    I like Scab, he's a cool dude and got his input on a few knives knives in the past. Jacob Beech is a another cool dude too and I highly suggest his channel, as well as Chris from Prepared Mind, all great very great, friendly guys. Great video by the way and I like what you said about making your knife truly your own. I hope you cherish that RTAKII because OKC is no more so getting another one might be difficult like it was for me but I got lucky where I am. I had the Jurosz Camp knife right when it came out. I didn't like it, the scales were uncomfortable and chopping was a pain, it didn't have real force when you went to go chopping with it, so I sold it. I got an RTAKII over a Junglas because I love the flexibility of 5160 over 1095 and 1095 doesn't fare well in extreme cold Canadian winter temperatures so I went with a 125th Anniversary Collector's Edition RTAKII that comes in a black leather sheath and high end 5160. I stripped the black coating and put a sharper edge on it. This knife is my favorite chopper and goes great with my Esee 6. I might balance this set up even more by getting a slightly smaller knife than my Esee 6 and see how that goes but I carry a medium sized knife to bridge the gap between a small and medium sized tasks with my Esee 6, and my RTAKII for larger tasks like chopping and clearing brush. Anything smaller I think I'll just carry a multitool for the added tools rather than carry just a folder. I've had years of experience with a vast assortment of knives from so many different knife companies and I'm very close to perfecting my set up. I stay away from the gimmick of super-steels and stick to knives that are easy to sharpen and I keep a ceramic honing rod to bring my knives back to sharpness without taking any steel off by actually sharpening them, this way my knives last far longer than before. Oh, and Kabar doesn't use wood handles, they used stacked leather handles.

    • @charlesjonestherednecknerd
      @charlesjonestherednecknerd Месяц назад

      Super steals can be good however like outdoor55 has shown their actual edge holding for everyday tasks while exceeding those of basic steals is not as great as the price difference is if its a reputable company with a good heat treat. Thanks for watching.

    Good review thanks! I've always wondered why this knife is not more popular. I had a Buck 120 which I loved but lost it. I was very happy with the steel because of it's excellent edge retention. I could fillet a bunch of large fish and not have to resharpen it. I've never tried the 124. I might have to get one.

    I have a Schrade SCHF52 I use as a pry tool/digging implement for metal detecting/civil war relic hunting. It’s pretty stout. The tip broke off long ago of course. That Leroy looks like a lot of fun. Little bigger than my bk9 I use for clearing and what not. I can’t imagine the tip on those things would take much abuse though.

    • @charlesjonestherednecknerd
      @charlesjonestherednecknerd Месяц назад

      No the tip would probably give but for clearing stuff it is a lot of fun, I use ny schf9 in 1095 for digging and prying stuff.

    Hello and thank you for this Video on The Trail Master VG1 made in Japan..! Considering the purchase of a strong and durable hunting knife, I researched different knives and knife brands, my choices led me to choose 1 Cold Steel knife, either 1 Trail Master or 1 Natchez Bowie or 1 Laredo Bowie (only 460 grams..!) I fell for the same Trail Master model, solid & light, at the beginning of the year, and when I had enough money to pay for it, the "made in Japan" became "made in Taiwan" in VG10 Steel always made in Seki Japan.. but I definitely preferred to have 1 ColdSteel in San Maï III Steel made in Japan.!! So with luck, I ended up finding 1 ColdSteel knife made in Japan VG1: 1 second-hand "Laredo Bowie" from the past century (1990..), the model with its leather sheath and brass rivets, with its guard and part of the pommel also in brass. Its "rat tail" system, which makes this Bowie knife lighter (knife from the French word "canif" / "k"nif" in French ;-), makes it very easy to handle, fast and precise in cutting movements etc., in background 1 very good combat knife (presence of the guard..), but less practical for "Bush Craft"..! For the handle, coffin-shaped and made of hard "G10" resin, I also rolled up 1 "stapp'in" camo strip, which improves its "grip" and protects it. Since purchasing a real Bowie, ColdSteel, very solid, I do not regret it, for 2 months, I have had the pleasure of being the owner of 1 Bowie Knife ColdSteel.. That' s all folk ;-) , Hi from France . Bonjour et merci pour cette Video sur Le Trail Master VG1 from Japan ..! Envisageant l' achat d' un couteau de chasse , solide et durable , j' ai fait des recherches sur différents couteaux et marques de couteaux , mes choix m' ont amenés à choisir 1 couteau Cold Steel , soit 1 Trail Master ou 1 Natchez Bowie ou 1 Laredo Bowie ( seulement 460 grammes ..! ) J' avais craqué pour le même modèle Trail Master , solide & léger , en ce début d' année , et quand j' avais assez d' argent pour me le payer , le " made in Japan " , est devenu " made in Taïwan " en Acier VG10 toujours fabriqué à Seki Japan .. mais je préférai impérativement avoir 1 ColdSteel en Acier San Maï III made in Japan .!! Alors avec la chance , j' ai fini par trouver 1 couteau ColdSteel made in Japan VG1 : 1 " Laredo Bowie " d" occasion du Siècle passé ( 1990 .. ) , le modèle avec son étui en cuir et rivets en laiton , avec sa garde et une partie du pommeau aussi en laiton .. Son système " queue de rat " , qui allège ce Bowie knife ( knife from the french word " canif " / " k "nif " en Français ;-) , le rend très maniable , rapide et précis dans les mouvements de coupe etc , en fond 1 très bon couteau de combat ( présence de la garde .. ) , mais moins pratique pour le " Bush Craft " ..! Pour le manche , en forme de cercueil et en résine dure " G10 ", j' ai aussi enroulé 1 bande camo " stapp' in " , qui améliore son " gripp " et le protège .. Depuis l' achat d' un vrai Bowie , ColdSteel , bien solide , je ne le regrette pas , depuis 2 Mois , j' ai ce plaisir d' être propriétaire d' 1 Bowie Knife ColdSteel .. Et voilà ;-) .. Bien Cordialement ..! David .
