AT THE BALLET "RHYTHM PERFECT" - Heath Saunders
in which i maybe have a minor mental breakdown
and attempt to sing a popular song "EXACTLY" AS "TRANSCRIBED"
look, the fact is i have no friends who i feel i can exploit in the way i would have needed to exploit them for this VERY SPECIFIC TASK of singing a trio with me.
also, like 6 hours of editing went into making that Mortal Kombat character select screen, so y'all better appreciate.
do not sue me, as i don't own any of the music here, except the background music that i produced.
special thanks to Shelley Duvall.

in which i casually scream belt and attempt to sing a popular song "EXACTLY" AS "TRANSCRIBED" this song is very high, and that's basically all i have to say about that. hearing it "rhythm perfect" is...not particularly different, but i was WAY too far into working on it when i really realized that, so we went with it anyway. also, i make one clear mistake in this take, but i couldn't sing this ...

in which i do a fake tedtalk about stephen sondheim and attempt to sing a popular song "EXACTLY" as "TRANSCRIBED" in the case of Being Alive, the original broadway cast performance by Dean Jones is actually rhythmically extremely accurate but basically every version that's been done since then takes some liberties with the written rhythms. I love the energy and passion like it should be done, but you aren't using the right technique to nail those high notes, unless you are intentionally trying to shred your voice and pass out. I find it surprising you did a run in Chicago based on this video, so maybe this was just an off night.

You get a virtual high 5 for that! I didn't know it was possible for a male to pull that song off. Bravo. I am no vocalist by any means, but I think I cracked the code on the "feels like something is missing" effect from every rendition. However, not being a singer I haven't been able to test my theory but am sharing since you are obviously an E.G. fan as well. On the clean "S"'s if you make your tongue feel like it is too big for your mouth, and move the lispy "S"s back further to the middle of your tongue instead of the tip, Almost like she is firmly pushing the tip of her tongue against her bottom teeth the entire time she is in the nasal "cutesy" voice. If this analysis is correct please let me know. Once again, good job. The other banter in the video was entertaining as well, thumbs up.

hearing you sing Recit De Cassard from The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg would be a salve in this otherwise fucking dreary year also, i'm sure there's stuff to talk about - recitative, translation, musical theatre vs operetta, the version sinatra did as Watch What Happens that lyrically ignores the wistfulness of the music

Hi Heath! My name is Katie- and I am a fellow actor who has been hustling for work to fill my time as the extension of Broadway looms further and further away. I have taken now to teaching Music Theory lessons for fellow actors and students at the University I graduated at to help increase a love and understanding for the language of music. Your videos have always made my week and now they will make my students weeks as I use your videos as examples of specific terms and especially when working with the hardest part to teach actors- RHYTHM! Although I am sad you are going to once every two weeks- I will always keep the song in mind "You're only a day away" :)

I really enjoyed the example of BP backphrasing vs as written. As a lover of musical theater who isn't trained in it, I would love to see more side by sides! Even just of the whole "Rythmically Perfect" idea. It can be hard without a direct comparison to exactly see what's different.
