Hi Simon , would you share with me how and where you got your ground sheet materials from ?
I got it from a local material shop and it was ballistic nylon waterproof coated. Then I got an awful lot a cardboard and put the baby on top and pegged it out and then traced round the shape of the bivvy and cut it out. Remember to leave half an inch border around it for folding and stitching. 😁😁👍🏼👍🏼 I hope this helps.
@@simonlongman4509 thanks mate I’ve just brought a T1 mk2 so I need a ground sheet now lol
Got this pod myself although they did change it slightly. I think the idea of marking the extending parts is a great idea as its very easy to think you have done them all the same and if they're not quite right the pod ends up twisted. Shame they didn't have a stopper really instead of letting the inserts pull straight out, would have made setup much easier.
It has been a while Simon, I'm glad you have given an update. A lot of hgv drivers give it up and I did too. The start time, end time. Hours worked. No work/home balance. Abuse from various people. Sitting in a hgv vehicle and being responsible for the truck but at the same time stopping you money for breaks. The night out allowance was pitiful. There are just too many barriers to be happy driving a truck. The hourly rate, can also be a piss take!
I only drive part time now and only on motorsport, everything you said is spot on.its no life
I quit HGV driving and got a job in a yard. It doesnt pay very well, so Im thinking of going back to it, but via an agency 4 days a week. How are you getting more money in driving a van?
Please do have a look around and you will find certain van driving jobs pay a lot more money than HGV. I couldn't believe it when I actually found it but it was the last place I thought that I would get decent money.
Borrowed Time- CORRECT. Well done Simon.
Good decision. Awful way to live. Shifts, monotony, health destroyed, British infrastructure, social life wrecked. Unemployment better. Good luck.
Thanks buddy it was a hard and tough decision to make when you love driving so much. But unfortunately when you drive a HGV for a living they think you have no life. I will always say the same thing change the industry and things will get better. 😁😁👍🏼👍🏼
@@simonlongman4509You sound switched on. The extra things you can do sound really positive. Sounds like you have some transferable skills. I'm mid 50s but not giving up- people will want you. Will never beat Deady.....
tell me it will fit 12ft rods. ? Or will it be small?
I got my class 1 license in 2017 at aged 21. I've worked for every company in the north east and north yorkshire. Every company are the same, shit treat like dog shit. 15 hours per day 5 days a week. There's a reason why every tramping is divorced. The job is not worth the stress, you're up against other road users, shitty little yards, security guards, you're own office staff aka the planners, vosa. Stay away.... ohh and the wages are just above minimum wage
The general populace is ignorant as demonstrated here. The problems end tomorrow if you use nuclear. The safest form of energy. Ask yourself why they don't do this and you have your answer.
As an ex hgv driver who's worked for several companies who utilise in cab cameras, I see no problem with it. If you're driving properly, you've got nothing to worry about. It's also reassuring to know that an incident will usually be caught on camera & provide proof that you weren't at fault 🤷🏻♂️
are they 9in sticks?
Nice hearing from you Simon, like you said not enough infrastructure for electric vehicles personally i don't think there ever will this government is useless in everything they do,im definitely not buying an electric car tbh i can't afford one lol,my next car will be hybrid
Thanks Steve and yes I don't think anybody will be able to afford their own car in the future they'll all be rentals. That's what the government wants to track your vehicle everywhere you go so they know everything about you.
Don’t trust the government ever Simon.
dont think electric is the answer wont hydrogen be way better no batterys and properly can use the existing fuel stations and you get out the back end is water rite?
Definitely not my good freind. Hope your good & well Simon. Another ripper of a seminar buddy. Forever your friend. Kind regards. Glyn
Great to see you back Simon, looking forward to many more of your videos, just like to wish you happy new year 🥂
Thanks Steve and all the best to you 🍻🍻 it's always good to come back and hear from everybody and what they have been up to. But on another note let's see what this year brings 😁👍
Yes hopefully 2023 will be a lot better 🤞lol
Don’t know if you have noticed Simon there seems to be lots more hgv learners on the road. Let’s see how long they last in the real world if they pass.
Hi John hope you're ok and had a wonderful time over the festive period. It's good to be back I've just had an awful lot on my plate at the minute but getting things sorted. I too have noticed a lot of new learner drivers on the road taking lessons but yes let's see how long they last when they get fed the bull s*** that we've had for many years 😉😉👌👌
@@simonlongman4509 totally agreed Simon. Reverse has been taken out the test now I got told it’s the biggest part of the job the whole thing stinks. And driving a truck is still rubbish I haven’t been near one in 2 years.

Came across your channel via a fellow same day owner operator van driver and you tuber. Excellent stuff keep them comming
Just don’t get me started on the CPC - that IS a bucket of irrelevant shite!
I am currently doing my HGV class 1, and although it is said that you go straight for class one in actual fact you don't! You still go through HGV2 first and pass that test first, it's just that you don't have to wait for a year or what ever it was, before going to the next level. I will be doing my class one a couple of weeks after my class 2, but I could do it the next week. So I'm sorry but I'm all for it. It's all down to the training. After all, if we only had artics and no rigids because rigids were considered too cumbersome then we would be going straight to artics anyway, It's only your perception that driving an artic is a step up from driving a rigid and so should be done in order but providing you have good training it really doesn't make nay difference. You could take someone who has never driven anything and teach them to go straight to driving an artic so long as the training is good. Also, in some ways, having driven a rigid first can get in the way because you have to unlearn a load of stuff that is not applicable to an artic. Imagine it the other way around, don't you think it would be just as difficult for someone who has only ever driven artics to then drive a 30 foot rigid? of course it would, everything would be different and in some ways harder to get a rigid through bends an tight spots especially if they're used to driving a small artic and then drive the biggest rigid, so it's all relative to what you're used to and what training you have.
Whoever you're going with is telling you absolute rubbish. When the law changed in 1997 you then had to do Class 2 first but there was never any minimum wait time to then go to Class 1 in the UK. This clearly made a mockery of why you needed Class 2 first if you didn't need to gain any experience whatsoever before progressing to Class 1. Since late last year, you can absolutely now go straight to Class 1, just as it was before 1997. Unfortunately mate, you've found one of the dozens and dozens of HGV driving schools that still aren't prepared to accept the new changes so are effectively miss selling their training courses (which is a consumer offence) by giving you false information about still having to do Class 2 first. May I suggest that you ask them to put it in writing regarding allegedly having to do Class 2 first. I think I already know what their response will be.
No actually it turns out I made a mistake. When I booked to do my training they asked if I wanted to do it all in one hit or split in two. I thought splitting it in two seemed a good idea as my boss might not be keen on me taking longer off work. But I didn’t understand that he was offering me to do the class 2 first as I’m more likely to get a job in a class 2 than going straight to a class one as a lot of companies won’t employ drivers who have no previous experience and have gone straight to class one. So that was a bit of a misunderstanding that I only just got straightened out today. That said, my other comment regarding it’s all about the training and the specific vehicle has been highlighted by the fact that even the instructors there said to me that really their companies artic is really too small and too easy for training and is easier to get around a town in than their rigid, it’s actually a challenge to hit a curb in it. Anyway, it was never my intention to get into an argument about whether the new rules are a good thing or not but just to look at it from another view point. Is it really that bad that drivers can go straight to class 1. Are there really going to be loads of accidents as a result? After all it’s not as if they’ve made the test easier, that is just as hard and strict, so maybe there will just be a higher failure rate and retakes, I guess only time will tell. Both the instructors at the driving school have been driving lorries since they were kids and both said there isn’t really a great advantage in doing class 2 first because what they see happen is they pick up a lot of bad habits, develope their own style of driving which they then have to unlearn when they come back to do class 1. So as I understand it there are pros and cons and not enough negatives to worry about. Cheers Guy
Just because you might have to do Class 2 driving for a while after you've passed your test doesn't mean that drivers should waste their money by first doing Class 2 training and test. Go straight to Class 1 (which also covers you for all lower categories) and then you will already have it in your pocket whenever you or your employer are ready for you to start driving Class 1. I can also guarantee that the company who says that they want 6 months or a year of Class 1 experience will just as quickly throw that rule out of the window when they have a loaded trailer to move and only a newly qualified driver available. The splitting of the tests (and I'm not talking between Class 2 and Class 1 but the splitting of the actual test itself) was actually a new thing which also became law late last year. You now take the reverse part of the test with the training school (rather than the examiner) and this can be done up to 6 months before you then take the on road part of the test with the examiner. This was a great new initiative by the government (although many don't fully appreciate what is now being offered) and I would advise all new drivers to utilize this opportunity. Do the reverse exercise training & test and get it done and dusted and out of the way, then come back refreshed a few days or a few weeks later for the on road training & test rather than lumping it altogether as it always was prior to November 2021 and as many training schools are still structuring their training courses. WHY? If you lump them both together and then fail the Reverse Exercise test, your On road test is automatically cancelled. If you separate them, by a few days or a few weeks (as you are now allowed to do) then you will have already passed the Reverse Exercise test by the time you turn up for the On Road training and test at a later date. You don't even need to do the On Road training & test with the same training school, you could choose a different company if you wanted. Therefore, as for your comment that "its not as if they've made the test any easier" Well, they definitely did make it easier by splitting the reverse exercise in to a separate test from November 2021, but that can only be a good thing if new drivers and training schools actually used the opportunity now being offered to them to their best advantage. Since 2014, you can also take your test with an Automatic truck (as most now do) yet still receive a full manual licence (as long as you hold a manual car licence). So again, the actual practical HGV test (Class 1 or Class 2) has never been easier. Now that's not saying that new drivers don't have the additional CPC crap to deal with.
I heard that DVLA are thinking of giving the right for car drivers to drive 7.5 tonne lorrys. I really hope this happens I would love to be on the road just need to pass that cpc. But now I'm thinking is it a good Idea to get out of the NHS.
Do these come with a groundsheet mate?
Out of all the bivvies you've had, which is the best? I'm looking for a new bivvy as my 2 man advanta protector peak bivvy i just bought broke today on the very first set up lol (well it happened on the take down), I can't believe it, the piece of shit ha ha, the elastic snapped in one of the support poles and there's only 2 poles to start with ffs. Brand new out the box ppffft ...Advanta now get the thumbs down from me 🤣
Sorry to hear about your bivvy Danny 🤬🤬🤬. The bivvy I would choose is the new Titan hide I don't own the new one but I have the old one and it is an absolutely smashing little bivvy.😁😁👍👍
@@simonlongman4509 the only prob with the hide is it has no front door, I'm allergic to mozzie bites lol and look like the elephant man after only one bite 😆
I'm looking for a new bivvy, I've read a few comments online about gnats / bugs getting through the bivvy front door mesh when the door is zipped closed? Is the bivvy door insect mesh that bad? Have you found this to happen at all? I don't like ground mats so i cant use the inner mesh capsule as i believe it has the ground sheet permanently attached doesn't it? How is your bivvy doing now after 4 years? Thanks
Job not worth a carrot now
Where's the blog about your new truck???
Hold your horses it's on its way 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t understand why drivers moan so much about the industry yet continue to stay in the industry Yes the pay could be better but it beats sitting in an office all day And before you ask I have been a class 1 driver for 33 years I spent the first ten years on flat beds roping and sheeting Now we have curtain siders and box trailers how easy is that You will find that most long time drivers will tell you it’s in your blood I did leave the industry for a while but I missed it enough to be drawn back into it again
Hi buddy hope you're ok. Just a quick reply to your question as to why drivers moan all the time. If you watch my vlogs from the beginning I am pointing out to new drivers don't take the s*** from the crap companies. The only way we are going to make the industry better is if we all stand together for a better work life balance all around and that means helping out them that are in s*** jobs. I'm also pleased to say that I am very happy in my job to but it took a long time getting there. Love the comments buddy keep them coming 😁👍.
Great video. Would I be right in saying that if I wanted to use some 2 rod buzz bars I could do that because you can just close the arms of the pod in tighter?

Simon for me truck-driving is not really that stressful yes there are things that can stress us out, you mentioned one or two, but to call it a stressful job is not right. It might be more stressful than working in a factory but that's about it. Nor is it generally a physically hard job. I sometimes have to handball off heavy stuff for an hour but then I'm sat on me ar$e again rolling down the road. I've done stressful work and didn't take to it - why? Too bloody stressful. And I've done hard manual graft, and guess what? Too hard work for the pay. Trucking suits me fine, just my 2p..! Keep the vlogs up mate!
All the guy does is moan
I only passed my rigid licence this April just gone, since then I was offered a beautiful scania but 4 nights out a week, then I was offered fridge work 5am until 6pm but no nights out but a lot of handball, then I've recently left a company where it was all tailift and pump truck shit also the wagons was 13 or 14 years old renaults All manual. Expected to rush around break your back daily for £100a day on that. I'm now waiting for the right company if not I'll go back to driving a forklift because Im not being shit on
This is not a stressful job it’s just not. If you think it’s stressful then you have a low stress threshold. It’s a piece of piss this job I don’t know why everyone tries to make out it’s the hardest job in the world. Time away from home can be crap. But that’s not the same as stressful.
And you've been HGV driving how long 🤔🤔🤔
5 years
@@tommhurst1997 please give it time Thomas because when you have a family and they are robbing valuable time of and memories of your child growing up which money cannot buy back because the load you're carrying is more important even though you have arranged time off 🤔🤔 and you start to see a lot of things go wrong and could be done better that's when things start to nibble away at you. There's millions more things I could say about it but I'm not here to put a downer on it and I am a very calm and collective person with a wide open mind you have to be nowadays. Just watching your vlog after a 12hr shift with 8.57hrs driving finishing at 0700 this morning before a little rest before being back in the cab again tonight at 1900! Question...many other jobs based on 60hr working week to earn not as much as many others doing 37hrs a week?
As I've always said if you don't mind permanent time away from your family then HGV driving is the job for you but if you want to spend time with your family then HGV driving is not for you. HGV driving is the only job I know where over time is demanded off you and not asked if you want to do it because there is another load to do🤣🤣.
