1961: Refs give ND an extra play and they kick a field goal to win 15-17, (SU score is always first). 1969: Penn State had nation's longest winning streak. We are up 14-0 and get stuffed at the goal line just before the half. We fumble deep in our territory to give up a touchdown, then fumble the kick-off. A two-point try is no good - refs throw a flag. They get a second chance and make it. 14-15. 1985: We are running out the clock, up 20-17 after 14 straight losses. A fumble, two long passes, we lose 20-24. 1/1/88: Coach Mac and tie Dye. 16-16 1992: Chris Gedney gets tackled at the 4 by a Miami guy who wasn't supposed to be there. 10-16. 1994: We go up on Oklahoma 29-23. Kevin Johnson, (redshirting) dances onto the field. We kickoff from the 20 and lose 29-30. 1997 NC State. We are setting up for the winning field goal. Freshman Dee Brown decides to be a hero and stick the ball over the goal line. 31-32 in OT. 1998: We have eventual national champion Tennessee beat. A guy 30 yards away throws a flag. Interference. We lose 33-34. (Steve Hyder's post-game diatribe is the stuff of legends.) 2018: We lose to Clemson in the last minute and to Pitt in OT. Could have been 11-1! But the high points have out-numbered the low points over the years - barely. I started following the team in 1961 and we are 376-347-6 since then.

First, great shirt Bent. It looks like an X-ray. I call what is going on the college football rapture, where the most successful football schools and the ones located in the biggest TV markets want to 'leave behind' the schools they been saddled playing against and share the big bucks with to create a sort of mini-NFL and just split the money up for themselves. The problem is, the big markets are dominated by pro sports and the football factories are used to going 10-2 in a bad years. Now a bad year might be 4-8 or worse. The lifeblood of college sports is that it represents the smaller markets with no pro sports and untied them and it takes advantage of natural geographical rivalries. The 'left behind' schools might be able o re-create that and play in conferences they could actually win for a national championship they could actually win. the 'left behind' might prosper while the 'raptured' might struggle. And the other sports would be in conferences that make more sense for them, (why does each team from a school have to be in the same conference, anyway?). And the northeast might have a conference representing them again.
