Great analysis! Personally I understand why he couldn't sing live, his voice was pretty rough when he did turn his microphone on. The problem however is that for the History Tour, the contrast between the lip sync copy and his own voice was huge. And when they did turn the mic on, it was often weak, then turned up suddenly.

Great series! Quite shocked that in this series you haven't covered Thriller, but maybe it is part of your future plans. Bad - on the first leg, he performed the song in -1 key, and in the last chorus he still sings "there ain't no second chance against the thing with forty eyes". He wore a simple light-up jacket made by Bill Whitten, and in some concerts it's seen being tested at the beginning of the song. On the second leg, he performed it in -2 key, this time knowing all the right lyrics. The werecat is introduced to the live stage for the first time, and as Michael takes the mask off at the start of the song, he remains wearing the varsity jacket in the first half, and a new jacket made by Tompkins & Bush was introduced in the second half. Dangerous - Since this tour theyve now gone back to the original key and used playback. The werecat appears after the zombie dance, amd the song has also been significantly lengthened, ending with a disappearing act. Here "Michael" comes into a transparent coffin, while the zombies drape it in cloth. At the very end, they pull it off to reveal that the coffin and its content has disappeared. In some concerts, the timing is rather messy and he can be seen jumping off the stage at the last moment. This is also the last tour that has the door slamming sound effect ("You hear the door slam"). HIStory - A more elaborate "torture device" setup is used. "Michael" gets inside the coffin, which is covered in flammable material. The transformation to the werecat is a rather clever way to disguise the fact that it's already a stunt double taking over the stage.

Michael first playback performance is Smooth criminal 1988. Smooth criminal was a difficoult song to sing , for his dance. Michael Jackson sing it live vocal at 1988 Hartford performance and Pensacola 1988 and 1992 rehearsal , when he performed this song live he always have a microphone problem. In dangerous tour start to sing playback again smooth criminal , Jam , black or white and thriller and the way you make me feel playback . In HIstory tour he always use playback , only in his performance with his brother during the tour he sing live .

There’s a guy here on RUclips that interviewed the back up singers and dancers and they said he would a little bit when he needed to take a break when he had a real strong dance routine going on. that is very understandable. He always wanted to give the best performance.
