Using your square to align a part in the chuck like that is new to me, but I’ll keep it in mind.

Well done, looks good, can’t believe that you produced the knurling effect with a triangular file, you have more patience than most people. The only advice I can offer is that wearing gloves while operating machinery is very dangerous, instead of a minor scratch you could lose a finger or even a hand. Good luck with your future endeavours.

This is Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. About 200 meters north of the Southern Cross station. Video was taken from the La Trobe street bridge. Some of the track in this area is quite terrible and dates back to the 60s and 70s, nice to see infrastructure upgrades slowly rolling out.

Taking an educated guess this is the approach to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. The trains stabled on the left are Melbourne suburban stock and the tracks on the right are dual guage being standard gauge and Victorian Broad gauge.

Nice. Very similar to one I made for a little Atlas 6" lathe I had. As for the welding take a closer look but if I am correct he's running flux core and also take a look and you can see it's obviously cold where he is. I'm guessing here that the material was as cold as ambient temp and anybody that has spent anytime behind the hood knows that unless he can get the base material up to temp it's not going to burn in well with flux core, or any type of weld for that matter . Everyone has to start sometime and learn. IF you hadn't taken the material inside and let it warm up or taken a heat source to warm it up, next time you need it welded bring it's temp up and it will weld a lot easier and better (free advise and better than criticism). If using a torch bring it up to around 200F/95C this isn't going to get you into cert. welds but will be more than enough for projects.
