We spend a short time at Chester where lots of very modern trains can be seen. Transport for Wales class 197 fleet, Merseyrail class 777 fleet and Avanti West Coast class 805 fleet are all now in regular action.
Whilst at the station we see an empty class 805 unit arrive from Crewe into platform. Shortly afterwards 805005 arrives from Holyhead and proceeds to couple up with 805011 for the journey to London Euston. At this stage the train is operating on diesel engines and at Crewe the pantographs will pop up and the train will switch to electric power for the journey south.
