Couldn't find many videos on this installation, so I decided to share my install. This is a bunch of videos, compiled into one. Please excuse the leaf blower at neighbor's house!
So far so good, everything is working properly. The installation instructions from Rough Country are lacking in right side installation (4 min), needs some updates, but overall, I figured it out. I didn't show the right side wiring, but you just take the wire ...

2022 RAM 1500 AlfaOBD Tire Size Adjustment and Speedometer
Просмотров 12 тыс.3 года назад
2022 RAM 1500 increased tire size to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275 60 20 which are 33.1 inch (2642 mm spec), as compared to the 31 inch Dueler HL Alenza stock tires (2462 spec). I adjusted tire size using AlfaOBD, to align the speedometer and gas mileage. Need to bypass the security module (SGW), under dash, which is installed on 2018 greater vehicles. Does the lock down handle for your hard top cover interfere with the swing box when you lock it down? Thanks
so the running boards that I find only have 2 brackets, and thats for my 2024 ram 1500. I wonder if they still make it with 3 brackets.
Interesting. I think I might go for the OEM ones.
I'd recommend their newer model. I have them now, and like them better. Easier to install as well, with magnets for sensors, not tied into truck computer.
After you do all this setting modification, can you remove the bypass and obd2 dongle from the truck?
Yes, only necessary to program. Then remove.
Thanks for the tour. I installed these on my 2010 Ram as my original factory ones rusted off.
Been wanting to upgrade from the 18" to 20" Laramie wheel on my 22 and was afraid it was going to be too expensive to calibrate the speedo. If i leave it alone it will be 3-5 mph off. But i see several complaining of losing fuel mileage. Making me rethink doing this at all
I don’t think gas was affected that much. Just my opinion. I really like my Falken Wildpeak AT3W ruclips.net/user/shortsgcwBVbFteE4?si=v8MWyeWYvgXyuZfN
\ \We've had the same issue. Talked with my FTA and we got to n touch with engineering. The PAM is designed to work with tire sizes between 2430mm to 2557mm circumference. The 2023 models have this issue even with an MVP contract. I have been using AlfaOBD and setting max size to 2555mm and no DTCs. It's about 3mph off at 75 on 35s but we explain this to the customer and they have been ok with it. Engineering is supposedly working .. See more
Did you have to put on the sensors? Thank you for the upload
The model in this video is older than what they sell now. For the model in this video, there are no sensors installed. It is plugged in to the vehicle, and the sensors are the onboard sensor for the doors. In the new rough country model, it does have sensors that you install using 3M strips. They are magnetic sensors that you place inside the door jam
I bought th sgw plug off your Amazon link. It looks different from one in video. And I cant where to plug it in
Great video. Thanks for the link. I ordered off your link. Hope you get a few bucks
Thank you for sharing all you learned here.
Them rams have alot of wind noise around the windows. A nice sounding tire should put you to sleep
I’m putting the leveling kit on mine. What size tires are those?
275 60 R20 Here is noise test too m.ruclips.net/user/shortsgcwBVbFteE4
Is that thr correect bypass cable in the link? Doesnt look the same.
is this it?
I tried to give you two different links for Amazon but it keeps getting take down. The link he provided is incorrect. Additionally, I used the veepeak OBD II I bought for like 15 instead of the 120 OBD.
So how bad is the drone? I want the quietest most aggressive all terrain haha! 25k a year 98% highway driving 80 mph. The drone on the ridge grapplers and Mickey Thompson Baja boss was too much to handle.
Barely notice a difference from stock street tires. Minimal drone. Handle well off-road and in snow. Highly recommend.
Thanks, I appreciate the response! @@acer154d
I really want to go up to the 275/65/20, but I don't want to sacrifice the ride quality of my Lariat sport. There is a lot of weight difference between the two sizes!
how did you correct the ft and rear park sensors so they work after 2022 1500 dt/ds models after setting the tire size it sets a code in PTS module, vehicle line mismatch b222a-00 and renders the front and rear park sensors unavailable <in other words they do not
None of that occurred when I changed mine. Afraid I don't know. Maybe something went wrong. Check with dealer.
i am the dealer @@acer154d
@@ShopForeman-p7bjust did my tire size correction and I'm trying to figure out the same thing.
did it reduce the mpg?
Not much, they ride smooth. mpg is so bad in these RAMs anyway, tough to compare :)
@@MarketingProfswhat do you consider bad? My 2019 crew cab 5.7 loaded with wife and 2 kids on vacation from Houston to Alabama for 5 days and back averaged over 20mpg. Had multiple stretches where I was getting 25-26 driving 70mph in eco mode. I have hankook dynapro at2 in 275/60/20 with 55k miles. I’ve had multiple 3 hour trips 1 way getting 20-22mpg cruising around 75mph in a good wind. Now if wind is bad it drops to 18mpg
Did you ever have any ABS issue? Just followed your video for a 2021 rebel and my Speedo is now perfect, and no code. Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. Thx!
I’m no expert, but I didn’t have to do anything else. No abs adjustment
@@acer154d Thx! Thinking I will leave as is unless I get a check engine light!
Just changed my tire size 2021 Rebel. Now my parking sensors won't turn on. I set tire size to the TRX factory size that's what I'm running. Spedo is prefect, parking sensors are not working.
i have 3.92 gearing. any benefit to adjusting the ratio down if not towing etc? maybe fuel economy or something?
I've read on numerous post to NOT change the gear ratio unless you have physically swapped out the gears. It can potentially put your gear in "limp" mode.
You cannot change your gear ratio with a computer. You would have to change your gear set in the front and rear differentials to do this. Then, say you went to 3.23 gear ration, you would then change that in alfaobd to 3.23 instead of 3.92
I wonder how many people were behind him wishing he would get his slow ass out of the left lane.
Are the 275/60/20 E load?
I believe the BCM and ECm firmware is the same between the classic and new gen. My 2021 Classic 1500 didn't throw any ABS codes or issues after changing the tire size
Falkens are the best
Hi Aaron, I just installed the OBD linkmx + with the adapter. I managed to change the tire size to the exact speed as my GPS. the issue I have now is I've gone from 19 to 20 litres per 100km to now at 28 litres per 100 km. shouldn't my gas mileage be better? would really appreciate if you could help me with this.
If you put larger tires on that stock you're going to lose mpg's. Alfaobd and changing the tire size in the computer will not get you better fuel mileage
for mine when i unlock the truck it only slides the driver side stepbar out but for the passenger side it only slides out if someone opens any right side passenger side door not sure if anyone might know where i went wrong?
That sounds correct
@@acer154dso it’s only the driver side that’s slides out? thought both should slide out when unlocking it?
Hi thanks for the great information! I was wondering if you could tell me the exact drop distance on your steps. I think it says 6 inch on rc website But it doesn't look like 6 inches in your video. So I was wondering what the distance is from fully up to fully down in inches on your 2022 ram 1500.. Also if you could tell me what the exact width of the step is? (I have the same year 1500) thx so much!!! 🙏
They come down further than any boards that I am aware of. They drop approximately 5 inches from their closed position when door opens, 8 inches from ground on 2 in leveling kit. As for width, I won’t be able to check that til next week. Away from vehicle. Approx. 7 inches
@@acer154d Okay great perfect Thanks for the info on the drop length! Yeah I'd appreciate the width of the step from you. I was on tech support with RC and they said they were approx 4 in wide.. So I'll be curious to know what you tell me when you get to the truck.. thx again!! I watch for your message 😉
Do these have the leds along the bottom?
Yes. Kinda useless, because they don’t shine on the boards themselves, but they work to illuminate the ground when door open. Not that bright. They seem more decorative than functional.
Thank you this was super helpful
Great video. Can you verify the mm numbers for a Toyo Open Country AT3 tire size 33x12.50R22
Afraid I don’t have that information. Check the spec for that tire online. I’d say roughly same as my Wildpeak, in this video. In the end, you’ll want to use a gps speedometer to adjust the mm so that it matches the vehicle speedometer. Same as I did.
Thanks Aaron and will do.
Hi. Do your power running boards come down further/lower than the factory style chrome running boards? I have a 4" lift on my truck and the wife finds it too high getting in the truck now because she's short lol. Thanks.
They come down further than any boards that I am aware of. They drop approximately 5 inches from their closed position when door opens, 8 inches from ground on 2 in leveling kit.
do you leave the bypass plugged in? or do you take it off after making changes?
Not necessary, I've disconnected mine and plugged the cables back into the SGM.
My Brothers er name Aaron lorentz 😂
Thanks my guy
Good video. For future reference if you do anymore mods and for others that watch this, you can run the wire across the opening at 1:55 where you pointed out the bracket to use for mounting the module. You just have to make sure the wire does not interfere with the actuator. I ran a wire across that way when I installed dual function light modules in my doors for the mirrors
I did hear you also say you did not have to adjust your ABS? It does it automatically is that what you found to be the case.
That’s correct, they were no changes necessary for anything else. I suspect they have upgraded their computer in the newer model, and it doesn’t have all the dependencies as previous models.
One last question did you leave it plugged in until you got the speedometer calibrated or did you disconnect then test it out and if not corrected come back and reconnect and try again?
You can leave it plugged in. It is simply a bypass, there are no interactions outside of connecting to the computer. You can leave it on for as long as you like, it has no implications driving or not
@@acer154d Well let me say I finally got speedometer calibrated after a few tries. Thanks for your great tutorial video which helped me tremendously and fairly easy to do.
Also did you have any other issues ie park assist going out because I read in other forums where guys are saying they had trouble with that? Oh by the way great video!!
On the 2022 1500, I had no trouble with park assist. I believe that was issue in older vehicles, but 2022 firmware manages this better.
I think if you set it above 2715mm then it knocks out ParkSense. So just put the number lower and it should work.
Thank you for the process on a 2022 I just did this on my truck and it worked perfectly. I have a 2022 limited with the 22" rims and the factory setting was dynamic tire Circumference 2503mm, When I loaded the new tire size I did get a warning for forward break mitigation not working as well as a check engine light. I disconnected alpha OBD, cycled the key and all the errors and check engine were gone.
@@acer154d I have mine set to 34" on my 2022 Limited with 35s. It's reading about 2mph slower than what it should at 70mph. I am bit nervous to increase the setting in case it knocks out parksense but I may give it a go. Do you know if Parksense is knocked out will it return if you put the setting back?
@@landofnor I am no expert, but didn’t affect parksense at all
the 2 black ports from the truck itself jump right at you when look under the dash correct? How are you getting the measurement in mm for your circumference as I have 35s but are measuring around 33.5in.
in the 2022 1500, you'll see them under the left side of the dash. There are plugs currently in the ports, and you swap out for the ODB adapter.
Also, re: tire size. Look online for circumference calculator. But, sizes will vary depending on time of year (temperature), and inflation. Best best is to get a GPS/speed app on your phone, and try to match the speed of the GPS app by adjusting circumference settings in ODB until closely aligned.
Can you turn off the shitty MDS cylinder deactivation garbage? That would be amazing.
I can’t say for sure, but I’ve only seen manual ways to do that using +- shift buttons.
I like those tires, what are the specs on those?
Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/60R20. Could also consider the 275/65R20 ... kinda wish I went with a little larger.
Can also check the noise test in my channel ruclips.net/video/gcwBVbFteE4/видео.html
@@acer154d thanks I just picked up the same truck yesterday but I do like the black wheels so considering just changing the tires and a front level kit. Great Video.
@@stosgarage456 Congrats! Yep, I did tires and rough country 2in leveling kit. Something to note, before changing anything, check your average miles per gallon. I didn't check mine before changing tires and leveling, but I'm now only getting 11 MPG city, and 14 MPG highway. Not sure if this RAM was that bad prior to changing, but it's painful to see! Also, if you increase tire size, see my video on calibrating the vehicle for larger tires with AlphaOBD.
What’s the maximum size we can go with those tires on oem rims? I think we have the same ones 20 inch
I got a 2015 on 35s and my speedometer is corrected by one of the factory presets I used Harrison’s excel spreadsheet and it turns out my 35 is not a 35 when it’s rolling it turns into 32.97 making it a 33” tire and 2631mm is what I got using his spreadsheet so it happened to be a preset FCA had for my truck and I didn’t have to do the ABS configuration
What preset was this?
I have General Grabber X3 35x12.5R18 and your MM set up got me close I might have to add 20mm more to be spot on
Do you know if this bypass cable works on the 2022 Ram 2500?
Afraid I’m not 100% sure. I believe it does, and has same pins, but it is located behind the speedometer/radio in dash. It appears to a lot more work to get to than the 1500.
Anthony, checkout the Kaodtech Bypass Cable 19+ Ram 2500 real simple compared to going behind the dash.
Thanks for the video. I'm glad I watched your video because I though I would have to do a lot of cutting.
Glad it helped! I thought I’d have to cut a lot too, but definitely wasn’t the case. Good luck!
Go big or go home!
Do the 275/60/20 fit without a level kit? No rubbing?
Yes, they fit fine without leveling. I only leveled to get rid of the factory stance. You could probably go up to a 35 in without a problem. Wildpeak makes a 275/65/20 I think, which should be fine without leveling.
@@acer154d but then they are E load range way to heavy for 1/2 ton Very stiff sidewall
Why not just get longer self tapping screws vs cutting the bed liner?
You want to mount it metal to metal, solid. The weight in the Swing case over time would likely indent the plastic, and cause problems with functionality. Could have tapped in over top of it, just felt more reliable to mount to body directly.
@@acer154d yeah thank god I found your video just got one for my 2017 Silverado, it won’t even be close to alignment until I lifted my bedliner up alittle and tested fit good but than I was worried about the gap and it not siting flat and flush but you confirmed it l works just fine.
