Hey can u pls make a video on a competent cv to match
Great idea!
Could you make a video on how you would prepare for step 3 even though you took level 3?
Yes!
893 is freaking nuts. crazy crazy good score.
Thanks for sharing. Would you think if it’d be better to take STEP3 in the last year of medical school ? Would it be “enough” knowledge to take it?
You unfortunately have to graduate med school before you are eligible but I absolutely think it is reasonable to take Step 3 before residency, probably even better to be honest if you are able to schedule it :)
couple of quick questions; as i am starting my prep and narrowing on resources... whats are your thoughts on "Master the boards"; boards and beyond videos and divine intervention podcasts?
Hmm I didn’t really use any of these resources, but if you find them helpful keep them up. I’d just recommend not substituting practice questions with these. Good luck with prep!
Also congrats on crushing the first stretch of intern year! On a difficult sub-i and this video was absolutely what I needed to hear :) Also would be super interested in a future video on Level 3! One question: Did you (or do you recommend) sending thank you emails/cards to programs post-IV? Absolutely swamped and I'm not too sure I'll be able to..
Oof that’s such a good question and I remember opinions online were split on this. I also felt very overwhelmed because there were often 4 or 5 interviewers with each program and let’s just be honest that’s a lot of thank you’s. I bet I sent emails to half of the programs I interviewed with, and those were at the beginning of interview season and towards the end I was just burning out and for the most part stopped sending them. Looking back, I’d probably make sure to send them to all the programs that I was very serious about. I wish I could say not to send them but now that I’m getting a little peak on the other side it seems like programs care a lot about a person’s interest in the program and that is just another way to show it. Hang in there 🙏
Hello is there instgram or smth to contact you for some help in medical school?
Ah not yet! I’m considering starting an Instagram and will be sure to send out a link to it if I do
Do u think amboss is necessary to do ????
Nope! I only used UW as a Qbank along with the NBME content. I was subscribed to the Amboss knowledge library though and found that pretty helpful!
Thanks for the video that was short and to the point. You mentioned that you just "did" the Dorian anki cards, what does that mean exactly, did just read through all of them, or did you keep repeating the card until you got it correct 1 time (after which you clicked good, and never did the card again in your case)?
Mhmm good point! I repeated each card until I felt like I understood the concept, and then I just never reviewed the card again. I really only did anki cards at the beginning of each rotation- maybe for like a week or two on each rotation? Once I did the OBGYN shelf, no more OBGYN ANKI. Never looked back. Main focus was practice questions. That’s just what worked for me though and everyone has a different approach with ANKI!
Kindly make a video on usmle step 3 preparation. And how did you prepare for the interviews?
😍
I got some help editing this one, I hope you like it :) Timestamps 00:00- First vacation in residency 1:16- How Outpatient IM is going 2:56 - Residency Interview Season Tips 8:22 - How the first day back after vacation went 14:09 - TY evaluation + Level 3 score reveal
Hello, Congratulations on successfully completing Step 2 with impressive score. I am about to begin my preparation for Step 2 and would like to seek your advice. Should i approach uworld system-wise and simultaneously works on the cms form for the corresponding system? Or would it be better to complete uworld first and then move on to the cms forms?
Do whatever makes the most sense to you! I think as long as you are doing lots of questions that is most important. I did UW simultaneously with the CMS forms and I went by rotation: Surgery then IM then OB and so forth. Good luck!
It's reassuring to know that everyone goes through this. I ended up having a fairly protracted course of studying due to general disillusionment about the healthcare system I was exposed to at the time. It took a bit more maturity and some fresh eyes for me to get back to it and I'm very glad I did. This is a lovely, warm perspective - as is the video background and your energy! Thanks!
love the extra captions 😂
lol, definitely going to do some lunges and squats in between blocks too 😂
Thank you very much for the tips Alyssa. I think I work best in a similar way and this was a great reminder of what's always worked for me in the past :)

3 on average. Our cap is 4 admits overnight!
Such a wholesome video + realistic tips for interns! thanks
Thanks for sharing!
Good job putting in the work

So glad to see you making videos! Got a great step 2 score following your advice, now about to submit ERAS apps. Thank you for taking the time to make videos!!

Dr. Alyssa, came across your channel and I have chills after watching 4 videos in a row! Too many similarities to your experiences to just be coincidence. I’m not sure how to get in touch with you outside of general comments but if there’s a way to connect via email please do let me know❤
congratulations need your advice regarding step2 preparation as I cannot learn from uworld step2ck did a lot of work on it completed first pass did in corrects still not getting good scores what to do?
Sorry if this response is too late to be helpful! Have you been able to identify where your weaknesses are? I would work on those weaknesses by reviewing with Amboss or First Aid. You could also take a look at the NBME questions- those question explanations are worded a bit differently and could be a different learning tool to try. I didn’t do Amboss questions, but that could be another option. Just keep at it and keep trying to find the tool(s) that work for you. If this is of any reassurance, I wasn’t scoring perfectly on my incorrects either. I know it’s super frustrating to get the same question wrong again. Hang in there!
Wow, sounds intense! Hope your exams go well!
Missed your videos!!
Wow! I'm shook. I knew it was gonna be hard but your experience really puts it in perspective how challenging intern year is. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!
Thanks for watching! I wonder if it may have been disproportionately difficult since I started in the ICU rather than on a different service. I wonder how the rest of the year will compare. Only time will tell haha
Did you study for step 3 during medical school? I took step 2 a few days ago. Wondering if I should keep doing my anki cards.
Congrats on finishing Step 2!! I started studying in Feb/March of MS4. Ideally I wanted to keep up with studying immediately after Step 2, but it fell through the cracks between sub-I's, ERAS and interviews
Hi Alyssa I’m also hoping to apply anesthesia would it be ok to reach out to you to go over best practices for the application?
Just make sure you won't need STEP-3 for your State Licensure. Also, the AAMC has proposed for STEP-3 to be switched into P/F and 1 day exam. So, I'd recommend to maybe wait for a bit and see how things go with STEP-3
That's super interesting to hear there are discussions about Step 3 going P/F! I really hope it does! You bring up a great point about licensing. It's super weird with licensing for DO's. Most states allow DOs to take either Step 3 or Level 3, but a handful of states require DOs to take the entire NBOME series (Comlex Levels 1, 2 and 3). So basically, if I only took USMLE Step 3 at this point (not Level 3), there would be some states where I couldn't practice. Oddly enough, taking Level 3 broadens my options. Of course, taking both would probably be better (and some people do it), but I'm too tired to take an extra two day exam when I hear it doesn't matter for anesthesia. 😅
I really like your channel. Your only a year ahead of me, so your perspective is super helpful. I'm trying to write my personal statement for IM right now, and I feel like my mind is blank. Like I don't know what to write. If you could make a video on writing your personal statement (if it isn't too personal), I think a lot of people would find it helpful.
