Dialogue sur les Mixtures - Langlais
Просмотров 9524 года назад
A bit of fun with Dialogue sur les Mixtures, the final movement of Jean Langlais’ Suite brève, suggested by and initiated amid the temporary presence in Waltham Abbey Church of four pipe organs. Like the performer’s haircut, the filming was completed and edited single-handedly and somewhat informally by the performer during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown. The organs, in order of appearance: · Main ...

Clearly, the organist in this video, was not the best person to explain the mechanics of his instrument: a bit of the curates egg version I'm afraid.

Played beautifully. Faure' was possibly the father of the French impressionist composers. Debussy, Ravel, Satie etc.who all had a similar relaxed style and tempo and inscrutable melodies. How I wish I had your fluency on a keyboard. I just took your tonal and back of house tours of the Waltham Abbey organ and they answered most of my questions. It was lovely to speak to you in person today at the Abbey. Thanks Peter

"The guy that designed this organ was young and slim!" I've heard that before about a number of organs. I like your comment about the wind supply. I agree that slight variations in the pressure give the organ it's natural sound. I believe that as digital electronic organ technology has improved, the subtle ways in which the wind interacts with the pipes are what make the difference between a pipe organ and an electronic organ.

Really enjoyed this presentation, thanks for posting this. Clearly a gem of an instrument, and Manders have achieved a superb rebuild. Looking at the specification, you would never realise that the Great trumpet would be so fiery (in a classical French way). The new flue chorus on the Great is also a triumph. Overall an impressive instrument for Waltham Abbey!
