How do I really feel about parrots in captivity?

While I dearly love my parrots and the pet bird community we all share, I also have my own opinions about what humans have done to these animals and their future moving forward #parrots #petbirds

...I didn't let the experience turn me away from learning about and spending time with parrots. Like it or not, negative memories do impact us, but we can choose to let them influence a more positive trajectory towards a more empathetic and understanding future. Watch me help this beautiful sun conure feel comfortable and healthy again with a simple nail trim. Long nails are very dangerous for ...
Shelby gets a beak trim and oil
Просмотров 2 тыс.16 часов назад
Shelby's always been very shy about his beak being touched. He's obviously had some past trauma with beak trims, which have been a necessity for his whole 33 year life, because he has a deformity called prognathism. I've been trimming his beak without restraint for months, but today, I was finally able to shine it up with a little bit of coconut oil! He's come a long way with what kind of conta...

Elderly Parrot Transformation

Two of my friends and I came together to get this elderly orange winged Amazon parrot into her final retirement home, to live out her feathered golden years in comfort! She took a pit stop with me on the way to work on her beak, nails, coconut moisturizing, and a cozy bath. Her feathers look so much more vibrant at the end!
Feeding Baby Bruce, the rescued Blue and Gold Macaw
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
Bruce is an 11 month old blue and gold macaw that I rescued. The people who sent them to me had noticed some behaviors that made them think he was having seizures, but it turns out, he’s actually developmentally delayed. We don’t know yet if he will fully catch up to his peers, only time will tell. This is why his feathers look like they do. They had broke off during thrashing episodes. Once he...

“Boba eyes” I love that.
Bless you for helping this animal
You can see how happy he is at the end. So bright & I'm sure his mouth feels better.
These neglected birdies make me so sad 😢
Paco is very well behaved. He is a joy.
Paco just had the best first day of his new start you’re so sweet to take extra time with him💚
He has a beautiful face. 💕💕
A very beautiful creature. Thank you!❤
What a sweet little guy. xx He looked so contented.
❤️💚
Awe it's nice seeing such a happy, fulfilled iguana just chilling, and the soft reminder that they are no jokes as pets.
Great little video, snappy, full of info, with interesting visuals to match! I hope we can see more of Jack in the future!
For sure!
So curious as to how you came to this work. Are you a pet groomer, a vet, a vet tech? Who knew that parrot beak corrective trimmer is a job! It is always interesting to me what people do for work and how they got their.
!Guauu! !You made a difference for that lovely parrot! !You are an angel! I fell so good after seen your video, I also clip my all dog’s nails.. and use one of those.. !Thank you for sharing it with me.!🙏🏼 God bless you a lot!.
He's so handsome. The look on his face when the fruit hit the floor was priceless. Like he's way too dignified to eat that now it's fallen in the leaves. 🤣
Who eats floor fruit like some peasant??
@@geckoemmy For real!!😁
What a beautiful narration of living with an amazing animal! ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed
There's a video somewhere of someone taking care of a parrot like this, on his back. He's not covered. He even tells the person they can keep going. Parrots are smart as hell
I shared life with three iguanas for 18 years all adopted at different stages in 1994. They love greens such as kale collard greens a little bit of dandelion greens and some alfalfa sprouts blueberries mango papaya as a topping The greens are for the calcium and phosphorus an so they won’t develop metabolic bone disease. If you have some nasturtium flowers or leaves, that’ll be good too. They love that but ensure that you give them fresh from the garden that is not fertilized with anything or treated with any other man-made pesticides. we also provided what is called a vita light for UVAUVB lighting his enclosure sounds much as the ones that I had for our iguanas maintaining their heat source at least 12 to 18 inches away from their bodies including their vital light, not being farther than 18 inches, but also allowing a nightlight for gentle warmth a neodymium nightlight. having natural wood for them to lay on and some flat natural rocks he looks beautiful. I can see that you have taken care of him. His jaw looks beautiful. His bones must be strong, and he eats very well. Look up the book iguana iguana the man who wrote it used to be the vet to our iguanas he was a veterinarian to reptiles at UC Davis for 26 years nine years old he looks very beautiful. You have taken care of him. Well, I shared what I have learned in life with others. I wi why sh you well and a long life for your dear iguana. 🦎🌱🌺 they also love the occasional hibiscus flower.❤
Jack loves hibiscus, too! We have one we brought inside for the winter and he gets the day old flowers. They are such an interesting but demanding animal. I think they should not be available as pets unless someone has the right setup, and it's difficult to do for most households. It sounds like yours were so well cared for!!
He is being so good poor boy. Yes they do deserve better! Maybe a man abused him so he likes women better. I am sure his knew owner will treat him good and get him good things to eat and lots of love! Thank you for helping Paco!❤😢
👍
Poor old bird somebody didn't treat him well and didn't care for him at all. Just terrible. People can be so cruel. So sad. Glad he has somebody that cares about him now. I feel so bad for him poor baby. ❤
You most definitely made a difference in Paco's life. I'm sure he felt the love through your touch. I'd love to see or hear updates about him. He seems like a sweet fellow!
He looked very happy!
Paco has little eyelashes ... so cute !! thanks for helping him.
Just so everyone is aware as there is lots of misinformation about parrots on the internet. The beak is an organ with incredibly sensitive pain sensors and is 100% torture to the animal. REMEBER. UNTIL 1987 they thought HUMAN BABIES didn't feel pain and didn't give them Anesthesia. That was less than 40 years ago!!!!
Confused what this comment is insinuating. I'll let you clarify
Malocclusion is another cause of break overgrowth.
CAN WE ALL COMPLAINT TO GOVERNMENT TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL?
Parrot owner here, fully agreed. They shouldnt be pets.
That was wonderful, it's almost like restoring a living piece of art. Such a lovely, gentle bird.
I love Little Paco! May he live with his new owner for many happy, healthy days!
He looks like he's in heaven. ❤
I really enjoy these videos. Thanks for sharing.
I love Paco
I have two adopted Quakers. The messiest birds I have - they try not to foul their cage and therefore poop to the outside almost all the time. Yes they are a bit aggressive. But they make up for it by making art - weaving feathers and string into the cage bars
OMG watch for that tongue when clipping
I think she knows what to do and doesn't need you reminding her.
I fully agree. I feel the same way about most exotic pets, actually.. probably 90% of animals bought at a pet store go home to a short life of neglect. Guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, lizards, etc are almost always cared for improperly (and pet stores encourage it!!).
what a GOOF
What a great video. I learned a lot and I was so happy to see the bird get relief. God bless you!
I agree fully, not just with animals that shouldn't be in captivity, but even more common household pets. Puppymills are a good example, but the behavioural thing of being hand reared too young is a huge important thing for cats, for example. Kittens being taken away from their mother cat too young actually causes cats to be more aggressive. They don't learn not to bite or scratch or kick with their back feet if they're not taught by their mother not to be too harsh, or their litter mates how to be gentler when playing. They also have trouble using the litterbox if not taught by their mother; they learn best by copying her. Socialization is nice, but totally taking them from their mother too soon often leads to issues with pets.
I am with you one hundred percent on this. ❤
Amen!
I cant speak to you being a bird whisperer or guru... But wow, do you know how unsheathe those pin feathers. Those looked to be some happy birds right there. Soaking up the attention like little spikey sponges.
My favorite part of taking care of birds!
I like this line you said, and honestly think it could be said for other animals, like dogs and cats: "There are many great bird owners out there who are striving to do better, but there's simply too many parrots and not enough good permanent homes" Everyone who gets a pet thinks they'd be a good owner, but too many of them aren't. And the only policy I can imagine to fix this is mandatory foster periods prior to pet adoption
Yes, I think this problem exists for most animals, honestly. There's so many produced, but not enough homes to go around
thank you!!!! my parrots in their cages are miserable i took them in as rescues from a retired bird vet neighbor but my standard poodles want to kill them my son building granny flat for me says hard NO, NO PARROTS. i had complaints from all neighbors and county for mealy noise. i plan to keep and bring them anyway i always planned to have a full flight designer aviary but couldnt get that done. my mealy died, my blue front just wants to cuddle with me since he died and my lilac crown male does unbelievable acrobat feats to impress me holding his nutraberry circling around his perch. hes a genius i adore. i rely on Arch Angel Raphael and Michael and they do respond.
Your angels are not going to help your parrots. You need to find them better homes. They sound miserable.
Paco??
Excellent.
I didn’t know I liked bird videos until they started popping up on my feed.
I'm glad you're here! 😊
I'm so glad that this channel is getting more content! There's nothing I wouldn't do to own a Cockatiel or Conure... But I simply don't have the time, energy or resources to give the bird the quality of life it deserves. So instead I watch channels like yours, and appreciate parrots vicariously.
I love this so much, one of my childhood cockatiels just passed after nearly 25 years of companionship and the committment of parrot ownership cant be ignored. Someday Id like to adopt an elderly parrot to spend our golden years today.
I'm so sorry for your loss. That's a beautifully long and enriched life. I hope that you do someday open your home to a new bird friend!
They are such social creatures!! It's a life-time commitment for sure. I'm glad someone is pointing out the "down" sides of having a bird 😆
