I totally get your score. At least, you didn't regret watching it, as it was a 4/10 for you, meaning "fine to be watched once" 😉.
Just finished this movie it was so good but i didn't understand the ending how she didn't know him
I guess she just didn't recognize him looking that way - and as she wasn't aware of the whole situation, she couldn't even consider it to be him. At least that is my take on it 😊
I think she did know. He straight up told her to go back to her daughter (by name) She didn't respond in a way someone would if a creepy stranger knew that info
I don’t think Sophia will handle being left behind very well. She’s psychotic and already resentful and not getting a seat at the family table in the past.
Well, she will not - now that she knows even more than we expected her to know. I guess there is no talking himself out of that - except for saying they lied and he was playing them, but I guess she would never fall for that. So, yes, she will not handle it well 😉
I think Teen is Billy Kaplan who was possessed by Billy Maximoff. I think he will be looking for his brother and trying to understand his new powers. He always was giving Agatha the side-eye in WandaVision and I think he was more self aware than the other characters in the Hex.
Hmmm, as far as I remember, the name Kaplan was not used in WandaVision. I know, he is now credited this way in Wikipedia, but I think he is a new character, mainly because there was no possession going on with her kids in WandaVision. They, like Vision, were created by magic and vanished when the hex ended. In the comics, Kaplan is the reincarnation of her kid, so I guess this will be the explanation. We will likely learn about his story in the next chapter (in a few hours).
In some parts i felt like im watching martyrs mixed with trauma.
That is a good description, actually. Nice callout.
It was good. Great. I couldn’t leave it alone
Happy to hear you liked it. I guess it just ended up not being what I was looking for or hope that it would be.
Where can I see this ?
I watched it at a festival, but as far as I can see, it will be available on Blu-Ray in Sweden, Norway and so on in two weeks. With rights also held by StudioCanal, it should show up as Digital release as well soon. Hope this helps.
I didn't like Season 2 as much as 1 a lot of the episodes in season 1 were mob-related in origin but in season 2 issues involving church v medicine and society's views on polticians came front.
Oh, I didn't even noticed that. Nice catch. And a good reminder that I should keep watching the show. Had hit the pause button for a while now.
Thanks for the video
Happy that you liked it. And thanks for watching 🌞
No spoiler zone? 😢
Nope, but let me know what you want to know there - and I will send you a spoiler 😉
I like how Colin Farrell has been able to move past the “pretty boy” stage and bring the incredible talent that he has.
True, and it really helps the character, that you don't even see the actor when looking at him.
Thanks for your videos. I love the subtle humors
Thank you for saying that 🌞
LOL. Me neither. Love using Christian mythology for horror purposes though.
Thanks. That is true. Which reminds me: I might want to rewatch the "God's Army/The Prophecy" franchise 🤔
Do you know where one cousin watch this movie in America? I haven’t been able to find it on any streaming services, or for purchase as a DVD.
I watched it at a festival. So far I can only see it being available in France on Apple TV, with only French subtitles. If that works for you, check it out. If not, as they have it available digitally, I guess it should be showing up worldwide soon. Hope this helps.
Just saw it last night! 11/10 for me!
Happy that you enjoyed the movie. I also did - the end just didn't work for me.
I would guess that Agatha is also an unreliable narrator.
Let's wait and see. So far, I only think this may apply to the first episode, but who knows what lies ahead. So far, the show seems to revealed that in WandaVision she truly was the villain (which I doubted - thinking that as she is Wanda's mentor in the comics, maybe she was just testing her - or at least meant to do that in the beginning). My best guess, though: While she may get worse on the Witches' Road, at the end I believe she will have turned from the (kind of relatable) villain to an antihero - or maybe even a proper good person. Time will tell us soon.
The reason Sue goes for her old job is because she's still Elizabeth Sparkle; they are the same person, and she couldn't let go of the job that she once had. Also, despite her manager/producer being slimy, she was always wanting his approval and couldn't shy away from that. It's not just the industry that failed Elizabeth, but her own self hatred and self confidence issues too. I loved the ending but, yeah, it's definitely divisive and I can see why it didn't work for you. It worked for me only because, at a certain point in the second act (which I won't spoil), I started thinking 'but wait, what are the consequences of what you're doing?'. I really enjoyed your video!
Yes, I think there was a lot of ego involved for her to get that job back instead of aiming higher. By the way, the scene that bothered me was the one on stage close to the end, which was so cartoonishly exaggerated and didn't meet the tone the rest of the movie presented. It felt out of place, just to rub an additional message in. Happy, though, that it still worked fine for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am happy that you liked my review, even though you didn't agree with all of it. This is refreshing and absolutely the way conversations should be led. Thanks for that as well 🌞
@@MichasBreakdown Yeah I agree. Plus, it seemed that she took her old job back because that's what she's always known, and her slimy boss is who she seems to know the longest in her career, so it's a comfort thing. That's what I got from that anyway. Yeah, I Immediately thought it was that scene that bothered you. It did go to a level of camp, especially when some of the people stood up and started pointing and yelling at her (it was a weird tone), but I did like the scene. I think it worked for me coz it intertwined with the flashbacks from those talent judges saying all these criticisms. You hear them say stuff like 'she should have her boobs upto her face' or it was something similar to that and, well, the creature did. So she thought 'well, I finally meet the criteria of what they're expecting in terms of beauty'. But she now looks like...well, a creature. I can definitely see why you didn't like the scene, as it did reach a campy tone though. That's ok. And that's alright; I loved the film, but I definitely understand the criticisms of it too. And yeah, it's important to have nice conversations like this, especially with how social media discussions usually tend to go xD
Just started watching this series. Season 1 and 2 are awesome. It reminds me of tales from the crypt…more so the comics and not the hbo series. I feel this deserves more love
Happy that you like it. The first two seasons are pretty solid. I just rewatched my video from 3 years ago. My style changed a lot. Would I do it again today, I likely would try to be a bit less mean - though I would stand by the ratings I gave. I think, with a proper budget, that could have been a great show throughout its entire run - and not just solid for the first two seasons. Let me know once you caught up if you agree that the quality was declining with each season. I do hope, though, you will be able to enjoy it more than I did 😊
@@MichasBreakdown I’m watching the episodes a little out of order and agree the quality of the show does dip. Although, still very happy I found this. Considering how some of these stories were published in ec comics, and now knowing the first couple of seasons were done by hbo, it’s like I’m watching a prequel to Tales from the Crypt. I especially loved “there was an old woman.” If you took that episode, added some gore and curse words, it would fit perfect with TftC.
Yes, there were some solid ones in the beginning. After all that time it took me to get through them, I honestly don't remember much about that particular episode, though. I might rewatch that one. Thanks for sharing that detail.
Iam a big fan of labrea seriously when yall.s going too make new parts of labre for dis year 2024
Happy that you liked the show. Even though there are no new episodes, you can always rewatch it.
I don't really understand the purpose of a remake
I agree. There are rare exceptions, like Carpenter's The Thing, which was a great remake. But to be a remake that is worth our while, you really have to get a new angle and tell us something different.
Great video 👍
Thank you. Happy that you enjoyed it 👍
Do you prefer this remake or did you like the original better? Please feel free to share your thoughts!
What's your take on using Mickey Mouse as a horror character? Dumb gimmick or brilliant idea? And what do you think about his appearance in this movie?
Was Jennifer Coolidge's role your favorite in the first season or were you annoyed by that character's return?
This was a fantastic series I was sad to see it end.
Happy to hear you liked the show. It just wasn't my cup of tea. The good news: As it had a proper ending, you can rewatch it without getting frustrated by a cliffhanger ending.
Where you also distracted by the misleading set-up at the start of the season? Feel free to share your thoughts here.
Are obvious CGI effects a dealbreaker for you? Can you stomach subpar FX? For me, they truly throw me out of the action - and if they are so bad that they become laughable, I can't take the movie serious anymore. Feel free to share your thoughts!
Italian horror movies are not for me. I made the mistake of watching parts of cannibal holocaust as a kid, and I decided to never again explore that genre :D
I get your point about the cannibal movies from Italy in the late 70s and 80s. When I became a horror fan in the 80s, I still stayed away from those due to their reputation of being drastic. I still haven't watched them to this day, but for a different reason: Most of them contain animal snuff which I can't stand. The Italian zombie movies from that period also had a bad reputation, but over the last 2 decades, I watched many of them and some are pretty solid and other Italian horror stuff from that era are also very interesting and highly watchable. And I do love the Giallo genre, which is a bit of a mix of horror and thriller. Those you might like, too. "The Spider Labyrinth" had some Giallo elements, though I would not consider it one.
