A quick look at my ConcertHall IV "pong" deck from 1977. Complete with silly intro.
Not the same unit but this is the exact model of pong deck I received for Christmas in 1977. This one I bought off eBay about 2010.
Tele-Match Concert Hall IV Model 8800, manufactured in 1976. Ran on six C-cell batteries or AC adapter. Uses one of those funky coaxial antenna adapters with 3/4 channel selector.
Had four modes of play:
Tennis (two-player, one paddle each)
Hockey (two-player, two paddles each)
Handball (two-player, one paddle each)
Solo (one-player, one paddle)
Amazing game customization options included two paddle sizes, two ball speeds, and two rebound angles. We fought over these constantly, made it really fun when you would switch one in the middle of a game.

Pilot repaired my E95S for FREE! What a fantastic experience, thanks Pilot!

    do you like the 823 or the 743 more? thoughts?

    • @skittish1
      @skittish1 3 дня назад

      You know, I think about this a lot. The 823 is just a bit heavier than the 743 so I find it more comfortable and easier to write with, particularly for longer sessions. My handwriting is poor so a heavier pen helps me keep my lines straighter. It's only a few grams but I can feel the difference when I switch between them. The 743, however, is *so* much easier to clean and swap inks. It's much more convenient when I want to try something new or run with one color for only a few pages. This particular 743 also has a SFM nib which I'm not taking to like I thought I would. I'm leaning toward Pilot's firm nibs (non-soft), the soft ones aren't helping my poor handwriting. It's an extra factor I just don't have the dexterity to appreciate or control.

    I had the same amazing experience with my vintage Elite. Bought a “slightly” damaged pen on eBay. Slightly damaged meant a large chunk of the barrel was broken out but not shown in the photos. Sent to Piot seeking a new barrel that I expected to pay for. Took a long time, including a trip by the pen to Japan. Great results all free. Double thanks Pilot.

    • @rogerrothman
      @rogerrothman Месяц назад

      Funny that you say that-I’ve learned that relative to others, I write with a very light hand, which means that I end up getting more line variation out of 74 SF than I do with either the 742 SF or the 743 SF (since the larger ones are less flexible). I love the tactility of writing with a fountain pen, so when I write with a nail (and I find that Platinums are WAY stiffer than any of the Pilots), I do like to bear down more to feel the nib across the page.

  • @HADESPAYLOAD
    @HADESPAYLOAD Месяц назад

    I believe after some writing there is a change after a few pages. Other said no but my FA is very different from day 1 to 30 pages. Im finding this might be true on my CH912 FA nib. I dont own any softs and maybe I learned to be lighter with the FA nib which you really need to be light handed with. If you like small and a nail the PO nib I love its like a Platinum UEF and designed for writing on poor quality paper.

    Glad you like the fuyu-syogun. I find it works very well in my Pilot Falcon, which has a nib that’s SF and provides some line variation (but isn’t a full flex). If you ever do buy one, I’d recommend the metal version (I think it’s called Elabo in Japan). It has the Con 70, whereas the resin version can only fit the Con 40 (which holds far less ink). And just to say, congratulations - that Custom 743 is one beautiful pen!

It does require a light touch, but over time has improved my handwriting because of that. I only use Iroshizuku take-sumi (charcoal bamboo) in it. I am not impressed with the one (probably my only) vac filler I purchased from some fishy foreign company. I find it difficult to fill these pens when the ink level is low in the bottle. With a converter I could simply take a blunt needle syringe and fill the converter. Besides, cleaning can be a struggle too.

    • @skittish1
      @skittish1 Месяц назад

      Thank you for the comment! Converters or reusing cartridges is my fave too. While I really like the look and the physics involved with these vac fillers I'm starting to realize the drawbacks. I haven't had to really deep-clean one yet but you got me thinking it's going to be a huge pain if I ever want to switch inks or if there's staining in this demonstrator. I picked up TWSBI's proprietary bottle for filling this one that's designed for low-ink situations but doesn't help for non TWSBI pens. Sadly Sailor charges so much for the limited editions which are mostly slims and 14k nibs. I have 2 fine one bitone PG strandard and one rhodium 1911 Large. The Bitone nib I have has amazing feedback. The 1911L is close but much less pencil feel and noise. Stupid they dont come with a converter so I suggest just getting some sailor cartridges and treat them as samples for your Sailors. How come the ink does not appear red on paper? I recently became interested in fountain pens and calligraphy. I bought the calligrapher's bible off of ebay that came with some nibs. I have one of those handmade pens woodworkers make somewhere but what is a good starter pen for practicing cursive writing?

    • @skittish1
      @skittish1 2 месяца назад

      The ink color doesn't show very well because of the camera I was using to record. Not the best but it's what I had. I've since switched to using my phone which is better but not by a lot. Hoping to upgrade some lights too but it'll be a while, I keep spending my budget on pens. :-D I don't do any calligraphy but I'm familiar with the type of sets you're talking about. The sets look great but the nibs tend to be flat or angled so managing the pen angle and strokes for calligraphy-style writing is a bit too much for my skill-level. Maybe someday but for now I stick with more "round" nibs like a Fine, Extra Fine, and Medium nibs. The fountain pen I started with to practice cursive was a disposable Zebra fountain pen. About $2 and a good Medium-Broad nib with lots of ink in it. After using up a couple of those I wanted to try some different nibs and inks so next was a non-disposable Platinum Preppy for about $6. A great place to start without spending a lot of money. Let us know how it goes as you try more things out!

      "Sticky" is a great way to describe how it behaves! It is such a bummer the ink seems to need just the right environment to work well. I really love the color so I keep giving it more chances, someday we'll find that sweet-spot! It's much better in my 823 since I've adjusted the vac plunger but the color is much lighter now. I think I love it best when it's on the verge of drying out, the blue and sheen are so pronounced under those conditions.

      @@skittish1 yup, well it's Endless' first try on making inks and I haven't tried the 3 other colors yet, so I do have hopes that they behave differently

      That's interesting Endless is new to the ink game, I had no idea. In this case I was the problem, I didn't have the valve open enough for the ink to flow well. I'm now on my second fill for that 823 and it's so much better, albeit a touch lighter. I've let it sit for a couple days between uses and no issues. I'm feeling really good about it.

    Hi, As someone who is left handed (underwriter also) its a miracle to find fountain pen channels that use the same pen (spec pilot custom 823) and with the same hand and their experience writing with it. It took me a while to learn it as i quad grip the pen but having seen you hold it near the threads with three fingers ive been trying that, its helped loads. Is the pilot custom 823 a pen you use most days?

      Also i want to try and Nib swap with a pilot custom 743 Fine/Medium, i understand it voids the warranty and its not recomended but is it something you've tried or would try at all? (im from the uk and Pilot pens are like gold dust, ordered from japan and really happy with the pen atm, the Video is ace, thank you :)

      Hey that's amazing, I'm glad we found each other then! I never even thought about how I write until I started moving from ballpoint and gel pens to fountain. They're wonderful but demand so much discipline, not something I have a good store of. I was a side-writer in college but transitioned to under-writer at some point and don't even remember when. My daily before I purchased the 823-F was a 912 in Waverly. I'm working in the 823 to mix it up (and justify the cost of the pen :-) but I still reach for the 912 more than any other.

      @@torindelmonte8952 I'm sorry I don't have a lot of experience with nib swaps on pens at this level. The only work I've done on a Pilot is replacing the feed on a 742. The process was really simple though, only took about a minute. I bought the 742 second-hand so I wasn't worried about voiding the warranty but it was still terrifying.
