Nice review. You could probably pull an end off your long stylus and use a tubing cutter to shorten it up to fit in the case.
I was just in Vegas the past 2 weeks. No Ham stuff just looking for a house. There is an easy to get to POTS spot called Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. I picked up one of those masts at Hamvention as well. They do make traveling easy.
I thought about the fort, but I wasn’t sure how they felt about flying antennas there with the historic nature of the joint. I will be back in August for another conference so I will be planning on hitting some more parks this time. I try to travel at least one day early to so I have some flexibility in my schedule.
Thanks Tim. Some great video.
I really enjoyed being out there. I will be back later this summer to hit some more parks.
The ham radio adventure guy has a spike that helps when you need to put this in the ground
8:09 Looks like someone's trying to manage SOTA with smoke signals on a point behind you. 🤪 Solid column though, so maybe the blanket burned....
I saw that after I had uploaded the video. If I was on the ball, I should have dropped the @SmokeSignalsRF logo up there. Thank you for watching 🌮🌮🌮
Not bad. I'll wait for the taller one.
I am not sure if the 10 feet is going to make a big difference when you are running portable. I am planning on getting the other one too when it becomes available.
Not a bad price. I'll hold for the taller onem
Thanks for watching. If you have questions or comments, drop them below.
What material those ferrites are made of?
The only key you need for ham radio is for a bank vault.
There is validity to that statement.
Take my money - case ordered. 😂
Nice find! 73 de Bill
Thanks for your content....i am currently working on a kit for hauling around to parks on my Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle. Not many potas near my qth in Sheridan,IN so i have to travel at least a little but worth every mile doing pota and riding the bike.....win/win.
Indeed....! I see Girls like that, everyday ! 👍😜
Great review, I ordered one befor the video was over. Thanks
Great case ! Bought one a few months ago when I found on Etsy. Absolutely the best protective case for any device I have ever found. Extremely well made!
Nice video, I would like to have seen you add more than 7 beads to see the result. Also adding beads to the opposite end of the cable as well
That was the first thing I got for my nanovna was a case for it. I found a small pouch someone recommended on Reddit and that's what stores my nanovna.
What time of day and band were you on? Congrats!
Just ordered it. I've needed something like this.
I am glad that was able to help you spend your money 🌮🌮🌮
I have printed so many of those case types for my ammo.
Printed in PLA. SMH
Damn it Tim, you are *not* supposed to be costing me money man! This case is too utilitarian to pass up.
I got a top secret encoded CW message that the designer might be working on something for the Tiny SA. 🌮🌮🌮
Thanks for the "re-boxing" video! Just a couple days ago I ran across this on Etsy and added it to my favorites. I'm going to move it to my cart!
I definitely think it’s a good value.
It all falls apart when you reach the magnets 😧 I avoid unnecessary use of magnets as there a big no no if you like to wear automatic watches
As one who has a decent amount of 3d printing experience capable of replicating this I still think it's worth spending the $20 rather than spend the time designing and dialing in all the features there, and to source the pins and dinguses for a one-off project.
Sometimes you have more money than time. This was one of those times for me. There always a good case for not recreating the wheel.
Agreed. Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should.
Fantastic case! I carry my NanoVNA & TinySA Ultra in a Maxpedition Beefy pouch. The inside back has two main straps each that fit the VNA and spectrum analyzer PERFECTLY, and the rest of the pouch holds all the cables. I carry a tiny zippered mesh bag with the open load short -- you can find replacements easily if you lose them, ask me how I know... Then I have a second Beefy for a field solder kit... but I digress
Great idea! It would be nice to have one for the Tiny SA Ultra as well. 73
As I was reading some of the comments I was thinking the same thing.
I’ve had a lot of requests for this. I think it’s time I gave in and made a case for the TinySA Ultra.
@jaredwellman1523 I was going to reach out to you about this. Do you already have a TinySA to model with?
@@GraymanPOTA I have the "TinySA" but not the Ultra. I've considered making a different divider to hold the TinySA in the same case size as the NanoVNA case that I sell. The Ultra is larger so it will need a larger overall case. Going to pick up an Ultra today. I'm a little buried in orders :-) thanks again!
@jaredwellman1523 getting buried with orders is a good problem to have 🌮🌮🌮. It is a running joke with some of the hamtubers making sure that there is sufficient stock of a product before they review it in a video or livestream.
Thank you for supporting my shop and for the wonderful video review! I grew tired of storing my NanoVNA in a ziplock bag and needed something better so I designed this case!
You are so welcome!
I just got my case! Very good quality and very satisfied with my oder. When I get a chance, I'll buy another one.
@@robertengel8342 Thank you for the great feedback. Could you do me a big favor, and swing back by the product page and leave a review?
I'd rather just buy the item you're reviewing than try to make it myself. I figure it'll be cheaper in the long run.
I've been trying to find something like this for a while now. Thank you, thank you. FYI you can get your call sign customized.Cheers 73
🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
These are very nice. I have purchased two of these and for the price, they exceeded my expectations. I have had a lot of good luck buy off of Etsy. Thanks for the review. 73
I agree for the price the quality exceeds my expectations. I regularly check Etsy for ham made products, sometimes something will grab your attention.
If you have any questions or comments drop them below 🌮🌮🌮
I would like to about the 11 meter band and how many and where to put them..
Good Day & Thank You.
Just burned this img to an sd card. I have to say this is extremely slow to boot compared to pi-star. Running on a pi zero w 1 gen.
I believe that is a single core board. It will run, but they recommend a minimum of a four core board like the Pi Zero 2W
Because of the amount of people who swear by chokes, I feel like I must be wrong - BUT...... You send voltage up the coax which results in a current which drives the antenna. If the antenna / feeder is right, there will be no common mode current, and if the antenna / feeder is "wrong" there is likely to be common mode current. Isn't it the case that a choke is totally relying on the fact that it is an awful transformer, with nothing to couple the energy to, which then results in heating in the core? The heating doesn't come for free - that is your radio output power being used to heat a lump of ferrite. If you have a fixed antenna that is "not quite right" but you are prepared to accept this, and you ALSO have trouble with the resultant common mode current causing interference in the shack, I can see how a choke would stop the interference, but that is ALL it does. What the choke does not do (and this is what I feel is missing from most demonstrations) is turn a non-ideal antenna with current problems into a well functioning antenna. The current that should have manifested as RF power from the antenna is simply wasted as heating power instead. Again - it could be that you live with some restrictions. Maybe your garden is only a certain length. Maybe you have limited mobility and a friend helped you erect the antenna 10 years ago. Maybe you hid a wire in a flagpole which is now set in concrete. Whatever the reason, you end up with a non-ideal antenna / feeder arrangement that returns current to the shack. A choke of any kind simply burns off the current as heat to stop it from ending up in the shack. No?
If you use a non balanced feed line you are creating the conditions to prevent the differential mode current from canceling out the magnetic field that carries common mode current back to the radio.
I have a flagpole mount on the ladder for our RV trailer. If I bought this antenna, would it work for me to hang the radials about four feet down from the bottom of the flag pole mount and out from there on the ground? We boondock in NV and the ground turns into concrete in the summer. 😉
I have never tried elevating the antenna nor the radials before. I was talking with Chris from Buddipole about the buddistick, which is an elevated vertical with a single elevated radial and they find that by elevating the antenna and radial, they get great performance. It is always worth a try. You might see some performance/ elevated SWR issues with the antenna being too close to the RV, but if the majority of the antenna above the feed point is above the RV, then it may not matter. On a side note, you will need to reconfigure and or adjust the variable inductance coil for different bands to get a good SWR match. That might become harder the further away from the ground the antenna is mounted.
Find a deal on a 50H Bird slug! The darn things are like an alimony payment! 😅 Have fun! 73 de KF4LBG
For some reason I thought I heard "The Bronco is loaded, and so am I !" 😂
That is always a possibility.
Nice to see the outdoor satellite operation by the Digital Rancher. I am a different type of 'lazy' indoor operator. I use my IC 2730 dual bander full duplex radio and homebrew Moxon Yagi just outside my shack, on the balcony. I keep it at a low fixed elevation and point it in the direction of maximum elevation azimuth just prior to the satellite pass. That way I can cover four minutes of a pass. I do the Doppler tuning manually using Argentinian Amsat satellite pass webpage displayed on my mobile phone during the pass. 73 de Jon, VU2JO
I am not going to lie, I am coping @digital.rancher setup. There is no reason to recreate the wheel on this one.
@@GraymanPOTA Of course @digital.rancher setup is the most popular way for satellite operations and probably the least expensive also. Moreover the whole pass can be covered and some lucky ones get direct astronaut contacts as well. 73
If you have any questions or comments, drop a link below. If you are interested in learning more about using amateur radio satellites, make sure to follow Rob's RUclips channel youtube.com/@digital.rancher
Great video! 🙌🏼
Thank you, but @digital.rancher was the star of the show 🌮🌮🌮
So why did they use 3/8 x 20 threads instead of the fairly standard 3/8 x 24 threads on all their stuff. Now it is incompatible with all my other coils and whips. Very stupid ... cant even use it on my mag mounts ... sending it back for refund as all my mounts are 3/8 x 24 thread.

THAT USING DIY FERRITE BEAD COIL ANTENNA BOOSTER
You skipped over the exact thing I watched this video for, the DMR config. I think one reason you weren't seeing any change when you selected the DMR management tab is because you skipped some config. Once you enable DRM in the config page and save, you must go back to that same config page. Now, under the OLED screen config you will see new options to set up stuff like your hotspot security key.
