Old Vintage Smoking Pipe Restoration

This is restoration of old vintage smoking pipe. It wasn't that bad shape but some rust on the bowl cover and it was pretty dirty. I got this smoking pipe for restoration as donation. Restoration started by taking the pipe parts apart. I heated the pipe to melt the glue, then I cleaned the chamber and stem using alcohol and brush. The stem was very dirty. Regarding the speedometer drive: do you know if it's possible to remove the worm gear? i see you can somewhat easily remove the worm wheel but on my drive I need to remove the worm gear because the end of the speedometer cable broke off deep inside there and am trying to get at it.

      @@MikkelPLayzDanskminecraft I know it's very frustrating. I had to do mine many times also before I got it right. It's a marathon of patience! :D I had the same problem that spokes sticked out too far. The first spoke you install is the key point. It has to be in the right hole. But if the spoke sticks out too far, start putting the spokes in next possible holes to try even the wheel/spoke line when the spokes are not sticking out too much anymore. I am surprised that you have done so little to protect your lantern after so much restoration work (which unfortunately included removing the rust protective tin plate). You could have painted the lantern with a solid color paint or you could have uses a clear high heat paint to protect from rust while providing the same metal look you have now. At the very least you might want to consider coating the lantern with multiple coats of solvent thinned Boiled Linseed Oil which will air dry and form a most basic moisture proof clear coating. You did such a nice job of removing the rust it will be a shame for it to come back.

    • @AnshjelmRestoration
      @AnshjelmRestoration 2 года назад

      Thank you for such thorough feedback. Actually I though the coating part quite lot during the process. I just didn't want to paint it and I only ended up using the polish only which should give it some protection (at least that the label said 😅). I still have thought about that after the restoration and now when you pointed this out I think I will take it apart once again and give it some heat resistant clear coat. Thank you again for pointing that out 🙏

    • @morayjames92
      @morayjames92 2 года назад

      @@AnshjelmRestoration if you look you can even find clear high heat primer paint as well as the clear high heat top coat.
