The project I'm working on are all the sets of the Shining.
And lately started to reconstruct the Elstree Studios around 1980 from old photos and videos.
At the same time trying to fit the already existing sets into the stages, workshops and offices.
Smaller projects include the AIC briefing room in Sicario and the barracks in Full Metal Jacket.
Working on, but not yet published, Bill and Alice's impossible bedroom in Eyes Wide Shut.
In addition, the drawings by Jörg Müller - "The Changing City" to be built in 3D.

==PAUSE THE VIDEO AND LOOK AROUND==
Set the screen to Full Screen and to the highest resolution (4K). Then you can zoom in.
This is a panoramic clip of the living in the Caretakers Living Apartment.
The Living changes constantly for each scene.
The first scene is of course the tour that Stuart Ullman gives to Jack and Wendy. The breakfast scene. Danny on Jack's lap. And Wendy with the baseball bat looking for Jack.
These scenes are all in 'daylight'.
The scenes of Wendy pacing. Jack's return from Room 237 and the famous axe scene with Jack. These are all at night.
After studying these scenes, there appear to be continuous changes of books, toys, lamps, newspapers, magazines and other items.

The Shining - Behind the scenes 1 - PANORAMIC
Vivian Kubrick said in the commentary of ‘Making of The Shining’ that they kept the chandeliers off in the lobby when they weren’t filming because they generated a lot of heat. The lounge set eventually caught fire because of the heat from the window lights.
As much as a perfectionist as Stanley Kubrick was, I’m surprised he allowed obvious goofs to go unnoticed: the window in Ullman’s office, which is impossible because of the elevators to the right of his office. Two light switches are shown on the wall going into Ullman’s office when Jack removes the batteries from the radio. When he enters his office for his interview, the switches are not there. Same with the ballroom. When Jack enters the empty ballroom by himself to have a drink, he turns on the light switches that on the wall to the left of the door. When he enters later during the ball, the switches are no longer present. Then there’s the bathroom door. Jack chops one rectangular sized hold in the door before he says, “Heeeere’s Johnny!” When Wendy and Jack here Halloran driving to the hotel, there are clearly two large holes in the door
I don’t think the hallway at 4:08 is the same one behind Ullman’s office. There appears to be what looks like a red tapestry on the left wall with a chair underneath it. The hallway behind Ullman’s office has a green tapestry on the wall facing the lobby and a table underneath it with a driftwood piece of artwork on it
I wonder what happened to all the thousands of gold tiles from this set? Being able to buy and own just one would be so cool!
Hey I have a good idea that you could maybe do. Perhaps in the room 237 hall you could arrange room 237 in a way that it is aligned with the door in a straight line and not heading to the left side which is unrealistic, I know it’s not like that in the movie but it could be a good idea and after you have aligned it in a straight line maybe you can add even more 237 rooms to the other doors that way you have lots of room for even more rooms, hope this made sense 😂
Happy there was no jumpscare 😂
Hello deltabuilder. Roblox has the Overlook Hotel game. It's one of the best games about The Shining I've seen, maybe the best. I saw that you helped make the textures for the game. Congratulations. Regarding the layout of the hotel in the game, how did the creators manage to connect the hotel rooms? Is there an official layout?
I love the videos and what you did, and i'm also trying to recreate the whole hotel in blender but it's very tricky, is it possible for you to upload the whole thing on sketchfab or something like that (whitout having to make it public) just to get the dimentions and floor plan. Kind regards
Awesome!! What did you use to draw this?
SketchUp for drawing and V-ray for rendering.
that movement its so amazing. because it connect with the awesome and revelating freeze frame in 00:03:24 to 00:03:26 the camera spectre or the most intriging ghost-machine of the movie. The conection with 2001, a space odissey and with the future films. To resume, the portrait of the crime.
Great video, keep up the good work.
Thanks Robert, I will.
LOVE THIS VIDEO! I REALY LOVE TO DISCOVER THE LAMPS SISTYM AND THE ROSCO DIFFUSOR. HOW IT WAS IN THE END AND HOW IT LOOKS IN THE MOVIE.
Thanks Juan, Stanley used those Rosco screens a lot. Also in The Lobby, the Boulder apartment, Forest Service Station and Caretakers Apartment. Also in the barracks of Full Metal Jacket.
Love the worn rug texture
in Stage 4 was Emperor's Throne Room (Star Wars Return of the Jedi)
Thanks again!
This is great. Do the glass doors by the bed lead anywhere?
No, it doesn't lead anywhere. It's supposed to be a closet. Just like in the hallway and Danny's bedroom.
I think the fridge gets a prominent spot because it is a comment on what is going to happen to Jack.
I never looked at it that way before. It's a Westinghouse Refrigerator Model B-7-42. Or B-7-46, I'm not sure.
In The Shining, Kubrick makes us think that the Colorado Lounge is above the Lobby, and we can see through the windows that it is on the ground floor. I'm talking specifically about the tour scene, Ullman, Bill, Jack and Wendy exit the elevator upon entering Colorado Hall, but we can see trees and a stone wall outside. Why does this happen? Great recreation!
Thanks Matheus, I have the same idea that the Colorado Lounge is above the Lobby. Because of the trees outside the Colorado Lounge it seems like only the tops are visible. Why does this happen? I don't understand what you mean.
I wanted to say why Kubrick did this to viewers, disorienting them. There is a possibility that the lobby stairs are connected to the Colorado Lounge stairs, but the lounge stairs only lead to the upper floors, not the ground floor.
Nice recreation! Love the bear detail. Is the Tv supposed to be on the floor?
Thanks Estelle, The TV does not belong on the floor, but on a kind of coffee table. The table was not ready yet. The TV was just put on the floor.
Nice. 😊
Thanks! 😊
I love the bat and the overexposed windows. Great detail!
Thanks MP, I drew the bat according to the official measurements and it seems to match the size of the couch pretty well. In The Shining we never get a direct view of the windows during the day scenes. Probably a small setup like in the Lobby, also with a Rosco screen.
I think the whole hotel pulls together all these crazy patterns but stays classy. That is hard to do. I have a reoccurring dream about a room like this. Its dusty in the dream. Do the Torrances have to keep the rooms dusted?
Hi Jessica, As you can see from Stuart Ullman's tour, everything is thoroughly cleaned on closing day. In the Colorado Lounge and Goldroom, people can be seen vacuuming and cleaning. So if the hotel doors remain closed, there is no need to keep the rooms dusted.
Fashionable. It's the 1970s when the hotel was last updated. It's groovy. Where did they get these rug patterns?
I drew them in Corel. There are some patterns at www.deviantart.com/deltabuilder/gallery/71893867/textures
Love the art! So cool.
Thank you
Hello deltabuilder. A question arose about The Shining: In the chapter "Wednesday", Jack wears a blue plaid shirt, a red jacket, and jeans. In the chapter "8am", in a brief scene, Jack is typing in the lounge wearing a different outfit, a dark green blouse and jeans. Later, Wendy enters the room with the baseball bat, Jack appears, but he goes back to wearing his "Wednesday" outfit. There is a fan theory about the existence of two Jacks: the writer and the character, but I don't believe in these theories. Could he have gone back to his apartment and changed his clothes? Or did Kubrick want to reuse footage of Jack typing?
Hi Matheus, I'm not a Shining analyst. I know a little about building theater sets, that's all. There's a video about the 'two Jacks' that you probably already know. ruclips.net/video/6DCxBWAI_Bw/видео.html
@@deltabuilderIn my opinion, Jack changed his clothes, typed, and then wanted to change his clothes again to “correct” Wendy. He may have entered the apartment while Wendy and Danny were not there and grabbed the clothes. Great work deltabuilder, it's fascinating. It's as if it were the hotel itself. Congratulations! The Shining is probably my favorite movie. Have you seen the interiors of the hotel from the 1997 miniseries directed by Mick Garris?
Updating the Sims hotel now! Lol. Thanks. Those details are everything!
What is the giant art piece in the middle of the room? I never noticed that.
I think you mean the piece of driftwood on the center table in The Colorado Lounge. The funny thing is that driftwood is mostly found on the coast and not in the mountains. So it has come quite a long way. There is a similar piece of driftwood on a side table in the Lobby near the elevator. It is under the green tapestry.
@deltabuilder nature is the best artist! I love it!
The whole hotel itself would be one massive game room, when you stop and think about it. That depends if you find getting possessed by malevolent spirits to be considered "fun"
Its like the rooms at the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey
I would have a great room like that one if I had a room like that I have a computer a massage chair and a nice big master bedroom.
This room always gives me the creeps. Especially the old creepy-looking scary lady coming out of the bathtub.
Always gives me the chills!
I am the gal that did the Simming. Is this "unreal engine"?
I know, Jessica. No, this is not Unreal Engine. I did some testing with version 5. But it boils down to rebuilding everything, except for some textures. All drawings were made with Sketchup and V-ray, since 2003.
Cheery and groovy!
I know that has to mean something in this film! lol.
i was wondering if it would be okay to use a few of your lovely renders as set pieces in a short non commercial little animation i’m putting together for my buddies for halloween? with due accreditation of course
That's no problem, 4AMChannel. if you go to my website (link is in the channel description), you can download watermark free renders there. On the DeviantArt website you can find some more textures and posters. A mention would be very much appreciated.
Steve and Daryl crime family stole it.
Really? I thought she only operated in the US.
Great work. The lightbul near the entrance door (above the stairs) exists in some scenes while it does not exist in other scenes. Kubrick did it intentionally. Also, since there are stairs there, the level of the Caretakers appartment is above level of the corridor. This makes the door that go from corridor to the caretaker's appartment living room/bedroom (the one Ullman and Torrances pass by before entering appartment through next/this door) illogical/ impossible. I believe that Kubrick did this to disorient us spatially in addition to disorienting us chronologically.
You're spot on with the light fixture, Boxy. This is only visible when it's evening/night. Stanley had a preference for practical light. Because the ceiling is visible, he had to use a light fixture. According to DP John Alcott, 1000 Watt FEP halogen lamps were used that were dimmable. The door in the bedroom, which leads to the hallway, is 'impossible' because it is at a lower level. There is a production photo where it is open. It is possible that a recess was made in the floor of the bedroom, but it is difficult to see in the photo.
Thanks. I really enjoy these.
I'm glad you like them.
Thanks.
You're welcome, Richard!
@@deltabuilder it's been sometime I reviewed the hallway in the servents room. I dont remember the air vent on the ceiling. I know the ceiling lamps change (they are not there and then they are there.)
If you want to see the air vent, watch the scene where Ullman shows the Torances around, just before Jack looks into Danny's room. It is of course even better to see in the 4:3 version.
@@deltabuilder thanks.
1:48 I've always wondered why there was plastic hanging down in that stairwell.
I have to be very careful about jumping to conclusions, but I think the plastic was used to diffuse the light from above in the stairwell. It would have been secured with gaffer tape and would have come loose before anyone noticed, until it was obvious in the edit room. Go to Juli Kearns' website (idyllopuspress) and search for 'Fig. 10 - Danny cycles past the stairs.'
@@deltabuilder very neat website. I think I'm with you though.
Amazing reconstruction! great work! Sometimes i think i want to live in the most awesome hotel ever made...in fact...ever and ever! Marvelous! EO!
Thanks Juan, Many fans have the same wish, to wander around the Overlook Hotel. Maybe one day the hotel will be built. Who knows...
@@deltabuilder WOW yeah! The Shining its a puzzle, a chess play, a Lego System, its more than a movie. With all respect. Thanks for show to the people the hyden aspects of this beauty.
Amazing! How did you find that wallpaper that is almost spot on?
Yeah, that was quite a search. I searched for 'flower pattern wallpaper'. After searching through hundreds of images (after fifteen minutes you really have to stop) I came across this one. There is a tiny difference, but this one does the trick. I found the pattern on Pinterest under 'vintage crown 70s wallpaper' and on Ebay.
Stunning work as usual! Never seen the said behind the scenes photo so that’s really intriguing. Lovely detail as per, love it.
Thanks Joel! I've already seen forgotten details, like the number on the outside door.
Thank you! I was always wondering why they never showed that wall.
