    As much as I am all for teaching advanced english, I HATE this whole “DoNt uSE VeRy” nonsense. It’s effectively saying; don’t use Native English vocabulary, use words we imported from the French in order to make the working class feel bad!

      @ Thanks for stopping by! I completely agree with you. Social media algorithms (looking at you, TikTok) amplify posts about neopronouns because they drive high engagement - both from those who are very supportive of the trans-community and from those who are highly antagonistic. This creates a false impression that this shift in language is more widespread than it actually is.

      Thanks for leaving a comment! With dead I think you're more likely to hear the idioms "I'm dead tired" or "I'm dead on my feet" to describe being tired rather than just "dead".

      @ I did some serious research, and according to Merriam-Webster first known use of the word ‘briefcase’ dates back to 1900. And that thing in the picture is never that young. It was out of fashion at the time of the Titanic. A clear point to the lady on this one😁

      Have you ever actually said the term “soft drink”? I’ve seen it in writing but I don’t think I’ve ever used this term while speaking.

      I try to say soft drink, but sometimes I just say “drink” or “something from the vending machine” as we usually get these from vending machines. If I want a specific soft drink, I say the name of the brand (e.g., Sprite, Cola (or coke), Pepsi)
