The Beaverkill a Flyfishing & Camping Adventure
I hike,,fish, camp,,hunt all over the adks. No filming. I just do it cuz I love it. Don't need anyone to approve it.
I have 4 Avid reels. 2 of them are Avid pros and they're great. I've taken one of them fishing in the salt several times with no problems. I just make sure to rinse it after every use and when I get back home I take it apart and clean it good. It still looks like new.
Buehler? Buehler?
Hated it, honest review
@@christophertoland7146 thank you for the feedback. I wasn’t sure if this would work or not.
Pretty awesome! I have recently considered bringing my rifle and fly rod with me on trips into the woods this time of year!
Doggie gits scritches
I bought the premier in 7wt for pink salmon. Caught many pinks with no issues. It’s a great rod
Love my jp rod!
Ive got the extreme in a 6 wt. 9’6” with fighting end. Its a great little stick!
I have been very impressed with their rods and reels a like.👍
we use some of Maxcatch gear at our TU school
It’s great gear to get them Started! I’m a TU member and on the board of the Mohawk Valley Chapter in Upstate NY.

just above the falls there are some deep pools that hold trout. T Lake itself has few too...
@@moodyblues1365 we wondered if the top might have some pools. Maybe next time I will hike into the lake and stream from above 👍
I used to put a hunting camp up off Mountain Home rd by the south branch of the West Canada 35 years ago. Been to the falls twice back then while hunting. I always said I'd do some fishing there and never made it back. Thanks for the video and the memories.
@@StephenHicks-x8g I’m glade I could bring back some memories 👍🎣
Haha when we hiked there in the 90's all we saw in the water at the base of the falls were two decaying deer.
Oh man that’s not a good day 😮
Haha@@Adirondacktroutbum, it was a grand adventure. Our trail head was the Irondequoit Inn where we were camping, so we came in from the top. We spent our first night at a fire tower and on day two made the falls then went back to Piseco Lake. The top entrance is slippery and very dangerous for sure and absolutely is to be avoided; we went there because everyone told us not to and we were young, dumb, and full...
www.jprossflyrods.com/
Cool. Nice place to visit with or without a flyrod. I like that small net but with some extra handle.. exact match for that kinda fishing.
@@NatureIntoAction www.streamwalkernets.com/ This video is below T lake a different way to hike in than if your going to the lake.
On my hit list and t lake!
Really nice video! I’m glad you decided to get it out to us. Beautiful adk.backwoods scenery ,the falls would’ve been way better with normal water conditions ,but still very impressive. Glad you guys were able to catch some beautiful wild brookies given such low water conditions. Thanks for sharing your outing with us and will be looking forward to your next adventure! Tightlines!
Nice fish! Love the fall too. It looks like it might be the Ausable? Not ever fished there, only seen videos...
This is not the Ausable its in the Southern Adirondacks.
@@Adirondacktroutbum ah nice. i'm close by then... hmm maybe Schroon? that's about 45 min from me
F-ck the rest of "my fellow americans." I live in TN; been to NC to pitch in what I can. The rest of y'all can F-ck off. The only ones with any stones at all are my brothers retired from carrying a weapon and now man-up and are here to help.
Nice catch
Beautiful brown! Awesome video! Keep up the good work man.
Heres my $0.02 worth on Maxcatch. If you dont want to read my long review then the summary is they have good rods and are good to deal with. I have been using their gear for three years on New Zealand trout and saltwater species. I am an active 60 yr old who has flyfished for 50 years. Put aside your peeing competitions about fly gear brands. Buy what you can afford and spend time on the water. Until recently my small-water rod was a 40 year old 6wt. An experienced fisher with that old rod will catch more than an occasional fisher with their $1000 rod. So to Maxcatch. I buy at the upper end of their range. If I had less cash I would happily go lower. Saltpro 9wt and Sparta reel: Does all I want for flats and channel fishing. Not much finesse, but bags of power. Gets large flies out there even if windy. Also used on Tongariro River this year with a SA Sonar full sink line. Heavy water 4lb plus fish...good at getting deep sunk line aerialised again. BTW have Rio, Airflo and Maxcatch saltwater lines. All cast well. 10ft 3wt In Touch Competition Pro Euronymph rod. Taught myself to euronymph last year. Lovely rod. Has handled trout to over 4 lb effortlessly. Increasingly a favourite method. The Avid Pro reel that I already had has fine tolerances and I dont need a full cage reel for the fine euro fly line. Caught a beautiful fish on it yesterday sight fishing, so its accuracy is fine. Skyhigh gold 6wt and avid pro reel.: My go to outfit for medium to larger rivers. Does it all. Mostly I indicator nymph with it, but I regularly swing medium wet flies down and across as well. Best all round rod I have ever used. Skyhigh 4wt. In dark green. Bought it to replace my 40 yr old small water rod. It is a joy to use. Caught 3 solid fish on it yesterday after the Euronymph session. Biggest was 5lb hard fighting rainbow. Had 4lb tippet. Rod was perfect. Accurate and delicate. Just used the Maxcatch freebie line... However, it is one of their better ones. I have used Cortland and SA lines for years and the Maxcatch one is great and perfectly matched the rod. This will be my dry fly rod. Their service throughout the rod and other gear purchases has been great. Just use Standard Freight. To NZ it is FedEx and is 7 to 10 days China to my small rural NZ address. ...and yes, I still use other brands, but if I only fished Maxcatch that would be just fine.
Great video and great fish. Tight lines. Keep up the good work.
I know that "sound". And what a great Brookie hole. I'm at a similar place in my RUclips channel and hope to grow together!
Good one, Alvin! That was a beautiful place and love how the creek changes as it goes along! Those were definitely some pretty colored brookies and love the colors of the hills starting to turn.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany thank you! I love getting out there and exploring. Maybe we should get out an explore together sometime 🎣
I love all your videos. And you did an excellant job of depicting what most will never get to see or do. And , those were the most colorful native brookies I’ve seen in awhile. But, gotta say friend. Why do you not keep them wet in the net and wet your hands when handling those precious little adk. gems. Their slime is their only protective layer against all kinds of fungus they can acquire and will kill them slowly. Otherwise. Dude. You’re the best!! Love how far you hiked and an awesome fly rod by JP Ross. Best rods ever and built locally. Keep it going forward.
@@wildbrookies thank you for your feedback. I’m always trying to lean and educate myself. I will work on your advice. Thank you 🎣
Looking forward to seeing more fall flyfishing from you! Tightlines out there!
I received the maxcatch fishing shirt too! very unexpected surprise. Such a great company! I would like to get sponsored by them too but I need to actually catch fish first lol
Always a fun watch to see how you approach these North Country trout streams. Nice session
Nature, solitude n trout. Triple play
Great video! This time of year the only place trout are feeding is way up the Ausable near Whiteface and further up into the Wilmington area. Of course fall is coming the Ausable will be shoulder to shoulder by October.
Anymore videos in the future?
Working on editing a short one soon and will be out this weekend making it happen🎣 I had a family emergency and was not able to get out for a month.
Fun videos, good editing job , do fly fishing videos as well. Where do you get your music from for the videos, I just got back from fly fishing in New Mexico and working on my videos.
New Mexico is beautiful!! I get my music from iMovies.
@@Adirondacktroutbum Thank you. It was my first time fishing in New Mexico. I loved it, and I am planning a trip to go back at the end of the month.
What a great channel! Your enthusiasm is infectious. You remind me of how I feel when I get out there……nothing like it. Keep putting the videos out, there are people that love this stuff. Great job!
@@3holer01 thank you!!
What does #5 reference what does it mean? Is it the line weight recommended for that rod?
The 5weight is In reference to the line weight.
How important is the color of fly line what should I consider?
Fly line color is more of a personal preference.
How long of a rod would you recommend for a beginner. I would like to get into the small streams for some Brook trout but worry about getting tangled in trees and such. Thanks in advance 👍
I would recommend either a 5ft or 6ft 6 rod. www.jprossflyrods.com/collections/rock-hopper-collection The rock hopper is amazing and highly recommend or the www.jprossflyrods.com/products/beaver-meadow-s-glass-adams-rod-and-outfit
Is this the ny or vt stretch? If you’re not comfortable with sharing completely understand. Gonna be buying my first fly rod Saturday and am interested in going to this stream.
I believe your thinking of the Battenkill, this was the Beaverkill location is in the Catskill Mountains of NY.
love this little spot!! Another great video
@@Bray-J thank you 😊
What were you using as a dropper ?
@@christophertoland7146 I was using a prince nymph size 12 bead head with a red hot spot. I tie them up like that. At the end of the video I show it. 🎣
@@Adirondacktroutbum yea baby that’s what I’m talking about I hammer the browns on west Canada with those
I ha e the 3/4 weight as well as the premier 9 weight. I love both rods.
Thank you Alvin for all your support and great tips. Get Outside. Simply Fish. and remember to hydrate. :)
Beautiful fish. Nicely done.
Thank you very much!
I need that 5’6” rod, looks awesome. What body of water are you fishing there?
www.jprossflyrods.com/collections/rock-hopper-collection You can find the rod It’s a small cold stream in Central New York.
Awesome fish. I actually helped drill in most of those stones and rebuilt the whole area including some of those waterfall drop offs from the floods like 10 years ago. Glad to see the fish are doing well. Now that I fly fish gotta come back and test it out.
@@rickkoster6644 thank you for the hard work you did on the gorge!
Looked like a great day on the water! Those were some beautiful rainbows, especially that bigger one! I love fishing smaller water like that, half of the fun is the exploring. Thanks for sharing!
Just ordered the apex and avid pro reel can’t wait to try it out let’s hope it cast as good as it looks 👌
Hope you enjoy it!
