Using a vintage tapestry and some pre-loved trousers to create an up-cycled backpack!
I had this amazingly abstract tapestry that I wanted to turn into a backpack. I used some 'leftover legs' from trousers and other funky vintage fabrics.
I used my own pattern to make this bag, which I am planning to make into a PDF with video tutorial pronto!
Thanks for watching!

Reworking someone's childhood bag into something she can wear as an adult!

I have recently been tasked with reworking this bag that Cait made with her grandmother as a child. I love the idea of recreating this bag into something that she can start to enjoy again now. I did hit a few snags along the way, but I'm happy with how the bag turned out in the end.

My Drawstring bag tutorial. Here are all the measurements you will need to make this bag.( As I am clearly an airhead loon, I do seem to just say any old random number as I'm filming. So please use these measurements and ignore anything I say that differs to these!) Top Fabric - 37cm x 56cm Lining Fabric - 37cm x 38cm Straps 2 x 2m (4m in total) The eyelets that I demo'd in this vid are Prym 11...

@@Julie_sews_her_own_clothes thank you!!
Love the back pack❤ Also what is the model of your Juki please?
Can’t wait for the pattern and tutorial ❤❤ yes that came out brilliant 🤩
@@patriciaweekes2291 thanks!
Very cute! The color blocking ties in with the images on the needlepoint. Love it!
Ooo have you got a pattern for this?
Another winner
@@Kathleen-zn9oe thanks!!
I’ve just purchased this pattern cannot wait to make lots for Christmas presents and one for me too !!!
@@youlittlesewandsew7839 🥳 amazing! Let me know how it goes! 😊
😍 omg those are amazing!! I love "puppies" best
Woop Woop! Absolutely love the size and fabrics💛🧡💙💚
Excellent tutorial. Now I can get cracking on making my first trial bag!!! Hopefully I'll make a number of them as Chrissy presents. I want to try them in faux leather for which purpose I just bought the leather roller foot (Bernina). Thank you for your clear and easy to follow tutorial.
@@susanneberweck8796 ohh let me know how they go! You’re very welcome, thanks for watching! 😁
Hi Anna, I just wondered if you wouldn’t mind helping me with knowing what the best interfacing is to use just like most things there is so many different types and if you could recommend a good pair of scissors I’m looking to add to my Christmas list I saw the Kai 7000 which are probably fantastic but I nearly fainted at the price 😂 I didn’t even know scissors went up that high in price, I hope I don’t sound like a cheapskate 😅 just it leaves more money for fabric and patterns 😊 x
@@shayj4312 hiya, I know what you mean, I have infact just bought a massive roll of interfacing that is a bit too thin but I think It’ll take me years to use! The one I was using before was quite heavy weight and it made fabrics a bit too papery. I would recommend a medium weight one. And probably buy in small quantities till you find a good one! 🫠 I would really recommend fiskars scissors, I had ones with an orange handle and they were great! X
@@ParrotandParsnip-q9s that’s a great help, thank you! I was using some medium weight for little hand embroidery projects but felt it made them too stiff so at least I know not to get that particular one 😂 although the fabric I have for the bag is quite light weight so maybe in this instance that will do, I guess it’s just time to give it a go and hope for the best 🤞 x
Love the backpack. How much? X
@@GeorgiaHurley-e9r hi! Thanks so much! The backpack is sold I’m afraid, the only one left is the drawstring bag, it’s on my Etsy at the moment 👍
@ I’ll wait for another 😍
I looove that fabric!
That was brilliant, it will be loved. Love watching you, I look forward to your videos. Xxxx
@@patriciaweekes2291 thanks so much! 🥰
You could make a carpet bag styled book bag out of it! I like it it could be pretty!
@@faith5584 that is a great idea! 👍😁
Ew what’s wrong with your voice??
Great video and a great bag xx
@@handmadebyweezeanna thank you!!
I wouldn’t be too concerned with your video skills. Your content is so interesting and that’s the most important aspect. I am really enjoying following your creative journey and seeing your gorgeous bags. I’m onto my second slouch bag now so I’m definitely inspired. Weirdly, I’m making a cat bag but it’s no where near as spectacular as your custom bag. The straps are perfect ❤️😍
@@Julie_sews_her_own_clothes thanks so much, ohh I love that your into your second slouch bag! 🥰
Very pretty colors in the fabric.
Love the shape of the bag! Love your out-of-the-box ideas. I’m wondering if the cat is an owl? Maybe
Wait! I just saw the tail! It IS a cat!🤪

Well done Anna, you're so clever! I make Memory bears and it feels really weird cutting into someone else's things. I'm ok once I've made the 1st cut. I hope your customer loves your creation xx
@@gillianwoods8610 thank you!!
Thank you for being real this is what making is all about.... designing, re designing, cutting, sewing, and more unpicking. I had a day like that today in the sewing room. You did well the bag looks great and the pattern is a success.
@@AmandaBurton-g4t thanks, yeah that’s just how it goes sometimes 😂 all fun and games though!
It looks great . Well done !
@@katrinagray7733 thanks so much!!
I throughly enjoyed this video , it’s really great to see how you work through the challenges and you are a master of many trades you always pull it out the bag in the end! Personally, I really like the unpolished raw videos I think you’re doing a great job and it feels like I’m sitting in the craft room with you while you tell me all about your mishaps that we can all relate to, it highlights real life situations! Look forward to the next one but please don’t feel pressured 😊 x
@@shayj4312 thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! 🥰
Somedays the sewing gods are not with you. Great bag nevertheless.
@@debhulks yep some days they are not! 😂 thanks!

@@ParrotandParsnip-q9s just brightened up my day yay 🙌, looking forward to it x
I borrowed my sister's bumbag and it was super handy so bought a tiny bag that just fits my phone, small purse and small book
@@bertiesgirl1 yes I think small bags are the way forward too!
The hexies are English paper piecing. You cut out the hexagon around the cardboard/paper, glue it down and then hand sew the hexies together :-)
I almost bought the bestie bag pattern but hesitated as they were a bit bigger than what I wanted. This is exactly the size I’d use so I’ve bought it. 😍 I now have 3 different style bags lined up for my Christmas holiday project 🥳😁
Me too I nearly bought the bestie bag and watched someone tell me about this pattern in a tutorial about a gift for November so so pleased they did as this is just the perfect pattern
Your back packs are stunning! I’m definitely getting more interested in bag making and storing bits to have a good Christmas bag fest. So pleased you decided to start a RUclips channel and share your experience & ideas. ❤
I definitely will be trying Overlocker unpicking this way next time… give it 10 mins 🤣🤣
