The Motorcycle Maiden
Добавлен 28 мар 2012
Have no FEAR this old gal is still here...Inspiring older women to not give up on riding.
Its been over a year since I made a video. I know I know, it's embarrassing. So many things have happened since then. June 9th I think was the last video I made about possibly giving up on riding. I spent this past weekend (9/20) in Santa Barbara. I'll explain everything on the next video (this is my teaser). I recorded some of my riding at Babes Ride Out Central Coast on my new Insta 360 and I'm figuring out on the "how- tos" of editing. Don't give up on me as I wont give up on you. Sorry about the audio.
Thanks for watching, I truly appreciate it.

@themotorcyclemaiden9162 espaciadores? Arandelas de goma sirven?
@ yes
I have installed the puig 9462 but the cowl I had to remove it because it didn't fit. What changes did you make? Didn't you put the spacers on the fork?thankyou
@@robertopiermartiri1929 hi Roberto, thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment. So initially as you see in the video, we had taken the cowl off to install the windshield, but I didn’t like the way it looked. So we took the windshield off put the cowl back on and then put the windshield back on, but it is a very very tight fit. The spacers are on the forks.
@ thank you very much . I understand the problem my puig is the new model “Gen 2 “ it has 1 additional arm on the bracket that reaches under the fork to prevent it bending back in the wind..I ll go to an expert to get it fixed .
@ wishing you the best.
Would have been nice to mention the size of the Hex used for the top bolt
@@rahrah1214 you’re absolutely right.
Just installed the 9462F variant of this windscreen, perfect fit with the cowl on the 2024 Rebel. Left the cowl on during install, no need to remove it. Just the 2 bolts on the top side of the forks. Super easy install. Thank you.
Im 67 and going on lol just purchased the CF Moto 450cc MT. Im so bloody excited! Havent riden a 2 wheeler since 1978! I lost my husband/best freind less than 12 months ago, this change in direction is to keep family at a distance because they have seriously distorted views on healthy aging and what I should do! If I can still live and work on my isolated property in the outback without their help. Riding aventures with old and new friends seems like the best rewards for a lifetime of hardwork. Thank you for confirming age is but a number, your health is everything and gives you many choices, ride on! ❤
Ain't that the TRUTH!!! I'm so happy to hear that your not going to let being older in life stop you from living. Believe you me I can't wait to share my thoughts and what is was liking taking the bull by the horns!

This video is amazing, exactly what I feel and need as I am going through exactly the same stage of my riding learning curve on exactly the same bike with exactly the same thoughts! ❤
@@alexandermikhailov2481 Hey, thanks for watching the video and commenting. I truly appreciate it. At one point or another we all go through the same thing it’s how we push forward through it that gets us to the end goal, which is riding with confidence.
Liked the video. Was wondering if the dent on the gas tank was made before or after the engine guard was installed
Hey Carlos, Good catch, yes the dent on the tank was made after the guard was installed. We had installed risers to bring the handlebars closer to me however we didn't (I guess) really tighten them down and so as I was riding the handlebars became loose and rolled from under me (closer to the tank) that's how the tank got dented.

@@747Traveller Hey Traveller 👋 no I haven’t. But I probably should. Thanks for watching though 🙏
Thanks for the video! Do you feel like this windshield really helps deflect the wind? I don’t really like the look of a windshield on a rebel. I can’t decide if it’s worth adding it or not.
@@fatimaais7494 well honestly, I have it off right now because it’s rubbing against the covering over the headlight. And it also depends on your height when you’re sitting on the seat. My daughter took the bike out last month and she is taller than me and she felt it buffering at the top of her helmet, so she would scoot down to not have that feeling.

I think you got this. The sportster is just a bit faster and a bit heavier.Give it some more time you will get used to it.Go to an empty parking lot and practice so you can get used to the weight and torque also the friction zone.

Great video. Nice looking bike. I really like what you have done to it
Hey johnnnymader, thank you so much for,I really appreciate it 🙏
being over cautious will keep you alive. if your too hot, take off your gloves. crack your visor 1/2 inch, you can take your jacket off, if you dont have a place to store it, you can fold it a bit, lay it over the seat behind you and sit on it with the back part of your butt. carry bungie cords for times like this. a hi vis vest is a great idea. you can buy them from home improvement stores for around $10. well worth the investment. ive been riding for over 50 years. allways wear your helmet. i enjoyed the video.
Hey dwightgaskins, thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. I now packed bungee cord with zip ties. I bought a high vis vest from work world. It’s a little bit on the sloppy looking side but at this point it doesn’t matter I’d rather be safe than sorry. I also bought an armored shirt which has protection in the back chest, shoulders and elbows. Much cooler than wearing a leather jacket for sure, but still giving me protection I need.
Thank you so much for posting this video. Did you have to remove the cowl to install the windshield? You did in the video, but I'm not sure how you got it back on
Hey noelled2918, we did remove the cowl at first but I didn’t like how it looked. So all I did was remove just the windshield, kept the hardware on. Put the cowl back on very carefully then put the windshield back on to the brackets. It’s a very tight fit but it will go on. You might have to fiddle with it for a bit. Hope that helps. Hey, thanks for watching my video, I really appreciate it.
Thank you!!!! <3@@themotorcyclemaiden9162
I am a 71 yr old 57 yr rider. I am not a hater. Glad to see a rider. First...either pray for God's help or curse. Doing both doesn't work. Riding isn't a soap opera. I have seen only 3 of your videos. You are making the same mistakes over and over. That doesn't translate into becoming proficient. Your situational awareness is terrible for a two or three year rider. NEVER pass a van on the side in an intersection. People try to beat vehicles by turning across in a left turn. They can't see you so you die. You seem to depend way too much on others. Ride like you are invisible and naked. I wish we could talk on the phone. You would like me. Women like me. Ask my wife of 47 yrs. I live in Northeast Mississippi. If you can, contact me. Otherwise watch Moto Jitsu, MC Rider, Jerry Palladino. Hire someone tough to teach you how to ride. Not your daughter. You are manipulating you controls, so that is a start. Spend some money on a REAL mc teacher. I am not angry. I don't want you to die. Not everyone can ride. There is no shame in quitting if it's not for you. You need a teacher to get you out of your head. You are your own worst enemy. I wish you the best.
I'm glad that you were able to start riding. I hope that you still are. Don't turn the engine off, with the key. Use the button. You turn the battery off, with the key.
Hey Ray, thank you for that tip, haven’t even thought about that. Any advice is always helpful. Thank you 🙏
@@themotorcyclemaiden9162, You're very welcome.
It is so exciting to see women getting into ridding. Here some suggestion from a 73 year old guy. When you come to a stop only put your left foot and keep your right foot on the rear brake so you don't roll back words. If that is a little scary find a open parking lot and practice doing it there. I don't know how many other women you might follow on RUclips but here is some that might be helpful. Check out Doodle on a bike or As The Magpie Fly's or Jerry Paladino or MCrider or Moto Jitsu these last three are instructors that have books you can buy with exercises to practice. One more good one is Dan Dan The Fireman. For the heat you can buy mesh Jackets and wear a cooling vest that you soak in water and put on under the jacket. Keep ridding and enjoy!
Hey Johnpagejr, thanks for your advice and I appreciate you watching my video. It has been a long while since this video was first recorded and put on RUclips. I stepped away from riding for almost a year, but I’m back on the bike again and doing better than ever. I watch all the people that you mentioned and even bought jujitsu‘s book. And I’ve actually watched the full video of twist of the wrist. They have all been so helpful to me. Thank you again for your advice. 🙏❤️

Tnx for sharing this. Been wanting to keep my cowl as well
My wife started riding street bikes two years ago at 58 and is doing great. To anyone going through this phase in riding. Don't be discouraged. Take the course again if you feel like you might benefit from it. Then, stay in that parking lot until everything is automatic, requiring no thought to make the bike go wherever you want it to go, no thought to leaning into a turn, and learn hard braking in a parking lot first! This will take most of the fear away. Then, get out in the street only after mastering the bike and listening to good information like Jerry Palladino and McRider on RUclips. These guys could save your life. I have about 80,000 miles on street bikes. I thought I was a decent rider, but I learned so much from them! It's always good to have one, and only one experienced rider with communication at first, so situations can be talked about while riding. I did this with my wife when she started. Now we both call traffic out, reminding each other of the danger points the other may not think about... so she talks a lot LOL. My wife and I have never had so much fun together. Funny thing, when she got her endorsement, of all the GUYS there, she did the best on the riding test and most of them were on smaller bikes than she was LOL!
Hey, praying is always good! I like it! You are an inspiration to my wife who started riding almost two years ago on a Vulcan S, Another fantastic bike to learn on and stay on after the learning. She has now had a Vulcan S, Honda VTX 1300, KLR 650, and her favorite, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. We're getting into Adventure riding. All her riding, about 8,000 miles in two years. She has really found motorcycling a release, and mental exercise and enjoys it so much! She has done a lot of parking lot practice and has had a lot of fun doing it. You can't do too much parking lot practice. She's to the point she can scrape the pegs whenever she wants, yankin' and bankin', practicing hard braking... LOL. I'm so proud of her! Not many better teachers out there than Jerry Palladino and McRider. Watch their videos for great pointers and training we all need to do if we're going to keep the greasy side down. You won't hate turns anymore and it makes those parking lot maneuvers easy. Your videos are good! I hope you start again. There may not be a lot of subscribers, but the people that are, really appreciate it!
Omg…thank you so much for sharing her story with me. her story is now an inspiration for me. I haven’t been on my bike in about eight months I’m sad to say. I’ve had a few physical injuries, and somehow have lost my way along the way. But this is a new year and I’m hoping to start over again. I’ve been mostly focusing on my little side passion which is repurposing jewelry on motorcycle license plate frame. I wanted to do something that was just for women when it comes to motorcycles. Finally opened a small little Etsy shop so my focus has been there. But when I read stories like this one, it makes me want to get back in the saddle. I feel like I gotta start from scratch again, but I know once I get going I’ll be just fine. Sidenote: i’m not concerned with gaining followers. This is just the way that in the years to come and I’m no longer here, my kids will one day look at these videos and say look at mom did…and that’s good enough for me. 🙏
Thank you for sharing your experience and your honesty, I have only been riding for 3 months and always get butterflies in my stomach every time I ride! I picked my Rebel 500 up from the dealership yesterday and boy was I nervous on that first ride home 😅
Hey Brad, truth be told I haven’t been on the bike in months, like I think last count was six months! I’ve had a lot of little physical injuries. This year I’m on the tail end of feeling so I’m excited to get back on the bike and start making some new videos as the weather permits. Thanks for watching the video and thanks for leaving a comment, I really appreciate that.🙏
I love the video. I think it feels more relatable than a lot of the other motorvlogs. But the countersteering part took me awhile to get. Push right go right, push left go left. It's like that cause while you're moving and have power to the engine, when you push left itll turn the bars slightly right but the axis of the motorcycle when given power, wants to keep itself up and balance itself so it like goes left even though it turned your bars the opposite way at first.
Hey alecmachovoe5142, thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment. I really appreciate that. You know the older you get the more easy and simpler. It is just to be yourself. You got to do it like it is. 😝

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing! I’m in my late 50’s so understand the nerves 😬 New to this myself, so here is my top 10, so hope it helps others: Bike Practice: Top 10 Tips 1. Clutch control: release slowly to find engine grip starting to apply drive to rear tire. Practice slow driving and balancing of bike by letting out clutch just enough for maintaining motion; Learn balance point of your bike (handy if ever in slow moving traffic); 2. Figure of eight turns: practice slow figure of eights using only light breaking; Alternate clock wise then anti clock wise; Learn U- Turns this way by being able to handle the bike in small turns; 3. Emergency stops: do slow speed fast stops; practice practice practice with increasing speed and try to shorten stopping distance; Learn to use front break (squeeze) and back break (light pump) as not to lock breaks. Learn you break capacity and control; 4. Counter steer: practice to avoid obstacles; slower speeds to increased speeds till comfortable with how much pressure to apply (Push right/Go left). 5. Intersection short and long turns: practise to steer bike where you look (want to go); Short turns in Oz is into left lane; Long turns could be across say two lanes to turn right; REMEMBER: Look where you want to go; 6. Curvy roads: build up confidence to lean the bike; approach corners slowly, off throttle, squeezing front break early before corner if you need to slow down; then only start to apply throttle when you can see the clear exit; watch out for bikes/cars wanting to pass; 7. Stop in 1st gear: practice to stop in 1st gear and left foot down (REMEMBER: keep eyes out for rear enders, so plan escape path when approaching intersection); Stop to left or right of car in front of you (NEVER directly behind); 8. Scanning ahead: Learn to scan ahead and tell yourself the obstacles you see out loud; repeat till you know you can see issues/obstacles/idiot drivers; Scan where you are going and back (could be squirrel in road!); 9. Parking: Rear end in! In our neighbourhood most cars park rear in (law in town); Practice walking bike in towards pavement; Have bike in 1st and clutch in; Use kill-switch and or Kick stand to park bike (in 1st gear); 10. Gears and downshift: This will come with time how smooth you do this, but practice in an empty car park shifting up and down; It can become muscle memory if you do it enough.
Hey Karooseun45, I appreciate this info. I’ve actually written this down. Thank you for watching my video.
What a lovely video. I enjoyed every minute . I am an 84 year old guy in the UK . I have the same bike in black . Super little bikes and so comfortable. I have owned many bikes but the Rebel is my favourite . Wonder if you still own it . Harleys are great bikes but now at my age , too much of a handfull . The Rebel suits me fine . Best wishes from Thomas .
