Carving A Comfort Bird

The pattern that I am using came from the North Idaho, Carver Ed Kantola, web page, northidahocarver.blogspot.com/2013/07/comfort-birds.html The pattern is at the link 2.bp.blogspot.com/-ei7MSCu3Ako/Udi095TX35I/AAAAAAAAA2Y/gb9Vdti62c0/s1600/scan0002.jpg On my printer/copier I needed to reduce the pattern to the percentages that are listed below. For blank size below: 1 1/2 = 44% 1 3/4 = 51% 2 =...
What originally appealed to me about carving was the simplicity. Lately I have spent too much time admiring all the wooden tote designs I see on you tube without building any of them. They might be prettier than a plastic bucket but you said it first thing, your plan puts the tools at the right height. Hard to beat outdoor carving, better light and no sweeping. Thanks.
Jim, I like your video. Some of the things I especially liked are the lay out lines, the staining of the wood to make it easier to see what your doing in each step and the way you broke the video into different steps. Thanks!
Sometime in the south are referred as “Worry Birds”; have ‘made .,hundreds out of all kinds of wood mostly exotic. My favorite is carved out of the “banksia pods” that comes from Australia.
Nice work, dad! I love the end product from this dresser too!!
very nice...
Very nice thank you
Well done. Wood is a precious gift of natureThank you.
Jim - Thanks so much for posting this video Have wanted to start carving these for a local RMH. Most videos that I have seen do a lot of the work with sanders. Your approach is so much more appealing as I’d rather enjoy the knife work, which is comforting in it’s own way. I most appreciate seeing how you lay out the lines before starting the carving to keep everything symmetrical. Thanks again!
