Some clips from my first BrewZilla brew day and a tasting of the end result! For my first batch on the BrewZilla I did an American Amber Ale using locally grown and floor-malted two row, and it came out pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Mighty Mill 3 Roller Assembly and Review
Great video and demo. Wonder how the tap and flow control attachment is holding up. Any issues? Cheers 🍻
@@tubedinoz Since this video I've moved up to 5 gallon kegs in a kegerator so I don't use it as heavily as I used to, but I use it occasionally on small Oxebar kegs and it's holding up great! I actually wound up getting a second one and these are all I use on those small kegs. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Mash in at 142F for 30min, then raise to 153 for 30min to get the fermentable out and should get you what you are wanting to use less dextrose.
Excellent, thanks! Will try that next time!
To fine of a crush, the water can't get around and help with better extraction unless you are using rice hulls. I run my setup with a .045 crush get 72% efficiency.
Thanks! I assume that's just with the malt pipe or do you use a bag as well? I did 0.04" on my first BrewZilla batch just using the malt pipe and got 62% efficiency, but could be that the setting indicator wasn't correct at that point either. Now that I have it as tight as it'll go I'll have to mess with getting the knobs to reflect the actual setting. I appreciate you watching and the feedback, and thanks for the tip on the mash temp control settings, worked great for this batch!
@@irondalebrewing just use the malt pipe and did sparge. After mashing in, waited 15min then did 45min of recirculation.
Cheers! Great video Matt! I do use that same whirlpool arm, but direct the wort along the edge of the kettle to get a circular motion. I don’t know if you were trying to force the wort thru the hop bag in this instance.
*facepalm* Yeah that would work much better. :) First time using it (other than just throwing it on there to help with chilling) and didn't even think about positioning it properly to get an actual whirlpool going. I appreciate the tip!
Another enjoyable video. I also picked up a few tips. I’ve been putting my malt bag in first then the malt basket. Like your way better. Is that a 220 volt Brewzilla because my boil is nowhere near that vigorous with my 110v. Whirlpool hop fountain was a nice add in 😂
@@Cheezer1966 Thanks! Glad you found it helpful. Yep, this is a 220V 65L, picked it up when they had a rare sale on them even though it's twice as big as I'd typically need, but I definitely like having the 3500W. Glad you liked the hop fountain. :) Thanks for watching!
Definitely one of my favorite beers
Yea I’ll have to order that one up for my next brew. I’ve ordered a few from them recently because my local HBS closed.
I think i saw someone put the hop spide in the middle of the chiller so it's still in
@@meir1224 Thanks! Great suggestion. And thanks for watching!
I brew a big adjunct stout every year for winter and I use some dark dme to bolster the abv without thinning the beer.
Thanks -- I'll mess around in Brewfather and see how some DME could work. I appreciate you sharing your approach. Thanks for watching!
As always, looks like a great beer! Also looks like the Brewzilla wasn’t as mean to you this time around 😊
@@GREEENZO thanks! The Brewzilla worked great this time. Hope it stays that way. Next brew day is in about a week so we'll see. Thanks for watching!
I just realized I never commented here, so huge sorry! Well first of all, thanks for the shoutout buddy. 😊 This is also a great example of how forgiving beer is. I never had an issue this severe with a brewing system, however I definitely recall that I needed to transfer wort between kettles, leaving it unboiled for longer that it should have or even skipping the boil whatsoever. I am happy that the beer turned out too :) And I definitely would try the beer if you'd hand it to me :D
I REALLY appreciate you not letting me dump it! Now I have something as a first try on this Black IPA to see what I want to change next time, and it's drinking pretty well now that it settled down a bit. I'm glad I wound up with beer for the effort, messy as it was to get there! Cheers!
I live in Ohio and I have never seen a couple of those beers. I just finished a 6 pack of Atomic Pumpkin and it is my favorite pumpkin beer. I love mole stouts and other chili beers in general though. The less pumpkin-y the better and the spice dominates Atomic Pumpkin’s flavor. Pumpking is disgusting to me it’s very artificial tasting imo.
I know a couple of other people who really like Atomic Pumpkin -- just goes to show you how different people's preferences and palates can be. I'm with you on Pumpking, I can take maybe one and then I don't need anymore for a year, and that artificial characteristic definitely builds up. I'll have to try Atomic Pumpkin again this year and see if I come around any on it. ;-) Thanks for watching!
Pumpkin ales brewed well are very delicious
@@preuc3367 if you have examples of ones you like I'd love to try some! Cheers!
@@irondalebrewingI prefer maris based with some nice caramel, minimal hops but some subtle noble character and then a nice neutral yeast with pumpkin added to the mash. Abv 5%
I appreciate your sacrifice, good sir!
Ha thanks! It's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it. :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video
@@preuc3367 Cheers! Thanks for watching!
I love my bucket blaster. Easily one of the best purchases I've made in the last few years. I use it to clean near every container I have....buckets, kegs, fermenters, carboys...you name it. And bonus the pump setup you can use for other things like beer line cleaning and running a wort chiller thru and ice bag. The possibilities are endless! Cheers!
@@WreckedBrewery Yep definitely seems like I'll be finding all sorts of uses for this thing! Cheers!

Thanks for watching and subscribing!
good stuff! Ill try this next. Good idea to flush the hose before connecting and to set the pressure before connecting as well
Yep, great points! Hopefully I can remember that step on future batches.
I'm glad it came out. Sometimes RDWHAHB is all you can do and looks like you weren't let down with that. Cheers!
The old RDWHAHB adage comes true once again! Sorry for the Murphy's Law brew day, but I'm sure the next one will be better!
@@GREEENZO Yep! Got beer out of it so it's a win, and the subsequent brew day on the new Brewzilla went much bettet. :) Thanks for watching!
Just tried my flash brewing citra pale ale and , like you, I was shocked at how well it came out! Cheers 🍻
Yep, pretty darn tasty! Thanks for watching!
Great looking beer! It does take a few brews to get the Brewzilla dialed in but once you’re there it’s pretty consistent. I have found that stirring it a few times during the mash will increase your efficiency quite a bit. Cheers 🍻
Thanks! I was pleased with this one. Great point about stirring -- I stir about every 15 minutes to make sure nothing is clumped up, and because I can't help myself. ;) I was a bit concerned on this first batch with too much grain getting through the false bottom so the mill setting I used for this batch (Mighty Mill 3 roller) was 0.04". I have a couple more Brewzilla brew day videos in the works where I milled the grains finer and used a brew bag but still got about the same efficiency. Another viewer said that to him the shot of the grains in this video after I removed the malt pipe looked like there were quite a lot of whole grains in there ("It should look more like oatmeal" is specifically what he said), so I'm going to run some sacrificial grain through the mill and mess with the settings to make sure it's doing what I think it's doing. I might also mill my next batch twice and see if that helps. I wouldn't mind getting up to something like 70% but as you said consistency is the main thing. I did get a lot better efficiency (usually around 80%) doing small batches with a brew bag in a kettle, which is kind of interesting. Anyway, lots to experiment with which is a big part of the fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!
@@irondalebrewing I started out doing BIAB as well and did have to double crush my grains to get my efficiency up. My Brewzilla is a couple years old, V3 and I did have to change a few of the base values in Brewfather to be more in line with my setup. Grain crush is important in any system and yours did look undercrushed Anyways keep brewing and enjoying this hobby of ours and in the end as long as we’re making good beers that are enjoyable to drink don’t get too hung up on efficiency. I’ll keep watching your content as well.

looks great! Sounds like it tastes great too!
@@FermentationAdventures Thanks! I was really pleased with how it came out, despite the low efficiency/OG. I'll definitely take another run at this one.
No me gustó. Que mal producto.
Yep, I didn't have great luck with it. It was pretty finicky to use. I've since purchased a KegLand Rapt Filler that I'll do a video on soon. Thanks for watching!
If I had the gamn dood emoji icon on RUclips I would be using it!!!
So have you had a chance to brew with it yet? Do you still get dripping condensation or did it fix it? I have a similar dilemma, i build a new house with a dedicated brewery and have yet to install some kind of exhaust system. Condensate hoods seem to be the best fit except for the price...
@@arneschmidt3445 Yep, sorry I didn't follow up on this! It made the dripping issue about 98% better, so definitely a win. Basically if I just wipe it down a couple of times during the boil it's good which is WAY better than before. I've since added a 65L BrewZilla that I run over by a window with a fan blowing the steam out the window, but when I do a smaller batch this has proven to be a big improvement. Thanks for watching!
Forgot to mention -- I also started doing 30 minute boils which helped too. Just have to up the hops accordingly to compensate for the shorter boil.
Cheers Matt! Thanks for the kind words! The experiment is a bunch of fun! I need to get my reviews chugging along to!
Thanks for the excellent beer Kurt!
They look great
@@AlmostAny1 Taste pretty great too. Thanks for watching!
I did the Citra kit and was also pleasantly surprised how good it came out. These kits definatly have a place. For me, I typcally don't brew much in summer. I live in southern Nevada and its just too hot in my garage. So when I saw these kits just had to try one. Will be purchasing again.
@@kegtapper09 thanks, another great use case for these!
I’ve done 2 flash kits so far and all in all I like them. If I had to pick one thing I’d like to improve it’s the sweetness I get with the finished beer.
@@CTP-bbq-HundHutte Do you mean you think the finished beer is a little too sweet? That was kind of my reaction as well, particularly with the I Heart IPA. I tend to like pretty dry beers though. If the I Heart IPA was a bit more crisp in the finish that would be a big improvement IMO but everyone's tastes are different of course.
@@irondalebrewing yes I think they are a little too sweet but they are still drinkable and for the amount of work that goes into them I will definitely keep trying them
Thanks
good video
@@martyandjamie thanks for watching!
If you are filling pet bottles just use a carb cap on the bottle. Purge with CO2 first by attaching gas and cracking the carb cap open a little. Leave the bottle under pressure, connect the liquid disconnect and crack the carb cap open a little to control the flow. Simple!
@@stripeyjoe Nice! Thanks for the suggestion!
Jerry's beer was good and did taste a little of the quik, but it was a good amount used I feel. Not too overpowering. However now you have me interested to try yours and see the difference haha. Cheers!
@@WreckedBrewery Yep! The amount and technique worked well. I'll apologize in advance for mine.
I tried this and my ball lock made an annoying quaking sound. Like the the poppet in the ball lock is vibrating and not fully opening.
@@tjschuldt197 Hmm that's odd. Have you tried a different ball lock post or disconnect? Could also be the post wasn't fully sealed maybe? I had one leak a little when the parts of the post weren't tightened up.
I just did the same kit and i had a slight issue with adding the full last two gallons. I ended up with 5-1/2 gallons in my fermenter with all the ingrediants. Especially after reading in the Flash Brew FAQ it says to top up to five gallons.
Interesting, thanks for sharing that! On the instruction sheets they have you add three gallons, then add the ingredients, and then add another two gallons, so it's interesting they have an FAQ that says to top the fermenter up to 5 gallons. You of course do lose a bit of volume from the trub so in the two batches I've done I found that if you use 5 gallons of water you wind up with pretty much exactly 5 gallons of finished beer, but seems like some consistency/clarity would be helpful. Thanks for watching!
Cheers! Interesting thoughts as usual with this run of vids. You’re going to finish them all first!
Trying all these great beers is such a tough job. :)
easier just to buy a fermzilla all rounder -if possible
Yep, I'm kind of incrementally headed in that direction, particularly since I have a couple of 7-gallon Fermonsters with no spigot and I was going to add a liquid post and floating dip tube to those. I've built a DIY Fermzilla at that point, although these still can't handle true pressure fermentation. When I first started doing things this way I was doing small (2.5 gallon) batches and the smallest Fermzilla is twice as big as I needed so modifying these smaller Fermonsters made sense, but now that I'm doing mostly 5-gallon batches I'm probably going to get an all rounder. That'll give me the ability to ferment under pressure and in theory that'll also make things a bit less complex since instead of having to swap out the blowoff tube for the SodaStream canister to do the cold crashing, I can hook all that up at the beginning of fermentation and just lower the temperature in the fermentation chamber to cold crash. I appreciate the nudge toward getting a Fermzilla -- thanks for watching!
I have the TapCooler which is pretty much the same thing. You may have figured this out by now, but after purging shove the bottle up into the seal and then press the purge button AGAIN to pressurize the bottle. Then, open the faucet, and since the keg and bottle are at the same pressure it shouldn’t even flow at all, this is when you open the PRV thing up, slowly at first, then once you have about 2-3 inches of beer in the bottle, slightly twist out to fill faster (the foam seems to only really happen at the beginning of the transfer). Very little foam and no O2, I’ve had even hazies last in bottles for months. Cheers!
@@GREEENZO Nice, thanks for the tip! That makes a lot of sense and will definitely work better than how I was doing it so I appreciate you sharing. I've since gotten a Rapt filler and Cannular canner but I'm sure I'll still have the need to do some bottles with the Nukatap filler, and this will help me do much better next time. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words. This has been a fun experiment. I'm loving all the different ways to add strawberries to this wheat beer. Cheers!
Thanks for the beer -- really enjoyed it!

Thanks for watching, and thanks for the subscription!
When I did mine, I used a sanitized malt paddle to mix up the DME's "doughballs"...(my fermenter isn't so easy to pick up and shake)
@@brucecampbell8355 Nice! Since MoreBeer said you didn't need to stir I went "by the book" but I'm sure stirring can't hurt. This all reminds me that I think this batch is ready to taste now! And since I still haven't done a tasting video on the Citra Session Pale Ale I'll probably just combine the two. I'll be curious to hear what you think when your batch is done!
I just kegged a batch of this kit - tasted good coming out of the fermenter - we'll see how it tastes in a few weeks!
