Me personally, my favorite version of William Afton is the FNAF VHS (Squimpus). Despite the controversy, Squimpus shown us that if you look past the memes, the flanderization, and the joking of Afton killing kids in whatever reason he has in the books/games; in the VHS series, Squimpus gave us a version of William that is truly, in one word, a demon. Something that took all the hatred he has towards Michael for the accidental death of his little brother and took it out on those innocent children that did nothing but became his standins for what he wanted to do to Michael. Springtrap is William Afton's true self: a rotten, miserable, lonely, pathetic, and spiteful wretch. PS: I know the FNAF VHS is pretty much oversaturated except with a few gems, like Battingyon, Spectre, and others. But when FNAF VHS was at its peak, we can't ignore despite the controversy, give credit to where credit is due, Squimpus. I hope if there's going to be a FNAF TV series, I hope it's going to be based and inspired by the VHS tapes, turning it a horror/drama series.

honestly, i don’t know how it could have been said any better. a lot of the characters in the fnaf franchise is either directly correlated to the incidents that have happened due to being incapable of moving on and/or a product and victim of someone who wasn’t able to move on. it’s honestly been possibly my favorite part of the story, aside from all the theorizing. to see how it all had sort of a domino effect on one another, and how it showcases different ways the characters have grieved and how it led to their fallouts in life. if william had been capable of accepting dave’s death and cherishing the two kids he had left after the incident, perhaps things would have turned out differently. it’s so beautifully tragic. to me, it is a sad and somber story before it is a horror story. ever since the first two games, the tragedy of kids haunting suits and enforcing the same painful death onto any night guard that takes the job always lingered in my mind.

First of all, I want to say that I'm using Google Translate to write this text, so please excuse any mistakes. I think it's more accurate to say that Henry is an example of how not moving forward can leave you oblivious to the problems that are happening around you (William's actions, the corruption of the company he co-founded, etc. ..) William Afton is my favorite villian in all of gaming (and my favorite FNaF character) because of how fascinating of a character he is. Something that makes William Afton so evil that people don't realize is the true fate that William is giving his victims. Almost all killers in fiction think that once you're dead, that's it. But William knows the afterlife exists, and he purposefully puts little innocent children into a purgatory he knows that they cannot escape from. That's true evil. All in the name of "science," as well. He calls them family, but when push comes to shove, they're just experiments to him. William, deep inside, wants a family, but can't resist the narcissistic and sociopathic side of himself. William believes in objective morality, yet still somehow believes he's justified in what he's doing. But deep inside, he knows that's a cope. He knows exactly what he's truly doing. He always comes back not because he has something to live for, but rather because he knows what's waiting for him on the other side. He's just delaying the inevitable with no care of how many people he hurts in the process. He's just keeping the Devil waiting.

I've finally trained my Almighty Algorithm to show me what I want to see and it's helped me find some amazing new Theorists (now including you, 3PO!) in the community these last 5 months and it's been a blast. I love the OGs and the Lockdown Legends (Hyper Droid's timeline videos are what made me officially join the Fazbear fueled madness) but FNAF's post movie Rennesance has introduced The Next Generation and y'all have been a breath of fresh air. I absolutely despise William Afton because he's a malignant narcissist and a punk ass bitch for only murdering kids but I love how you and Bonk Boy have broken him down to the roots. He's not an omnipotent unstoppable demon, he's just a thoroughly flawed sad little man who deserves every bit of pain he got. He was too much of a 😻😻😻 to kill adults and he was too much of a 😻😻😻to man up and take accountability for his actions. Honestly Matthew Lillard had a good point in comparing Afton to Lord Voldemort. Like Voldemort, Afton’s appearances are few and far between yet their presence/impact can still be felt throughout their respected series’s. Both sacrificed their humanity in trying to obtain immortality which is reflected in their now monstrous appearances. Both of their stories end with them suffering a fate worse than death, where they’re trapped in purgatory unable to move on cause of the lengths they went through.

I like this take on the themes. But I have to add a slight remark in terms of lore, especifically on the last part with Cassidy. You interpret her drowning as not letting go, but I think the opposite. We know that ending intrinsically links UCN to FNAF World. However, when we look at the FNAF World rendition of that ending, the image that appears after is titled in the files as "Happiest Day". Moreover, the UCN rendition literally crashes the game, which means it ended, it's over. Cassidy let go of the demon to his demons and finally rested in her Happiest Day.

I think William Afton should have a second chance since I think he now realized that not letting go of the past which lead him to be the vile person he is. Hopefully in future games William Afton would get his second chance and hopefully he learns from his mistakes.

This might be controversial but here goes since people say it seems William Afton now realized that everyone felt on how he felt on not letting go of the past. Since he now learned about it I think we should give him a second chance who knows maybe he should say sorry and start a new life and hopefully he learns from his mistakes.

Thank you for the quick summary at the end. I wanted to share the game's lore with my mom, whom I watched the movie with, she likes horror but isn't a gamer, and she ended up liking the movie. I showed a few fan songs and animations but not something that accurately showed the full story, and she doesn't like long explanation videos either so I think this is just what I need. Edit: Nevermind it doesn't fully explain his brother and I'd still have to explain what remnant is which is likely to just cause more confusion, than just calling it spiritual energy or posessed metal. I tried explaining what happened in the games and it just caused more confusion before so not ready to talk about remnant. Something being possessed is easy enough for most people to understand so I'll stick with that for now.

In the Fazbear Frights books it's Andrew, but because it's more parallels than direct canon the names are different. In The Man in Room 1280 there's two kids who haunt Golden Freddy, Andrew is the vengeful spirit in this one but the other spirit is in control of the body. They are both victims of William I think though, so crying child isn't in here. In the games the vengeful spirit is Cassidy, who's the one in control of the body this time, and crying child is trying to tell Mike he's there with "It's Me" and the hallucinations in the first game. The roles of the spirits are reversed but there's still two spirits in Golden Freddy ,a vengeful one and one who's not vengeful, but they're different characters. Some people see it as 1 to 1 since it explains what happens outside William's nightmare in Ultimate Custom, though with the inconsistencies I mentioned it's probably Cassidy in the games. The story supplements the game but isn't 1 to 1. Edit: I misremembered, the two spirits in the books haunt the stitchwraith not Golden Freddy.
