Just a few months ago I told my long term primary care doctor that I needed help with depression/anxiety. The very first he said was, we need to get you onto some benzo. I told him, no, I don't want to take medicine but rather wanted some talk therapy. Thank God I had read up on the adverse effects of these drugs.

FYI- for those interested NAD infusion therapy therapy is the way to go to get off of benzos and other meds.

What doctor would put someone in an induced coma whilst they have pneumonia? I am not a doctor, but I find it very, very risky.

Also Anti - Epilepsy drugs, BE AWARE, okay, they use this now for MIGRAINES and it is JUST the VERY same. After ONE sublingual tablet I said NOOOOOOOOOOO because akathesia is HORRRRRRIBLE and I experienced it THROUGH this effing sublingual tablet that supposedly was to make me feel better and prevent migraines.. HELL NOOOOO Hellll NOOOOO I said. NO MORE and quit

When my son had bad backpack. They say he has the spine of a 90 year old at 21. When this started I had him at 1 ED to the next as he was in so much pain. Their answer to the problem was to give him valium and codeine and morphine based meds. Eventually went to GP who treated him with pregabalin wich actually treats neuropathic pain. Well thanks to listing to Jordan Peterson and others my son made an active decision to stop taking all those addictive drugs prescribed yo him. He also then managed to stop the pregabalin. My point, they so quick to prescribe additive drugs. We talking g about a 21 year old who is high functioning, top student, clear headed and they could have turned him into an addict just like that

I really feel for him. I.wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, but what about the people who are suffering and have no one to help them? What about the ones whose doctors won’t listen and don’t believe them? What about the ones who have no family or friend support. People tell them they are crazy and literally turn their backs on them. People who don’t have the money or ability to look for doctors and help all over the world. I think there are so many of us who suffer for years with no one to help us. No one cares. This is why so many give up and commit suicide. I know because I am still suffering and I have gone through this alone!

Thank you so much for this interview. I'm a huge fan of you both. There is so little info about Benzo addiction and recovery out there. I was taking diazepam for 10 years! My doctor attempted to wean me off the 5-10mg a day I'd been taking via prescription, though I really didn't feel I could cope without it, so I bought it from the internet. I gradually foundmyself taking 150mg a day! I managed to reduce myself to 20mg last year so I could be prescribed a slow taper, from which I went on to drop 2mg a fortnight. I finished this taper 6-7 weeks ago. I can relate to almost everything Jordan is describing. The worst things I'm feeling lately are; not sleeping, severe anxiety and the absence of joy, or even the ability to sit with myself calmly and contently. It's like torture. I was lucky to get a prescribed reduction and I'm very grateful for that. I have no medical/psychological support however, and I feel absolutely alone in this. I have 4 children and, thankfully working from home right now, but it's so hard to keep up with my daily responsibilities. I am on autopilot and feel like I'm pretending to exist. I've been trying to find info on recovering from Benzo addiction but there is very little info. I am a single mother to my 4 children and I have no one to turn to for support through this. I can absolutely understand why people are on Benzos for life! It is torture, and it's ongoing. If you guys have any other advice/help on how to get through to the other side of a nasty Benzo reduction/recovery, I'll be grateful.

I wish that he had the same sympathy for what other people go through in life as everyone else shows for him. Behind every person he has condemned as being weak in one way or another, and needing tough love, there's a story. A story just as valid as his. Hopefully he has learned something. Jordan you were on benzoes for the sole reason that you went up against the devil himself on your own power and understanding. Let's just get that straight right now. Don't sugar coat it. Benzoes are valium's in that family prescribed for stress. You were under immense stress. Your work is paramount no doubt about that. You have taken intellectualism,academia and have married it with religion,spiritualism and your personal belief in God. God is doing a astronomical work through you whether you know it or not

Here in Austria the already use cannabis and ketamine for anxiety and depression treatment.

You are a psychologist. You should know what benzos are. It literally says on the bottle (cuz it has to in Canada!) that it’s addictive! He’s trying to pretend that ‘oh I didn’t know! It’s was a mistake!’ - also, I know his daughter and she’s had ‘gender affirming care’ aka plastic surgery to make her boobs bigger, her lips bigger… just look up her name and add ‘before surgery’ to google. She has had the same surgeries that trans people have. So why is it okay that she has it but others don’t?

Too bad you didn’t stick with the zopliclone. I’ve taken it for years 6 + and I don’t take it some nights now when I don’t feel i need them and if I have a few nights bad sleep then I take it. But I don’t have any of the side effects like Say the benzodiazepines. I also have OCD and the anxiety is so brutal, I take Buspirone. Thank the lord I have experienced not a single side effect starting that drug and also discontinuing it. Benzodiazepines I believe should be used for 7-10 days or less. Is my understanding.

When I did a taper off benzos, I didn't sleep for 14 days, and went months will little/ no sleep. It was a terrifying experience, there really is nothing worse as far a mental/physical torture. It rook me years to get anywhere near "normal". I still have trouble sleeping, and probably will for the rest of my life. Thanks to J.P. for sharing his story,. As our ol' buddy Friedrich said, "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger".
