Dallas to Boston heavy turbulence on take off
Просмотров 11 тыс.9 лет назад
May 25, 2015 saw a large storm hit Dallas. All planes were grounded for over an hour. Once take offs were approved the queue was massive and there was only one approved flight corridor which turned out to be very hairy, The video does no justice to the amount of turbulence we encountered, but the tension in the Flight Attendants voice says it all.
A flight through the clouds

This was taken from seat 4F of a Qantas B737-800. When the clouds form fluffy white layer it is a magic moment when you pass into and through it. Interlude by London Grammar is such a beautiful match I could not resist. I clearly make no claim on the song.
Emirates Flight met by Fire trucks in Melbourne

On Sunday 11 August 2013 the Melbourne flight from KL to Melbourne was met by six fire appliances due a burning smell in the hold. The all clear was eventually given and the plane departed on time! Top work by Emirates and the airport to put safety first.

I worked on this product in IBM. Well actually i worked on the software to make it usable - DFSMSrmm. i went to IBM San Jose in February 1992 to package DFSMSrmm up for maintenance and development. One of the IBM technical writers in SJ was an artist and she made the team "i survived the ATL" T shirts - I still have mine in my closet. My contribution is that I wrote the EDGTSO command line processor, i wrote all the ISPF dialog and screens, i also wrote the EDGINERS tape initialization and security erase utility and I wrote the EDGMUPD maintenance job that you would run each night to run various housekeeping functions.
How to get this GUI, which cables do we have to connect?
Where’s the turbulence ffs!
hi i want my data i dont mind if it takes a few hours
I think it's fair to say you've cornered the elusive market of people who are fascinated by IBM tape storage robots and vintage tractors.
Anthony - long time
Yeah okay acid burn, thats enough
Fucking hell just a few minutes of a shaky takeoff...
The video sure looks like it was done with a NewTek Video Toaster... good old Amiga.
Possible Yamaha FM 7
I have one for my home network. Unfortunately, I now have to keep my bedroom door locked.
Imagine this at night!
Wow! Rough turbulence over Dallas!
Very impressive technology for 1992 !
1992 wasn't the stone age
@@tomservo5007 I totally agree with you, but in 1992 robotic science wasn't developped like it is today and this robot and his movements are quiet impressive !
There were a lot of industrial robot in 1992, this was one.
I WANT one! ... So I'm going to build my own (albeit much smaller)
who did the music
interesting retrieval robot; who knew IBM's tape archives was THAT immense?
Did first one in USA, the amazing Anthony for so many others. Painewebber
dat midi keyboard sexy sounds like FM or Ad-lib
Anyone know what this music is?
Orange - Joris Voom
Thanks.
It's actually Rapid Transit from Dancin' Heat by Network Music Ensemble, composed by Larry Groupé. Production music.
If a HAL9000 gets control of that robot arm then watch out!
More than tension it is more frustration over PAX getting up during turbulence. I am a flight attendant with almost 22 years of service. Too bad the video was too short
+carleton morris I think it was a combination of both. The take off was very very rough. I should indeed have kept the video going as the pilot made a really good well explained statement about 5 minutes later about the takeoff and why it felt so bad.
Back in 1993, I installed 2 3495 at a French customer. When the 'animal' boots, the robot check the vision system by looking at 4 bare code labels stuck on it. I always imagined that it was looking at it's own belly button . Also, with the customer team we planned to affix 3 peacock feathers on the waist of the robot to make it look like a French cancan dancing girl. Old memories....
+Jacques Bouchard I did have TS3500 customers who affixed pictures of popular footballers to the accessors ....
So sexy :)
serious tape rig
When power is restored, if the on buttons are on, then the machine will power on automatically. Your comment about the flat batteries is correct. This is described in the Storwize V7000 Information Center under "Maintenance discharge cycles"
When Power is restored after maintenance, does the cluster start automatically or is manual intervention required? From what I have read, if you do not shutdown the unit the way you describe the cache battery can run flat (if extended outage). When Power is restored IO will not be served until the batteries are recharged (mentions .. could be hours). Good to know.
The robot was a Fanec industrial robot that was used in car manufacture. I think IBM ran out of robots or Fanec stopped making that model, which sped up the switch to the smaller 3494, which went on to drive STK out of business.
Hi Anthony, it wasn't the primitive IBM 3494 that drove STK out of business, it was being taken over Sun that did it !!! The STK 4410 and 9310, had a much greater Enterprise Tape storage market share than IBMs Library products. Not to mention the SL8500. Overall STK probably had about 50 to 60% market share in both open systems and Enterprise Tape libraries in the late 90s and early 2000s. IBM never achieved that market share even when they gave away a 3494 or 3584/TS3500 with a Z series and a Shark :) STK > RIP !!!!!!
The robotics company is FANUC (Factory Automation Numerical Control) and pronounced as if it rhymes with _panic_ .
I remeber our IBM rep explaining this to me, I had to fight to stop smiling. I finally asked if it went through a lot of brakes (my understanding was the robot was an automotive painting robot). His reply was "No, but we did have problems with fragile cracks on the rails"
A modern cheap avr could do the same, and if you also get an intern you could make him move 300 grams
:) hmm I Want one ... With the Light it almost seems human and friendly (Warm) ... But can it pick up my room? :(
@BoardOfRandomosity Scary thought! There were interlocks to prevent this. I suppose you could just jump on the robot and go for a ride...
So, if you were inside of this, fixing it, and some moron turned it on, would you die?
He he... unfair... it could move two 300gram carts at once!
300kg robot to move 300g cartridge.:)
Beautiful.
