It’s the time of the year where we start thinking about fall and cooler temperatures, so we’re getting ready to plant those cool season crops like brassicas and root vegetables. To plant new crops we need compost and a LOT of it. So we’re getting our established compost pile back to life. #vegetablegarden #compost #naturalfertilizers #homesteadingforbeginners

You’re absolutely right! This is my second year gardening & I recently started using shade cloth on my tomatoes & pepper plants! It definitely makes a difference! My plants are healthy and productive! Thanks for sharing your homestead garden! Hello from Long Island, New York! (Suburbs) 😊👋🏽🇺🇸
May I ask where in west Texas are you? Or if you’re close to midland?
We’re close to plains Tx
Amazing!
Use soil health principles - 1 keep armor on the soil - mulch, hay, green manure, plants, but don't have any visible bare soil. 2 reduce disturbance including tillage, chemical fertilizers, chemical poisons, fungicides and herbicides too - they kill your soil life that feeds your plants. 3 increase diversity of plant, animal, insect, birds, etc. 4 keep a living root in the soil for as many months of the year as possible so your plants feed the microbes and the microbes make soil aggregates and water can infiltrate better. 5 incorporate livestock & animals - earthworms are animals too. 6 keep it in your context - don't try growing lots of bananas in Canada or water loving plants in a desertifying area.
It’s extremely hard to find wood chips in our area, but that’s definitely on the to do list. We never use fertilizer or chemicals. We have lots of animals, watch our other videos. We’re always planting new crops all year round.
Thank you ❣️
You are so welcome
