      I don't think it would be too strong. I'm wondering if the blood would glow or be a dark spot. Might be able to make it more visible with the different light intensities.

    Hello and thanks for your video. Here in Virginia, I invested in a 30 acre long and flat parcel (shaped like Tennessee), with the only viable (road) access in at the short edge to the east. Archery season started first Sat in Oct, Muzzleloader the first Sat in November. During these two seasons, my son and I saw deer, and together with a work friend bagged three in this time, across about 10 combined sits. However, once gun season started Nov 16, nearby hunt clubs started running their hounds, many of which ran through my parcel. Since that first day of gun and dog season, I have seen no deer during shooting hours on my cameras on that parcel. Deer are completely nocturnal and are not moving during the day until there is literally a dog bumping them. Was this pivot to nocturnal likely the dogs, or could it have simply been repeated hunting pressure from six weeks of still hunting from a limited number of stands and blinds? I'm trying to determine if the local hound hunting is a blessing (because I can position myself with a shotgun when I know they're running dogs) to have a chance at deer that I otherwise would never see), or a curse (because the dogs basically snuffed out what was left of my still hunting chances). Thoughts?

      They vary based on the natural habitat. I've gotten them to bed in something as small as a 20 yard by 20 yard pocket but also have 100 yard by 50 yard pockets. The important thing is if you have say 10 acres you want to devote to bedding, you can start by thickening up pockets of it instead of thinking you need to do the whole thing.

    Out of curiosity, on your gun property, how many hunters are hunting at the same time in what size parcel? Thanks for the videos. I am always thinking about how to improve the property and trying to be more purposeful about which stands I hunt during bow season now.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest Месяц назад

      During gun season, the max I'll put on a 40 acre piece is 4 hunters who are set up diagonally across the 40 which breaks down to them being roughly 200 yards away from each other. The parcel has a lot of topography and thick cover so we can get away with it there. If you have a lot flatter land and it's more open you may only want to hunt one hunter per 40.

    I hunt leased pine stands in central Arkansas. The brush is thick except in new clear cuts. There is dense cover everywhere and not much area for food plots. A few trenches with hardwoods that product mass nuts. Food plots are mostly winter wheat 🌾 or rye grasses. I plan to start hunt more from a climbing stand and abandoning my nice box stands to try to ambush the deer 🦌 on heavier used trails cutting through the thicker bush and thickets. I feel by mid season all the deer are traveling 50-150 yards by my stands. I’m spending hours, days in stands and seeing nothing.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest Месяц назад

      I would definitely set up a stand location closer to where the deer are moving. I have two abandoned stands on my property that were used for decades but as the woods matured they were no longer good locations to hunt from. The woods are always changing and it's best to hunt where the deer are now over hunting where they were years ago.

  • @glorybound7599

    I see all the deer 🦌 in velvet in August that hunters around me are harvesting in the fall. I go through a lot of corn 🌽.

  • @glorybound7599
    @glorybound7599 Месяц назад

    In central Arkansas where most high yield deer leases are located there are only pine plantations. The soil is clay and rock because pines don’t need quality soil to grow. Plowing is impossible. There are mainly thick undergrowth consisting mainly of briar and scrub brush. Where I brush hog I am seeing some natural grass returning and with lime, fertilizer and wild food blends and clover 🍀 I do get some growth. Most other hunter use winter wheat and rye.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest Месяц назад

      The advantage of winter wheat and rye is that it's a soil builder over time. If you can get buckwheat to grow in the summer, you can get two rotations or even three since you're in Arkansas of putting all of that nice organic matter back into the soil. I have a lot of videos on my channel explaining how to do this. Good luck!

  • @glorybound7599

    What is your opinion on how close your vehicle is to your hunting stand. I usually hike 150-400 yards from my vehicle to my stand trying to minimize sound, sight and smell of the vehicle at my hunting location. Others drive right to their stands and shoot deer 🦌 as much or more than I do. I have seen deer 🦌 that rarely respond to a vehicle but where they immediately bolt when they see you exit the vehicle or are walking through the woods.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest Месяц назад

      Most of our stands are less than 100 yards from the road. However, we park maybe a quarter mile down the road, walk down the road and then enter the woods where the stands are. A 4 wheeler only touches the woods if we're retrieving a deer.

  • @glorybound7599
    @glorybound7599 Месяц назад

    I bought a DR brush mower and really opened up my dense hunting spots. Now I see that I may have over done a bit. I’ll make a few adjustments you’ve covered and I think I’ll start seeing more deer 🦌. In central Arkansas you can brush cut an area and after a few spring rains it is a jungle again, so I should be able to allow some new growth to accomplish two things. One, redirect my paths to be less straight and two, allow the rest to grow into good browsing.

  • @glorybound7599
    @glorybound7599 Месяц назад

    I setup a tripod stand with canopy cover between my two box stands hoping to catch deer traveling between the two feeders. That worked pretty well last year and early season this year but I also baited that location. I now believe that might be a mistake. It is a good travel route location between the two box stands but there are some oaks with acorns nearby and very thick cover on one side with a creek valley on the other. I plan to hunt it next season without bait but maintaining the shooting lanes and the open area that I brush hog to try and ambush the deer traveling the trails between the two feeders as originally planned.

  • @glorybound7599
    @glorybound7599 Месяц назад

    I hunt on a lease in central Arkansas. I’ve been on this lease now for 10 years. The first 3 years I harvest two nice mature buck. Since then I only see 3 year olds or less. I’ve significantly developed my area which is in a pine stand which is now 27 years old and was thinned 7 years ago. Having now viewed a few of your videos, I feel that I over hunt my location, are not as wind concerned as I should be and may even be right in the middle of a very extensive bedding area. My area this season produced a nice doe and buck. I harvested the doe during early archery season with a crossbow but missed my buck the opening day of alternative weapons season. I have 3 stands that are 200-400 yards apart, all are that distance or less from our deer camp. I could go on but suffice it to say that human interference is a major reason I’m seeing less deer 🦌 and only younger deer 🦌. We due hunt over bait which I use feeders. I’m basically now feeding deer 🦌 20-30 bags of corn a year and coming away with 1-2 deer in return. Spending 100 hours plus in stands and seeing very little to show for the effort. It’s time to change things up.

  • @glorybound7599
    @glorybound7599 Месяц назад

    I’ve developed my stand locations into mini golf courses. They look great but by late October during archery 🏹 season I stop seeing deer 🦌. Some reasons are my scent but hunting pressure is on the increase. I plan to try to start hunting more on the edge of my ares stands and spend less time in those stands where I spend a lot of time viewing birds, rabbits 🐇, squirrels 🐿️ or nothing at all.

    Good info. While must hunters know about sounds and sents, not enough attention is paid to absolutely no movement, especially on ground stands. To test the no movement importance, I once sat against a tree, wide open at the base of forest meadow looking uphill giving the deer all the advantage. I DID NOT move at ALL, from before light for almost 3 hours. A buck came down the trail, I saw him only when I heard him 20 yards away - they are masters at ghosting. As I slowly positioned to shoot, his head was behind a tree but he knew something was different. When he stepped out, I smacked

    It's my 1st year deer hunting, I've only gotten 1 deer so far. It's a great first deer for myself & my custom rifle build. He was a 10 point. Almost has 11 but that last point isn't but 3/16" long. I don't think it counts technically? It's actually only deer I've shot this year. I was hoping to fill my doe tags too. Still have little bit of time. Unfortunately I don't have many places to hunt. 2 properties I need to be invited. Other is inlaws property which I can go whenever but it's gotten hammered really hard by their kids & family. So deer went completely nocturnal there. If deer do go nocturnal which would be better to try get a doe late season, morning or evening?? Thanks

      Your state's agricultural extension will typically do it for free. You can also go to a local feed mill or co-op and ask them, they'll get you hooked up.
