Freedom Arms versus Magnum Research BFR vrs new model Ruger Blackhawk (and an Old Model/ 3 screw)
I feel the shoulders. Mine are blown out.
man....let me tell you.... i am just a smidge over 1 year since i started. i couldn't sleep, i couldn't do anything without being constantly in pain. i was sure i was going to have to have surgery. right now, i will tell you i am 99% of what i was normally. give it a try....don't expect it to be pain free. i will tell you, i did see a little, small, but still some benefit within the first month. let me know how it goes!
just to add....i fixed my shoulders....i did a video on how. pretty simple, and it wasn't overnight. but one year later, by God it worked!!!
@ can’t fix diabetic frozen shoulder.
38-55
7-30 Waters is the next on my list. As for as recoil, the Van Horn 28 Guage is a handful and my Gonic GA-90 45 caliber muzzleloader is a handful especially with heavier bullets.
i absolutely LOVE the 7-30. my uncle was a rifleman, and he turned me onto the waters. it's the best one out there.
Don’t know why Rob did that. Unfamiliarity. But he was used to more modern actions and made assumptions he shouldn't have.
I have a G2 Contender with a 10" 7-30 Waters barrel. It had the muzzle tamer at the business end but I had it milled off. The muzzle blast was ferocious not just in noise but in the felt blast itself as it directed it 360°. It had no muzzle flip but recoiled straight back and they have a reputation for wrecking scopes so off it came. It is still pretty loud and recoils quite significantly but is manageable. The best thing is it is wicked accurate. The smith who removed the tamer did a great job by not disturbing the muzzle crown. I don't reload so stocked up on Federal factory ammo when it was available and suffer with the flat nosed bullets. I don't hunt with it too much anymore as at 76 years old its a bit much and my 44 magnums are about my limit. I do have a 30-30 carbine barrel and convert it to rifle configuration with a beautiful Bishop laminate stock occasionally. Got a nice 8 pointer last year with it. Great video by the way. Minute of deer at 100 yards gets it done all day long.
The muzzle blast on the short 3030 and the 7/30 is real! It’ll make you pee your pants and forget your name for a few seconds! I stick with. A minimum of 14 inches!
How's the sight picture? Looks like that tube would obscure a good bit of foreground. The whole benefit of a dot optic is that you can see all of what you're aiming at.
There is a line where the window stops that creates a blurred edge. With both eyes open, that is pretty much a non-issue. I didn’t find it to inhibit hits. The steel gongs i was shooting ranged in size from 3 inches to 8. Hits were right where i wanted them, every bit as accurate as i was doing with the red dot. It is indeed a smidge different; but you are effectively doing the same thing a slightly different way.
@myronman3 Neat. I'm always curious about how things look to the user because it's so hard to show well with a camera, especially with the restrictions on what you can film on here. Might pick up something like this for my Mossy.
they have them on sale for chrismas for 89 bucks i think. Lmk if you want me to get you the promi code they emailed me
Your .44 Special Blackhawk is a flat top! Very desirable :)
It is indeed. Lipsey’s is doing a run of 41 magnums flat top….and it is the smaller frame size
@ I saw. Brian Pearce announced it on his channel. It’s temping but between my .357 and .44 Magnum Blackhawks, I just don’t know what I would do with it.
I am glad that TC corrected that with the Encore
I love my .44 mag 7.5" Ruger SBH. It's not the best finished out of the box, but the price reflects that. I got mine barely used for $500 (1985 production). I bought an oversized cylinder pin to tighten up the cylinder rotation, did a trigger job by lightly polishing up the internals, then installed a lighter trigger spring and a heavier mainspring (lighter trigger, crisper break, reduced lock-time), and put a big Hogue monogrip on it. The action is now just as nice as my buddy's .500 Mag BFR's minus slightly tighter lockup. I expect that a Freedom Arms would be head-and-shoulders above both and would love to have one, but I can't justify $3k on a revolver right now.
My favorite is the ruger 44 new model i have. Why? Because i did the work on it myself. Filing in the front sight dovetail by hand, fitting the ivory front sight, fitting the rear v sight, the trigger polishing, fitting the elk horn grips, and fitting the bisley hammer to it. No, it’s no freedom arms. I shoot it as good as my model 97 though. And even though that 97 is worth three times as much, i am proud of what i accomplished with that revolver. It is a piece of me. Enjoy that blackhawk. And make it your own!
I love the sound of Freedom Arms when you pull back the tap. Sounds so precise and of high quality.
Love the ones I own but need this 22 set up. Loved the dogs and video.
@@skycop3855 just another day around here. i've had all kinds of calibers, and the 22 is one of the funnest barrels there is. :)
I have a 338 jdj, really accurate but you'll definitely want a muzzle break
She ran 40 yards….stood there for 4 seconds and topped over stone dead.
Looked like a good shot, did you get her?
Oh yeah. Through the bottom of the heart and out through the her breastplate. The breastplate cartilage sealed up and i didnt get a lot of blood as a result….but she only ran 50 yards and tipped over; which i watched from my stand. About 5 seconds from start to finish.
@myronman3 nice job! I just shot a buck the other night (my latest video), ran about 60yd and crashed. Always a great feeling!
Wad he say, I say, wad he say
The need to open the barrel seems like a huge design flaw
2:29 am Dear sir. Are you going to mark the Thompson Center pistol Again. And When will it be ready to buy
Very good video!!
Have never known a new Blackhawk. 3 hundred and fifty dollars, that's b*******
Where did i say a NEW blackhawk? i said a New MODEL blackhawk. Details buddy, details.
Nice set up.
I love TC Contenders, however a weak hammer sear spring can create a unpredictable hammer. If the gun if very dirty it can be even worse. Clean and replace spring… good to go.
I should add, a hammer slipping off the hammer sear would hit the hammer block without a trigger pull.
I had a T/C carbine 7/30 waters. Unfortunately it was stolen.
That is terrible!!! I really hate to hear that.
Thanks for this info and demo. I'm on the hunt for an Encore, and this part of the usage has eluded me in my research. :D
You are in luck then! Thompson Center has been bought from smith and wesson and is soon to be back in production. Btw- this video does NOT apply to encores. I believe that G2 contenders are different as well.
@myronman3 Indeed. I'm pretty eager to see how the brand's revival plays out. I don't know if I'll be able to hold out for the new Encore release, but I'll do more research in the meantime.
Exceptional firearm. I've owned and hunted Every year with it since 1983. It is very safe, Very Accurate and it will Not go off "by itself". Human error if it goes off.
You are the MAN Paul! I admire your commitment and dedication! What’s your preferred caliber?
I have 22lr, 357, 44 mag 45/ 410 and 22 hornet barrels and 2 frames. Great gun. Glad to see them coming back to life.
I was waiting to see how you released the tension on the ratchet strap without it going pop.
You just back the ratchet off slowly. It works like a charm
Sorry, but how to back the Ratchet off slowly ? There is a lot of tension. Can you show how you do ? Thank you.
I am in the process of manufacturing a single-shot Kalashnikov pistol😅
True and thank you very on sharing this
so hilarious 😂😅
Good info for Novice Contender Handlers. all men may be created equal in the Eyes of the Lord yet we all have differing abities, Stay Focused when handling fire arms & Stay Safe.
I have a 10 inch model 83 in 454 and the same size super Blackhawk in 44, and a 686 -2 in 357. No one comes close to the quality and finish of a freedom arms. They make phenomenal revolvers
Good information! My Contender is the same as yours , I read that in their book first ! It’s not a problem , only a few minutes to understand how it functions!
Right on! The internet “experts” need to completely understand the mechanism they are using
Nice overview. Thank you.
Incrível essa crosbows! Um sonho de consumo
Great video. Just got my first Contender and it took me all of 10 minutes to get familiar with its workings. Mine does not have the hammer mounted safety however. So loaded pull trigger go boom. Empty no boom. Simple.
I’ve never handled a BFR. I’ve owned a Ruger Super Blackhawk, and I’ve handled and shot a Freedom Arms 83. The Ruger feels like a very solid gun that is tight and well put together. The Freedom Arms feels like a bank vault. The tolerances are so close, it makes the Ruger look like it’s made with giant gaps-and it is. As much as I like the Ruger, there is no comparison.
Standard Manufacturing makes some pretty dang great Single actions also! I love their color case hardened ones. Unfortunately they are a tad out my range so I have the Blackhawk convertibles 357/9mm and 45Lc/ACP. 🤷♂️👍🏻😏
I love waiting for the right shot but this puritan single shot communtiy refuses to acknowledge the advantage to a few extra rounds.
it depends on what your goal is. hit multiple things as quick as possible? a single shot would be a poor choice. i have had plenty of repeating rifles. i choose a single shot because that's all i've needed. didnt matter if i had a magazine that held 5 or 1. single shots are often times works of art. and they are a valuable learning tool. they are also quite helpful in making a box of ammo last MUCH longer. as to what an individual chooses to use, that is their decision. i am putting out info on this on the chance someone is curious. happy shooting and stay safe!

to be completely honest those rifle caliber pistols are just about worthless they mave some use as a back up or side arm but as primary weapon taking for taking game theyre worthless ive seen jack wagons trying to hunt with em on public land before but i never seen them actually take game with em but i always hear them fire and then here some lame excuse for missing the deer now a days i limit my hunting to solely on my fiances property we dont allow but two others to hunt the property and they dont use those goofy rifle caliber hand guns they laugh at em just as i do WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMMENTS
Completely depends on the person using them. A quick search on youtube will yield a plethora of videos with people enjoying great success with contenders and encores. I will agree that as far as handguns go, it is easier to carry a rifle than one of these. I prefer revolvers (most times) myself.
Lol thats a bird sacrum i believe but its definitely a bird and not a skull.
I believe that you are correct!
Surprisingly that is a part of the back on a turkey
Interesting. Iv deer hunted with one some and just got a 410 barrel for turkey season. Mine doesn't have the safty.. i never had any issues. I didn't know breaking the barrel would drop the hammer i never tried it. I always just get a firm thumb grip on the hammer and lower it. But on mine you don't actually don't have to open the gun to recock. Just pull the lever back that opens it and don't open the barrel and you can recock.
Awwww cute
I think that guy might have a screw loose… lol
Well done!
Nice video of a great pistol. I will never forgive Smith & Wesson for destroying Thompson Center personally. There is now a company making the TC frames (recievers) and barrels and even has grips and forends again. They even have a pistol grip with a folding stock! Look up SSK-50 reciever/frame from SSKfirearms and also Haus of Arms is their dealer FWIW. There is also CVA making this same style of single shot break open pistol and rifles that is owned by the same folks as Bergara Barrels in Spain. They do not have swappable barrels like TC did. but are extremely accurate and much, much, less expensive. I have been waiting for a SSK-50 for a year but I am about to buy a couple CVA pistols for about the same cost as 1 standard TC Contender type setup from Haus of Arms. Each new TC type barrel alone cost more than a entire CVA break open pistol which has excellent reviews and a lifetime warranty. The CVA pistols also seem to take the same TC style grips and possibly forends too. For the older, more obscure cartridges, the TC Contender and Encore is the only way to go though. I believe CVA pistols come in 204 Ruger, 6mm ARC, 223 Rem, 243 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300BLK, 350 legend, 44 Mag, 50 cal muzzleloader. The TC style CVA break open rifles also have 35 Whelen, 45-70 and 444 Marlin and 50 cal muzzleloader barreled models as well. Hope that helps some folks.
J.D. Jones has been in the contender/encore bidness a LONG time. He also developed a cartridge known as the 300 whisper- you all know it as the 300 blackout.
Greg Ritz, a previous CEO of T/C Arms has bought the rights to TC Arms and is starting T/C/Arms up again in Indiana. Should be up and running to some degree by early next year. Maybe some Encore barrels by Christmas.
I found it surprising that Freedom charges extra for their trigger work. I would still pay for it because of the quality of the Model - 97.
Love the brass on the coroner of the table 🤘 thanks for the video...i know what I'm doing tomorrow.
hopefully it helps ya!
