      Yes, it is. It started in a 5 gallon bucket. It was about 6ft tall. However, the first winter beat it down. So we put it on the ground. Now it grows 3-4ft and produces every year.

    • @IplantFood1635
      @IplantFood1635 9 месяцев назад

      Thank you. On hot days, we water every other day. On cooler days, we water 2-3 times a week. Removing the damaged leaves helps the plant looking and fruiting good. Adding heavy mulch to retain moisture and feed the plant at the same time has also been a contributing factor.

      Our melons did not do well this year because we planted them late in the season. The inconsistent heat and rain did not help. Many of the melons started splitting. We did not get the yield we were hoping for. If all goes well in the 2024 planting season, we are not sure what we will be planting yet but we are hoping to get started after the last frost.

    I only got 1 Moon and Stars watermelon this year. Planted 2 times. The one I got was 2 pounds. It didn't look like it was ripe at all when I cut it. It's tendril had dried up days before I picked it. I was disappointed that the flesh was hardly pink, and it burst with seeds. The taste was surprising! It was very sweet and tasted like a good watermelon. Maybe we have gotten so used to the hybrids that we don't know what to look for with this heirloom. I got my seeds from Monticello- the Thomas Jefferson strain. I'm going to plant it again.

    Your watermelon looks amazing. The yellow spot on the front is perfectly normal. It gets the name moon and stars because of the big yellow spot and the smaller speckles (it mimics the actual sky, etc). The leaves are also speckled. I just harvested mine and I agree that it was not that sweet. I recommend you try sugar babies and/ or Charleston grays or crimson sweet watermelons. Good job and good luck.

    Why don't you tell your viewers to not do that and instead spend the money to get a grafted tree just like the one you bought at the nursery? The grafted tree will produce in 3 years instead of that seedling you planted (which may not even be true to seed if you select the wrong embryo to keep) and take 8-10 years to give them a mango they may not like if luck is not in their favor.

    • @IplantFood1635

      Thank you for your comment. You make a good point. When I was growing up in the Caribbean, we planted our trees from seeds. Very few people were into grafting. The length of time it would take to bear fruit was not a factor. The pride of planting our own seeds to bear fruit was joyful. The purpose of the video is to show the process of planting a mango tree from seed.

    Nice, I’m glad you were able to salvage the plants from the wind and hailstorm. I am continuously amazed by nature. That planting things a few weeks later than the normal planting season could result in the grass out growing the watermelon vine. I never thought about that. And why in the world would those melons have been completely dried out like that?!? But like you said back to earth it goes and the seeds will sow themselves for a future harvest. I’ve never seen a near white watermelon, the one you left on the ground to grow a bit more. I’ll stay tuned to learn about that one. But the morning star melon did look rather juicy. Too bad it was not as sweet as it looked and I’ve had stringy melon before and i’m not a fan. Hopefully the family will like it. But if not the dogs and rabbits will enjoy. Thanks so much for sharing. Stay blessed. ✌🏾🍉🙂
