Nice job!
Hi,, what watch are you wearing?
@@mateuszcelmer6180 it’s the Filson Mackinaw field watch that they did with Shinola a few years back. Great watch.
Dang, that thing is huge for me... lol.... gorgeous but huge. Lol
Good to see yellow pine and hand tools being used. Good job on the bench. Thanks for sharing,
The bench series was awesome, and this is a fantastic addition! Great idea, execution, and video👏 Thank you so much for sharing 🙏
Still building out and prepping my workshop so I can build this badass mofo and get to work! And following the books layout is pretty sweet. Nice job. Thanks for posting this!
Nice work, man👌 I'm just getting into hand tool woodworking, and really want to make a nice home for my friends. Glad a ran across this series of videos. Can wait till the end🤘
How come use yellow pine? Surely other harder better timbers for the top?
I'm going to have to refer you to the book on this one. After a few years, the resin in the pine hardens so much as to seem like a hardwood.
@anarcholeptic that makes sense. Thanks for your response
great project with tools I understand
Are you finding the French tool rack useful?
Nice!
This is great but the prices are nowhere near that now. Where did you source them please?
@@GeorgiaTexan Good point, I should probably change the title… Menards. Local big box chain.
why not send the three parts through the thickness planer before you glue them together?
@@jayelwin I’m doubtful I could’ve done it with that little planer solo
Oof that blowout 8 minutes in. Sucks
I came over from Tally Ho. Not often to see craftsmen primarily hand tools. The dovetails look amazing. Good luck and I'm subbing.
@@jerryrigsit5400 thanks!
what wood are yo using?
@@ntyhurst pine, mostly Arriata I believe
Rlly nice work. Question for you. Unless im mistaken it looks like you used 3/4" boards for the tool chest. Did you/do you have any issues w final build? I ask because thats maybe only thing holding me back on making this. Difficult to find 1in boards of lightweight wood for this build and have access to alot of 3/4" pine. Also if you already answered this im sorry for asking again. Thanks!
@@contra81 yes, I used 3/4. I’ve had a couple little issues as the wood moved with the seasons, nothing a little persuasion or sandpaper can’t fix.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing the list of bits, and … I understand if you felt frustrated at times, as I can absolutely relate. Im a newbie and there’s so much to learn!
Seems like that hand saw needs sharpening it should get through a 2x4 in 3 to 5 full strokes nice job on a good solid work bench
Really cool build, might try making a swing arm for my roller seat. Wont look as nice but then I'll have adjustable height.
12:11 also watched parts 1 and 2.

My version ruclips.net/video/HOWfU2speNw/видео.htmlsi=_m4FsaRrGthtvObv
Just outstanding sir
Love the stool
I like how you use your tool's
I know Chris said something about just shooting a few pin nails into the pieces you laminate to hold them in place and then tightening down the clamps.. I don’t know if I could make myself do it, but it’s an interesting thought.
I've heard you can also sprinkle a pinch of sand or salt into the glue, makes adjusting it harder but it largely stops moving once it's got a little pressure.
Nice series. Particularly like that you didn't use a bench to build your bench! You see that on so many bench making videos - impossible for those of us building our first!
Saw horses and some extra 2x12x8's is what I am using lol
Looks great! Can I ask what made you decide not to drawbore the base to the top? Enjoyed the content!
I wanted to be able to separate them in case I moved shops, but the fit was tight enough that it’s basically one piece now anyway. Thanks for watching!
Found you from Sampson link. Nice work!
What an excellent workbench well thought out, good use of easy obtainable materials. We’ll definitely be building this once workshop is completed. Thanks for sharing this , too man.👍👍
Beautiful bench. I'm so glad that you recorded the build. After reading the book it's just a cherry on top of the whole story. I'm going to build it too, when I get a workshop 😉
Very good table for the money. Pinched myself a couple of times but it was probably my fault for not paying attention.
Great product. Easy to carry, setup, very sturdy and easy toctake down. Worth the extra couple of dollars.
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
I get tired of this being touted as the beginner's workbench. It's more like the carpenter turning into a woodworker's workbench.
I have read the book and watched the video. I dont have a planer or joiner with me. I have an electic handheld planer but the book says to mill the pieces ro 1.25 inches. I see that you milled them but later used a hand plane. Did this reduce the thickness? Also if i dont have a planer is it an option to go to a milling place and get the wood milled to 1.25 inches?
Nice, I plan to build one too.
Coment for the algo.
Instead of tapping a screw in your piece, two pieces of blue tape (one on your piece, covered in CA glue and one that has the shank attached, blue tape covered in activator) makes a great workhold for a makeshift lathe without having to screw into your part. The CA combo adheres the dry side of the blue tape, and blue tape is somehow strong enough to hold on until you're ready to peel them off.
Thanks for sharing. Simple but great looking and I'd love to usd a bench like this.
Great job, I love the bench
7:35 This operation might be done faster by chiseling down into the kerfs to break out large pieces, possibly even starting at the back kerf. Then you can clean up as shown.
Wow, my Menards cart today (4/16/2023) for these same parts is $112.06.
That’s crazy, only 2 1/4 years difference.
enough to make only one?@@anarcholeptic
Just got back from Menards today (1/11/2025), and I got all the parts for 62.06. All STZ Industries parts. Crazy to think that 2 almost 2 years the price of the parts went down basically half of what they were years ago.
Which tape measure did you have?
I have a couple, but it’s either a fastcap lay flat or a Milwaukee.
Arrrr, the face vise! It needs to be inline with the bench, so you can take a big panel and clamp it in face vise, along the entire bench, and pin it on the right leg. That's the point of those dog holes on the leg in the first place. You should really make a recess in the bench to fit the vise in, if you are going to go with this type that has metal plate on the "inside". Otherwise it's an amazing build!
I actually did do this eventually, you’re absolutely right.
@@anarcholeptic nice! Sorry if I sounded like a ass, re-reading my comment and it sounds a bit aggressive :D
I noticed your spray bottle of dihydrogen monoxide. So few woodworkers know the secrets of using it. Pro tip: if you get thirsty while woodworking, you can actually drink that stuff, and it hydrates you faster than anything else!
Also great for getting dirt and grime off!
Awesome dude. I will try this!!!
I enjoy woodworking, but I'm not sitting on wood lol
I love your build! This is the bench I’m gonna build, and you did it the way I want to do it. How many board feet did you get?
Thanks for the support! I don’t recall the exact number, but some quick math says it should be in the ballpark of 85 board feet, nominal.
Solid!
