Why metal detecting? Because it's fun!
My journey began like many other newcomers to the hobby, watching Gary Drayton on Curse of Oak Island. Soon after, I discovered that detectorists were documenting the hobby on their own RUclips channels. In the Summer of 2018, I borrowed a $60 detector from my brother’s garage and headed to the local river beach. I was thrilled to find bottle caps, pull tabs, pocket change and even a few toy cars over several hunts. I had no idea at the time just how basic that detector was.
Later that year I upgraded to the Fisher F22 and sharpened my skills in parks and ballfields, finding plenty of clad and bling jewelry. By the spring of 2020, it was time to up my game and hunt for older treasures. After much research, I invested in a Minelab Equinox 600 - a versatile machine well-suited to my Midwest detecting adventures. Join me as I dig the dirt life!

had to look it up cause I never knew the name of it, but your pin is the “Blue Star Flag” they were used as ribbons, stickers, pins, etc… youve probly seen them numerous times, they were worn or displayed to indicate how many family members were serving in the military, and the number of stars represented how many were serving.

I to like seeing what all happened during what ever my coins date is . If you take a pencil I use a carpenter pencil but take a pencil after you cleaned your coin or whatever as much as you can and color in over the date And then wipe it off. it will brings out lots and lots of detail usually no matter how bad a coin is damaged . Plus it's just graphite so it'll wash off If you need to

It's not uncommon to find shallow, old coins along an old pathway. The ground has been compacted by heavy foot traffic. Try to determine the direction of the path and slowly sweep your coil just over the ground with slow overlapping swings.

In the moment, it was somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind, but I just couldn't pull it outta there, LOL. I did have a guy come up to me ten minutes after I found it and I showed him my finds and he said, "Wow, you found a swish army knife!" So, I didn't have to wait long for the memory to come back. That is a motherload Steve. My best is a bunch of pennies last spring, around 47 or so. They were neatly laid out too, as if someone had dropped a roll and the paper had disintegrated. Thanks for watching!

Another way to acid test for silver is to use the 18k acid. If the line turns a chalky blue color, then you have silver. Thx for the videos!

What is the best metal detector for beginners??
Thanks for watching, subbing, and asking this important question Bob. When I first started in 2018 I was swinging a Fisher F22, a real nice and simple machine for $225. The tech has really improved for the price though since then. If I were you I would consider a Nokta Simplex or a Minelab Vanquish which comes in three different models and prices. Both are great turn on and go machines and will find you anything I'm finding.

Don, I've been doing some googling trying to figure it out, but haven't found an exact match yet. The style of wrestling singlet would definitely suggest early 1900's though. I'm in Central Iowa and Iowa has a rich wrestling tradition. Thanks for watching!
