Why AWS Cloud Practitioner Won’t Land You a Job (Do This Instead)
In this video, I explain why the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner won't secure you a job on its own and what you should prioritize instead. I discuss the limitations of the foundational certification and emphasize the necessity of hands-on experience and additional certifications, such as the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate. I also highlight the importance of solving real business problems with technical skills and direct you to resources for hands-on labs and practical learning. My goal is to set realistic expectations and provide a roadmap for those starting their cloud tech journey.

You’re welcome!
I’m new at AWS, thanks for your help to initiate this process
Happy to help! 🙌
Hey Greg, thanks for your advices! I'm software engineer and I'm looking for my first certificacion, I've been working in a few aws services like lambda and ec2... I have a brief knowdlege in the basic services and I'm interested in the aws solution architect associate certificacion, do you think that is a good option to open my job opportunities in the future? I've been working in this area for 2 years, I'm really newbie. Greeting from Argentina.
Absolutely yes - the AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification is a great choice for your situation! Since you already have hands-on experience with AWS services like Lambda and EC2, you have a solid foundation to build upon. This certification is highly respected in the industry and will definitely help open doors for your career, especially with your 2 years of practical experience.
@ thanks Greg
I just started my journey. Im tired of all the mumbo jumbo so thank you. In 36 and really need a need a new path and in green as a leprechaun. I was thibking to get this cert, and look towards security within aws. Not sure if it pays well or theres much need, but I sure hope so, ready for a positive change aand a mental sweat not just back breaking one in life
That or some kind of engineering or architecture
Begin with AWS Cloud Practitioner but don't stop there. Continue on to AWS SA Associate combined with hands on skills.
@ Thank you so very much! Today I started the first lessons, and found ec2 super intriguing! Appreciate the tips!
Just had my first class on cloud computing today 😅😊, hopefully I’m going to get there sooner 😊
You’ll get there! 🙌
This is all I needed. I’m a web app pen tester. Have my Oscp Lfcs & im still current with my csaa …. You just gave me a methodology for architecting…. To talk my way into cloud consulting on my own. Identify use case. Identify End goal Match the potential services to the businesses needs… Present the Solution to the Business Problem!! Thank you so much!! The certs don’t give you this!! Appreciate you :. King!!
I got you! 🙌
If a network support job posting does not get into specifics, but lists AWS as a required cert, would the cloud practitioner be enough for HR to set up an interview? Asking for your personal opinion of course, thank you for the videos.
In my opinion the minimum technical bar for AWS knowledge is SA Associate.
@@ThoughtfulTechyCloud Thank you for your honest opinion! I've put a decent amount of time into studying for the CLF-002 so I am going to finish it up, but this was helpful in tempering my expectations. I will pursue the SA Associate before trying to move past my basic help desk job, thank you again for all your videos.
I got the cloud practitioner right out of a cyber security boot camp. I'm now learning the CSA using the AWS skill builder. The SimuLearn program uses the actual AWS console, just like using free tier, but it gives you access to all the resources you need for the lab, without paying for the services. Once the lab is provisioned, you're locked out of anything not needed, so you can't rack up expense. It's a pretty nice sandbox environment. I'm also teaching myself Python during my downtime on lunch breaks or when nothing is going on in the warehouse I work in. Once I have the CSA, I'm thinking I might go to the AWS IQ for Experts page, and see if I can build some real world projects to reference on job applications. The skill builder has a monthly fee, but it isn't huge. IQ for Experts sounds kinda like a mercenary job board for cloud people. You can actually make money at it. I'm hoping to be into a remote cloud job in the next year or so.
Which certification do companies value most in a professional in your opinion? Solutions Professional or DevOps Professional???
Honestly what a company values most is can you help them deliver results and achieve their desired business outcomes leveraging your technical abilities.
thanks mate well explained
Thank you!
Where is the comptia a+ link ? I can’t find it in the description 8:09

This video really opened my eyes to the possibilities in tech. It's inspiring to see so many options out there.
So glad to hear this!
Great tips! I recently learned about platforms like ResuBot that can help streamline the resume process. Definitely worth checking out.
For anyone struggling with their resume, I've heard Resubot can really help make it ATS-friendly. Just a thought.
I appreciate the focus on certifications. It's nice to know there are paths into tech that don't require a traditional degree.
Absolutely!
This is super helpful for anyone looking to break into tech without a degree. It's all about skills and certifications these days.
Glad you found this helpful!
Love the straightforward honesty
Straight to the point! 🙌
Hello, I am looking to make a career change. If I were to get the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification, would I be able to land an entry-level career
No. I made a video on this topic here: ruclips.net/video/R5TUFMc6VVM/видео.html
@ thanks!
i really want to become a Solutions Architect, I have the Cloud practitioner & Solutions architect associate certifications and i am currently working one the data engineer certificate. what do you recommend for me to get my first job as an SA? is it internships or what other ways are there?
Building some projects, network with AWS community, document your journey.
@@ThoughtfulTechyCloud sounds fair, I'll start right away
Same here. . agreed with helpdesk support job , hopefull for cloud transformation..
Let's GO!! 🙌
I just found your channel,I’m subscribed and ready to learn
Awesome! You came to the right place 🙌
I took this certification on January 21 and scored 827. I’m still waiting for someone to say it’s a mistake because I didn’t think I would pass. I currently hold 4 certifications (Practitioner, AI Practitioner, Developer, and Architect Associate), and next week I’ll be attempting the Architect Professional certification. I also have 3 years of experience as a software engineer. With this background, do you think I have a good chance of landing a job at a big tech company like Amazon/AWS?
It definitely seems like you're on the right track!
I’m thinking about going to cis or IT which one would be better
CIS and IT are similar
🤷🏾im just there for the money idgaf if i get it or not.
understood
Is there a part 2 yet? Looking forward to hearing more of ur journey
We both got sick. Working to reboot 😊
I am ready.
AWSome 🙌
Hey there, love the content! Would you say completing AWS Re/Start cohort, CCP cert, and few years Help Desk would afford a good chance to land a Cloud Role ?
Thanks! Treat AWS SA Associate as the minimum technical bar for a Cloud role
@ThoughtfulTechyCloud appreciate that , I'm on it.
Hey hey hey there!! I’m up and ready to learn 😎
Let’s GO!!! 😃🙌
Can I do the solutions architect exam first using aws academy videos and practice mocks and do the labs after?
Theory, combined with hands on labs.
All you need is certs and hand on and world experience.
That'll carry you far!
What if you had completed the aws cloud support associate professional certification. Which would you recommend to pursue?
AWS SA Associate 💯
As a guy who codes for a living. Yes my degree “was outdated” by the time I graduated. But that’s not what I took away from my degree. What I took away was. How to solve problems and tricks of the trade. You can learn those on the job and you will learn more. But then you need to beat the catch 22 of you need experience or a degree for the first 5 years.
Great insights
Oops. I did that too back in 2019, and even that didn’t help.
Not sure I understand
@ I went to college in 2019 for a masters in cloud computing architecture
Im looking to beef up my resume of about 20 years of support, from deaktop support to SaaS product support the past 8 years..sounds like this is what i need to check off an AWS familiarity requirement for a job.
AWS SA Associate will have a bigger impact
Best of luck! I just passed mine on the 15th and already booked my SAA exam after that from the excitement 😅
Congrats on passing your exam!
Would a software engineering degree be helpful while pursuing these certifications?
It certainly won't hurt! 😃
Greg, this video was very helpful. I received an interview for the Cloud Support Engineer role, and I'm assuming I can use these same methods during that interview screening? Either way, it was still helpful into understanding how Amazon interviews go.👌🏾
Ok. How about 6 months then? 😂
Simple answer: it's really hard. Over twice as hard as CCP. I'm a Computer Systems Engineer with a decade of experience, studied 2 months for this, and only got 63% on the final practice exam.
Would you recommend net+ or ccna? And how become the knowledge about terraform docker ci/cd etc ?
Fundamentals are everything ❤
💯🙌
Thank you. I want to learn more about the AWS cloud so it seems like this is the right way to do it. I see a lot of ppl at my job with this cert.
