The SECRET To The PERFECT Cape Town Marathon Taper
Hi everyone A proper hill training plan for Two Oceans Ultra for me, is doing Constantia Nek twice starting from Constantia Village and coming down Southern Cross drive and back up again. It really builds your endurance. Trust me. I planning on doing a sub 4-hour this time out.
I’m form Zimbabwe 🇿🇼…looking forward to run 🏃♀️ comrades marathon 😅
Very good evening team Joining in from Chatsworth Durban I finished 18 comrades and I am still going to run Looking forward to this year run All the very best to all the runners Thanks team for your time Compliments to the comrades dedicated team Stanton Doc Pillay
From Zimbabwe. Looking forward to my back-to-back medal.
If I want to win can I use the program of silver medal?
I have ran 5 comrades 2011 to 2016 silver 2 billrowen 3
Mabonga from uganda.looking forward to doing my 1st comrades...
Joining from Soweto, Johannesburg. 2025 will be my very first
All the very best!! Enjoy your training
I have never run more than 45k ever and have completed 7 comrades all below 11hr and all in my late 50’s and early 60.
Thank you so much for this video and putting the long run into perspective. I was worried that I'm not running TO but I see that is actually better. I am doing BNAC 48km on 13 April, what would you recommend for my long run thereafter? I am aiming for a Bronze
Hamstring fairy 😂 😂
Really appreciate the content gents. I have a Q re the intensity of the Comrades training LR. I’ll be running my first Comrades this year and hoping for a silver. I recently ran a 2:49 marathon and have completed a few ultras up to 82km distance. For the 55km LR 5 weeks out, would you recommend doing that at goal comrades pace, or slightly quicker/slower and would you recommend incorporating hills with a similar elevation profile, or keeping to flat roads? Thanks for any advice you can provide 🙌🏻
I have not registered. Do I have chance to register for 2025?
Lookout for the substitution period in April
Do Shona's point advising against ice baths during training blocks also apply to cryotherapy?
Really helpful! Made so much sense and helps me to sensibly plan my 3 * 42k+ efforts - thank you!
Thank you guys so much. You calm my nerves every time. 😊 Jeandre' from Krugersdorp
Thank you for making my Mondays Its - 1 degrees out there Hoping to qualify next week in the cold ❄️
Thank you for this episode! I was worried about not running enough marathons or an ultra before Comrades. I live in Melbourne, qualified last year already, I’m not part of a club and there’s just not enough races here between now and June. This episode shifted my mindset, I don’t have to race, I’ll rather think of it as long runs and practice my strategy. Appreciate the work you put into the content. All the best from down under.
I am running a marathon this weekend the 9th Feb. What would you recommend for the taper then recovering for Two Oceans.
Normally would be a week before but I would give my body some rest after the marathon aswell like a day or 2 the slowly get back on to my running plan
Just a correction the Peninsula is next weekend the 16th - you had me worried for a minute 😅
I can't believe all this information is FREE! Thank you Shona, Lindsey & Mark for this trove of vital information 🎉
Oops, I've signed up for a half this weekend🤭...are you saying I can't run halfs till two oceans😭 I'm a regular runner and have done many halfs already.
Awesome, Hole in One ⛳️ 🏌🏾♀️ ❤👌🏽
It sounded like you advised against it, but is there a hill workout that can double as intervals. Your "jog down" 18:57 reference to hill training sounded very much like how I do those, but probably a little stronger uphill than what you explained there. I ask, because I try and only run a maximum of 4 days a week to prevent me getting fed-up with running.
Thank you for explaining the interval sessions comprehensively 🥇👌🏽
saw my butt in the second lap at Johnson Crane. not sure what went wrong. stuck to my plan and managed to biff it up. oh well.
A lot of people struggled on the day, you're not alone🤙
@@TheJakeStreamsame here😢😢run / walked after 32kms and only woke up again at 37 kms...
Is it alright to run half marathon with hills before half marathon of Baldwin
Walk breaks during a race are a game changer, sometimes almost feels like cheating. But I don't take them when training unless running over 35km.
Don't believe in running time! I've always run distance, back in the day, the formula for the long run is determined by distance!
6:30 - One can just imagine how fit some of the elites like Gerda Steyn are, if she uses races as training runs, when they come second in races like bay to bay, - mind blown!
Informative as usual. Thank you guys ❤❤
Great interview......and looking forward to the comedy that will flow from a Schalk Comrades experience.
9:54 I am a firm believer of the walk break. I use them on my walk breaks. I use them when I race. I am a Pace Setter and use them when I pace too. Strategic walk breaks are vital. I do them every 6KM's and they line up with an aid station. As a final point, I've run a 3:28 marathon and a sub 5 Oceans using run walk.
T my mase kind!!! What a great pacer
Thanks so much! Was wondering about the longest run and pacing. Thanks
I've used both strap and wrist HR monitoring, non are accurate. My heart runs on a different beat. 😀
Thanks coach! 💪
Hi. Jeandre' here from Krugersdorp. I am doing Johnsons Crane on Sunday to qualify for comrades. I'm 53 . Doing my 7th comrades. I don't do strength training the week before a Marathon. And I don't run for 3 days before the Marathon. Does that sound right?😊 I love your woman that run over 50 training plans.🎉
Saw coach Parry today in Jukskei in the morning, tried to greet but looks you didn't see me. You were with some guys chatting before you started your run.
Yes why do the hamstrings shrink when you get older 😅, I do strength and stretching and they are always an issue
Great interview hearing about more than Schalk, the runner, but about his work and life too. Great job, Brad!
Did my "Basic Strength Training for Runners" session today while listening to you guys. You soothe my nerves... But I had to up my target mileage from 1100km to +1200km for a 10hr medal on my second BigC.
For Long run, have registered for Om die Dam ultra and Two oceans Ultra. Is this enough long run? Target Bill Rowan.
Very much enough. I did the same last year.
@@Folks.CarpeDiem Thanks
I am targeting 8:50 comrades and have qualifying marathon planned for 25th January - want to go all out to qualify with C seeding. How many weeks do you recommend for recovery before going back to training.
Not your caliber runner, but have experience. After a run like that at least a "workweek" of complete rest with a very very easy get back into it run a week later and then feeling your way back in. The second week is also "active" rest. What I've seen is that after those two weeks I can quickly ramp (not jump, steep build up) to big mileage that would keep to the trajectory of marathon buildup, even with two weeks of rest.
But, CoachP is the coach, I'm just a weekend warrior.
Thanks Lindsay for all the advice, I got my first bronze medal last year following your podcasts and webinars and this year I'm going for my back to back.
Going for my back to back too in '25. Also did a bronze last year. Aiming for that glorious 10hrs for real now.

Sober advice from Lindsey 💯
20 Weeks of training left (145 days/7) = 20,7 with a bit of a rest in the last week ;)
