Aside from that one random F-Bomb and crotch grab, the original film is totally appropriate for kids 7 & older and is generally viewed as being a family film, so it's bizarre that the stage musical went the route of being of a full-blown PG-13 nature(I don't know why she said it was of an R nature, as it's not quite at that level from what I've been able to gather). If you remove the raunchy humor, dial down the number of uses of the word "shit"(obviously, any usage of even PG swear words would be omitted from a "jr" rendition), and remove Beetlejuice sniffing cocaine during the song 'The Whole "Being Dead" Thing', you have a show of a PG nature. You can tackle the subject of suicide in a way that doesn't go beyond the PG level. It's all in how you handle the subject matter. Also, outside of the line that references the movie 'Lolita', there's really nothing about the song 'Creepy Old Guy' that's "inappropriate".

im glad that this show will finally give much need opportunities for teen altos and baritones/basses who are usually dont get the chance to be leads because of their lower voices. but i think how well this show could be done really depends on the actors, it could either be really good or really bad. also having "Our Lady of the Underground" as a song to cut is ABSOLUTELY WILD 😭😭 thats like one of the best numbers in the show and is so important to Persephone what 😭

Would you be willing to walk us through the process of choosing a school play and the process of purchasing it/requesting the rights for it?

There are some PHEMNONIAL teens in local community theatre. I work in theatre in the Phoenix area and we have had many teens move on to stardom. Emma Stone is the most known, but I have worked with kids who are now in movies, touring broadway productions and regulars on TV. Point is, outside of a school setting where you have a much wider pool to cast from, this show would be amazing.

I love this advice, but what is hilarious is my last role I got the audition experience was just insane. I showed up 15 min after they were going to take new auditions because I litterly got caught in a hailstorm on my motorcycle. They took me in anyway and after giving me some time to dry off and get my heartrate back down I got a role in the play.

Hello! You may not read this, but I figured this is a question we could all use (especially me): How do you calm jitters the night before to stay well rested, and ready to perform?

I’m doing hadestown teen edition at a company here and i’m auditioning for orpheus. The crew so far loves me a ton. Ive played guitar for almost 9 years and have the exact vocal range for the role, I can’t wait for my final audition!!!!

as someone that wants to play lord farquaad (my dream role), i would barely sing, since they cut ballad of farquaad and barely singing in whats up duloc (also they changed the wolfs line bc its inappropriate for schools)

I tried out for Donkey and Gingy in Shrek Jr., and I ended up getting mama bear. I’m very upset, but I’ve been trying to look at the bright side. Although I was casted as Mama Bear, I was also casted go be a featured dancer. I’m going to try to embrace my role and not complain so that my directors take consideration of me for my next musical. Thank you for this video. It really made me feel better! 🩷

My school this year did a production of “10 ways to survive the zombie apocalypse” so there were 4 “survivors” in the cast, but we made 2 groups so 4 survivors. Then that way if someone couldn’t do the show we’d understudy that way. Like you would go in for your counterpart of the other group.
