I play a bit of Japanese. Albeit I'm still pretty new, but I have lots of experience from aoe 1 and 3, so I understand more than my aoe4 experience alone. Japanese lack regular mill techs. This means they really want to get daimyo early for farms with the farm/wood landmark, which means mining stone, and thats not *really* compatible with a fast rush. To rush fast means not doing that, and probably going with the shinobi landmark instead. This *potentially* gives japan a food issue, eventually, unless he can farm transition with stone in the bank in late feudal. This means either: Japan are a little late into feudal aggro, OR they are weaker on food once into mid-late feudal, having gone with the shinobi landmark ( as this guy did) - which means no free farms, and no food rate bonus other than hunts after his berries are out. If he went Shinobi, he does NOT want to farm, and much as they are a pain, he can't spam them as they come from his landmark and nowhere else. Try to give him food issues and deny hunts, berries and shinobi mass. Onna are pretty strong, but don't have bonusses against cav. Sams are strong, but slow, and expensive. Their archers are cheap, but a bit weaker than regular archers ( although not by very much on either count). Put all of this together, and what you end up with as a strat, IMO, is a fast ( in his face at 6 minutes max) horseman / archer push on gathered food sources as soon as you can manage. Even if first contact is only 3-4 units.You'll likely be quicker than the farm landmark and stronger eco than the shinobis, *probably* . Force him to spend, and keep spending, food - especially if he's shinobi. You definitely want the first melee armor tech, and remember he has two melee attack techs in feudal. Kite your horse, under your archer fire ( which you'd do anyway, right?) All that said, they're a pretty strong civ IMO, and are my second pick ( behind English cos I'm a scummy noob, natch). This is my theory, and it's what I wouldn't like to see coming my way as a Japan player. That said, it could also just be half arsed theory crafting. Anyhoo. Another great vid Spriice... The reason you lost that game was allowing your 35 villagers to get slaughtered at the fight for gold. There was no reason to make the villagers fight. You lost 1750 food worth of villagers and your entire gold production.

I think you could have used those horsemen to raid his base since they won't do much good vs japanese melee units. then build an archer mass since samurai aren't exactly cheap.

2 consecutive loses vs Japanese, i think you should try military wing next time.

I try to play with camel archers, you just dont give Japan to blob his samurai, but it is only with good micro

I just got into deadlock this morning and played my first game it was alright!. Might play the odd game here and there. It was interesting seeing the japanese go shinobi It looked quite hard to match his units as he had high damage with the shinobi and I don't know if abbasid have a decent unit to counter the samurai in feudal? I guess like valdemar suggested you can't just blindly go 2TC? Thanks for the entertaining gameplay and commentary as always :)

You should experiment with 1 Town Center Aggro play instead of playing 2TC meta - it simply won't work in these types of matchups. Abbasid does not ALWAYS have to go 2TC.

i think maybe the main problem was not getting eco upgrades, even though you had so many on food, without eco upgrades it's not as effective

Hey mate, fellow Abbasid player here ranked about conqueror. Overall solid game but I have a couple of pointers; - I noticed a massive lack of camel archers. They cost purely Food and wood and do enough damage per hit that they work great as anti men at arm units especially with kiting potential on top. - You were losing the siege war against japan which shouldn't really happen with the superior economy of the Abbasid and the ability to build more with your infantry. - Big disregard for the stone on the map, even mining it with like 10 guys will allow you to secure additional gold by popping keeps down on the gold mines. - Against japan I've been having a bunch of success with 3/4 TC eco wing as it's extremely common for them to just go castle which buys you time to boom and even if they try to push with castle units you can still comfortably fight them in feudal due to the camel archer - If you see yourself floating too much wood don't be afraid to get more production and especially farms, I know I mentioned the camel archer a lot here but they work really well, even going to like 60-70 workers on food is perfectly fine because you can spend all of it with camel archer spam. They're effectively gold units that don't cost gold. Overall good and fun game to watch though keep it coming ^^

Trade wing is just must have, if you have factories on map, and of course it has to be in a good place, it would be prefer to cover with stone walls. It will worth after sometime plus it is infinite source of wood, that might end. I know that it was difficult to protect second gold mine but it is question of survive on that place

I didn't understand a few things Why age4 is culture wing? You didn't take any benefits from that. If you are aging up with culture wing, why you grade all units before discount? I would wait. If my opponent play with mass springalds, it is instant flag of horsmen for me =) It would help vs odzucu. And the last one - you are in diamond league, I dont understand how you play without bindings, only 1-4, 1-scout, 2 - melee, 3 - ranged, 4 - springalds I try to use 1-8 - for units and buildings - it will help you with game 1-3 units, 4 all production, 5-TC's, 6 - grades buildings, 7-mosque's, 8 - house of wisdom So F1-F5 is my hotkeys too And do a hotkey for your religious unit - for me it is F5, it is quite comfortable to not investigate where is your imam :D I hope it will help you with your games - I am not even a diamond, I am just surprised, that without bindings actually you may be a diamond =) But it is alright, just keep win and analyze your games! the onnabugasha unit is a tricky one when it combines with other infantry. From my experimenting ive found that 15 onna-b and 10 maa (samurai) beat almost any combo but what works well is 10 maa and 15 archer for an equal cost fight. The maa archer will slightly lose even if you micro your archers onto the onna-b BUT he spent 500 in gold and your comp only cost 200. So you gold counter them but not really field counter them.

I switched to playing japanese in the past few days and I've been learning their FC so this was really interesting to watch. Would archers being cheaper and faster to pump out be better than crossbows at countering the onna bugeisha? I've played league of legends for years so the new deadlock game looks interesting but I'm not the biggest fan of fps games. I'll have to try it as its an interesting mix between 2 genre's I think.

Question: I’ve noticed you pretty much always play as Abbasid. I’m in Plat 1 and I only play French and English. Do you think it’s counter productive to learn more civs or should I just get really good at those 2?

I thought you were done when he went Castle ngl, but you just held your nerve and i think you were right this guy wasn't used to games going beyond Feudal. Well done!

Hey Spriice, I play a lot of ootd. I would recommend trying out a more aggressive 1tc build in that matchup. Ootd typically wants to get an uncontested castle rush, grab relics, and then go fast imperial for swabia. Their economy is actually very poor until swabia so if you force them to spend resources on units and then outmass them with counters you will do well because anything you kill costs twice as much and takes twice as long to resupply. And I would leave a note for yourself to completely wall off the moment ootd hits castle because knight raids are always coming. Also, because their military units count as 2 population you can split your army and attack on 2 sides. Its really hard for ootd to fight in 2 places at once because of how few units they end up having. Good match tho. You'll do better in the next one!

I like watching you climb as its a similar path to what I'm on but with a bit more experience and head start so its nice to learn :)

I've kind of given up on 2tc rush now depending on what civ I'm up against. I've had much more success with early aggression and killing off some vils with longbows and then moving into 2tc or ageing up while I'm ahead. Early push means I'm prepared if they are pushing, or can catch them off guard and force them to start spending resources on military when I've already outproduced. Then by the time they have enough to defend, the damage has already been done and they've spent the same amount as I have or they over commit and fall behind. First to 3rd age can grab most of the relics and then it's pretty straightforward to the end of the game.

While the casted games are nice the ones where you are actively playing and thinking out loud just are more enjoyable imo. That is just one persons opinion idk where most everyone else stands. Either way very good stuff.
