1959 Jeep FC 150 Restomod (part 6) // Re-Designing The Steering

I'm taking a 1959 Jeep FC (Forward Control) body and putting it on a 2005 Jeep Wrangler chassis. This is the sixth episode covering the re-engineering of the steering. Because the modern day jeep chasis's steering column sits further back from the Forward Control Jeep's column, to complete this project successfully we need to re-congifure the steering. This is a shorter video in the series wher...

My father bought a W115 1976 Mercedes 300D and picked it up in Stuttgart...after driving it all over Europe...he sent it vack to Canada...he kept it until he died in 2006...I have owned a few W123 Benzes as well...I currently have a 1977 300D that is very close to the one in this video in terms of "clean" although it is hard to match "California clean"....
Could it handle a 4x4x16 🤔
I just found this build series. Phenomenal work!
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
rear DISC brakes FYI just bought a 82 300D t 175k miles for $1600, my rear brake rotors are ruined hence my comment...WISH my new car was in a garage...not my outdoors beater
Now have the model t tow the cybertruck
why would someone willingly buy a cybertruck 🤦♂
most innovative, cool vehicle I've ever owned, Instead of evolving the truck it was reimagined.
Where did you source all the parts for the window restoration? I'd love to restore the windows and weather stripping on the 1960 fc150 that I have.
looks like chitty chitty bang bang
By the way,the towhook is not from an 84 Mercedes-Benz. All the Best from germany ✌️
Where you driving this around the recent 2024 Reno, Nevada Hot August Nights car show ? I am a bus driver and somebody was driving a fully restored FC near the Atlantis casino/ hotel area.
Nope it wasn’t me
I had the opportunity to see this rack in person at the Tesla Service Center in San Luis Obispo last weekend. It’s a must have if you intend on using your Cybertruck as a workhorse. Very well built and perfectly proportioned.
Thanks so much for your endorsement, much appreciated
This is awesome
Thanks so much
Great job, we really appreciate the content. It has helped me a great deal. Would you please tell me what length of Steer Clear you used? I was thinking 14” or 16”.Thank you!
Hi David, I’m away from my shop until Friday I’ll measure it and let you know
@@theinnovationhandyman Thank you for getting back with me, I have already ordered a 12”. I measured wrong. The 16” was way too long. Again great job on the videos!
Looks great. If you need this truck to work with, you need this rack.
Looks every bit as odd as erroneous musk
sorry you don't like Elon Musk or the Cyrack but I must say i'm encouraged because If I'm in the same boat as the genious who is transforming the world before our eyes, I'm in great company. The world is changing my friend.
Love the build, can you share/show how the connection from the cable shift to the trans is made? Going to be running something very similar, thanks!
Yes. I used a custom billet aluminum adjustable shifter made for front wheel drive street racing cars and put it in facing to the rear. Then I had custom cables made and welded a bracket to the top of the transmission shift box.
A great finali for the projet. Very cool to see the process clips as well as first drive. Nice work on the video production as well.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed this video. I'm curious do you still have the car?
Yes my daughter still has it
@@theinnovationhandyman Glad to hear it.
It really hurts the credibility of this channel having these guys on here.
I thought it would be fun to share the two extremes of Cybertruck opinion. This is a concentrated dose of what I hear every day. The fun part is one of these two guys is right.
How did you do the shifter?
The world wants to see the truck pull.
That would destroy the ICE man
Man this deserves more views
Awesome build there buddy, can’t wait to see it finished, I love cab over trucks, I own a dodge cab over back in the 80’s good luck with it
Thanks Brian 2. Ireland videos left. The next one drops soon
If you don’t mind me asking how come you didn’t sandblast the body and epoxy it before mounting, it would have saved you a lot of prep
Good question. I needed to do a pre painting fitting. Do all my adjustments and welding then sandblast , epoxy primer and painting off the frame then final assembly. Keeps the frame and all the components from getting fouled with sand and paint
You’re going to have to lengthen the front frame a lot,
I can’t believe how good the cab shape is even the bed nice find
right rear did not appear to be spinning in 4 wheel drive. I am not familiar with these trucks. so does it have to be locked in?
Could you talk about your shifter in your next video please. This build is awesome.
Death trap 7 YOU CANNOT RECYCLE THE BATTERIES THEY GO INTO LAND FILLS FACT....
ICE guy, how many times did your EV friends vehemently assert something verifiably false about ICE cars? Zero. How many times did ICE guy vehemently assert something verifiably false about EVs? Every time he said anything about EVs. Get some training & expertise, dude. Or at least, know what you don’t know and ask questions and listen instead of asserting falsehoods. I his defense, he did make some progress in changing his opinion based on new information over the course of the day, something most people are too egotistical to do. That was admirable. “It’s easier to fool a man than it is to convince him that he’s been fooled.”-Samuel Clemens (I think?). Fun video, thanks.
Excellent observations, I completely agree agree, even though he’s my good ftuend
That was hella fun! I hope we get to see more head to head banter.
How are you going to manage the remote shifter linkage
How are you going to adjust the manual shift linkage?
It’s coming up in the next episode it’s done with “push-pull” cables
Megan is cool.
I’ve found an FC170 that I’m considering doing the same kind of thing to. I was thinking of the steering and wondering why the steering box out of one of those cab over commercial Isuzu trucks or something like that wouldn’t work. Just curious if you looked into anything like that. That system that you are using I’d worry about that steer clear box getting damaged somehow the way it’s mounted. I think that project is so cool… I love those old FC’s.
I think your solution can work. You’d need to match the pump pressure to the steering gear box. You are right the steer clear is exposed on my solution
Nice job John. great to see you here. Really enjoy watching this
Good stuff. Good inspiration for others. It’s good to see some of the metal work process unmasked. Looking forward to the next one.
Im loving your what Id call your "down to earth efforts", you dont hide your re-work or changes to your plans. I never have the money to do what id like to my 62 FC but im inspired by your videos! Thanks
Thanks Dan, I’m so glad I can help in some way
Hey how'd the bumper step and cab turn out?
It makes all the difference in the world, getting into the cab
@@theinnovationhandyman can you send photos or a detail of it, I'm trying to do something similar on mine?
Loving this series. I especially appreciate the inset video of the spline assembly during the overview shot.
I became exposed to the w123 cars in 1990 when i started detailing cars as a kid and have been around them ever since
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I'm doing the same thing with the same steering box and have been brain storming the connection.
Great John. Glad it helps. That’s why I like doing these videos. I get so much from RUclips myself
Soo much information here! love the step-by-step!
Do you think the suspension is going to keep the crossmember from hitting the front differential , doesn't look like much room . That engine is very heavy .
So far so good. It hasn’t hit yet. I am planning on putting some booster spring/ shocks in the front for another inch of clearance.
If you still have it, what is the paint code? It's gorgeous.
w123 is built to last, just like your beautiful daughter!!!
Crazy (in a good way) design and mad leatherworking skills.
Couldn't agree more!
Wow this is the best W123 I've seen.Just amazing salute to the previous owner hands down. It's just perfection. Listen to the sound when he hits the gas. AMAZING
John - loving this series and all the custom metal cutting/bending as well as all your welding skills. COE are a fave, whether it's the FC series or the Ford/Dodge pickup vans. Glad you're having fun!
Thanks Ned, so good to hear from you. I miss the “HotWheels of the Day”
They’re all disk brakes all four wheels.
