    Thanks once again. This has reinforced that which we know and added to the knowledge base as well. The addition of a battery to our car setup is something that's been playing on my mind now for a while so it was great to see your setup explained. We're considering the starlink mini as it apparently (still to confirm this) has 12v power attachments. For us this would negate any need to an inverter in our car setup as we don't need another fridge. Anyway I'm rambling. Great video and very information. Thanks to you both!

    Good evening guys. Very informative vid mate. Amazing cameo at 7.46 Mavo whoops Danielle. Paused and looked in wonder.😂. Q. 170w on car shadow from starlink only 1w. My 200w Hardcore soft panel does more with shadows because of copper backing and multiple points of connection (think I'm right) Glass panels aren't the same? Love the science of 12v and love learning about it.

    Great vid mate, batteries and solar setups are an individual preference,,, great setup u got! I'm curious, what solar blanket do u use????? And also why are jawa adding an MPPT charger now? I've got a infinity 15 with the standard 40amp dcdc that controls my solar comming in? Is it because ypu have up to 900w of solar comming in?

    • @empty_nestadventures
      @empty_nestadventures 19 часов назад

      @@gripball-t9s solar blanket is a dirty old XTM from BCF mate, but that was all I could get in Geraldton when my last one stopped working! It’s 300W and I’ve seen about 18A max from it so pretty respectable. As for the MPPT, it’s more to with upgrades to Enerdrive 2024 range. The inverters now come with a combo charger 3000W/100A, 2000W/80A, they’ve added the MPPT and most vans now come with 600W on the roof. The MPPT also feeds whilst driving as it’s independent to the dcdc, so just more power coming in if needed

    Did you know it is possible to convert Starlink to 12 volts if you install a Cowfish mobile phone booster and get a Cowfish converter to plug the Starlink antenna into the Cowfish unit? You still need a Starlink account to receive the signal, but it sends the signal to the Cowfish unit, which runs on 12 volts. So there is no need to run the inverter on 240 volts to power the Starlink. That saves a heap of power consumption.

    I would add a fire pit, waterproof wood bag, tomahawk and hand saw for a fire on cold nights. Also vital in colder weather particularly Tasmania is a 12 volt electric blanket to warm the bed. Uses very little power and makes a diesel heater unnecessary. A waterproof jacket is vital. Also a good pair of boots. We also carry six clamps to hold the anti flaps in place if it gets windy. Our van has also been fitted with a Cowfish mobile phone signal booster which puts out 4G and 5G wifi. This means we don't need a smart TV as we just receive wifi on our devices. We also fitted a Gripsport bike rack to the front of our Lowdown and our bikes go everywhere with us.

    Do you ever take e or push bikes on your trips?

      @@amandaarmstrong3869 hi Amanda, we have taken an e-bike on a trip before. It had a little seat on the back that I ‘made’ out of zip ties and stuff from the bin… it was heaps of fun, but the bike took up a lot of space in the canopy. Because we don’t own our vans (we test different models for Jawa) we don’t make any modifications. On both our laps as well, we found places where bikes are handy, there is always an option to hire them. So personally we find the expense of modifying our setup and the PITA it is to take them down and them rack them up, that paying a few bucks to hire is the way to go. We did that in Margaret River, on Rottnest Island and a couple of other places

    Great video as usual. We're waiting on our Sirocco and thinking about where to do a shakedown trip. Just wondering what part of Gordon Country, you stayed at? It looks awesome. Thanks

    Enough room with the bench space to cook inside with a small butane stove or similar cooker if the weather outside is really bad . Amazing how they manage to get so much stuff fitted in a small van

      We bought a small portable induction cooker to plug into the inverter so we can cook inside our Lowdown in bad weather. It's so handy we sometimes use it outside as well, and also at home. Next step will be a gasless caravan, but that requires a lot more solar.

    Another great video, maybe even my favourite?? Perfect timing for us. We have a lowdown and think it’s magnificent for us. Only two hours ago my wife and I were talking about putting a mirror in our van (unfortunately the one over the sink is in a bad position) so we thought of a full height mirror in the ensuite. A question for you. Is the mirror fixed with brackets/clips or silicone? I couldn’t quite tell from the video. Once again, great review, good mix of business and pleasure with the music and wildlife. Happy travels🛻

      We think it’s fixed on with an adhesive, there are no clips. Thanks for the feedback as well, glad you love them!

    $250 for plastic chock blocks😅😅😅😅😅 I've always carried off cuts of treated pine timber. Cost next to nothing. Can't use your chock block as a jack base plate😮 Been using a coffee pot for decades. Carried one in my kit when I went on field exercises in the Army.

    Awesome review on the commander hey would it be to heavy for the beach ??

    • @empty_nestadventures
      @empty_nestadventures 24 дня назад

      Thanks. It’s a tough question…. I don’t think it’s too heavy, but depends on your tow vehicle/setup and how much experience you have. Another potential issue with the beach, is generally there is a tight track with low branches to get to your campsite, so the solid roof will limit you. The 2024 model isn’t much heavier than any other poptop of similar size. It’d be fine as an example for the campsite south of Indian Head on Fraser, but I wouldn’t take it up to Waddy Point. I wouldn’t take it to Main or Flinders on Straddie, again because of the height, not the weight.
