Good luck Garrin. It sounds you have a number of exciting prospects and plans. All the best.
rolex is trash, easy to fake, easy to make, insane markup, seiko titanium try faking that
Depending on what kind of perks Rolex was offering you as far as health Insurance Vacation semi annual raises and or Bonuses + with always having work and the company not being slow in the department in your area of expertise I personally would have stayed with Rolex because at the end of the day a watch is still a watch and it’s very very hard to make a super comfortable secure living branching out on your own with only getting business here and there, but I am only going on what you just told us so that’s my two cents please don’t take offense to my comment I wish you the best and I hope it truly works out for you. A+ videos…
I see no way to get in touch with you so I am hoping this will work. It sounds like you may be in my area, which is McKinney Texas. I realize Paris is a little ways away. I am looking for someone to service a watch, I just inherited 1980s oyster perpetual that still keeps good time but is a mess. If you can give me a contact number I would appreciate it.
Pocketwatches when serviced can get a solid +-5 seconds a day or even better if the watchmaker is a perfectionist.
Is a watchmaker someone who doesn't "make" watches. I have always thought that making watches must be a special thing.
Congrats and best of luck as you being your teaching profession.
The cigarette burns are cool. I took the week-long "intro to watchmaking" course at the American Watch and Clock Institute in Harrison, OH earlier this year. Brings back memories!
Real watchmaker. Wears his loupe around his neck while driving! Has some serious coin invested in that shop!
It's good to quit rolex due to all big brands' underpaid watchmaker and overpaid their higher management but use watchmaker as advertising. Be
The real fact I am also a watchmaker but problem is even you can repair tourbillion or other complication but in the end of the day how much can you bring back home to feed the family. Passion the time amount you spend end up suffer still the family.
Really excited for you. Pretty cool to collect a bunch of toys. Enjoy.
Great video, would like to see how to fix broken dial feet, do you solder them and what soldering machine you use? Thanks
Great audio. Awesome video. Make a patreon page.
Thanks for the support! Patreon coming soon!
Have you ever lived in Switzerland or thought about moving there for watchmaking?
I would love to but from what I understand it’s very difficult to obtain a work visa for watchmaking as an American. Lots of great watchmakers there already, so it’s hard to convince the government you’re adding value.
@@garrinthewatchmaker thank you for the reply, just subscribed, I live in America as well, I’m 28 yo living in los Angeles. I was going to med school but got into a car accident, and I don’t want to get into details, but I had to drop out and my life took a turn. I’m thinking of pursuing watchmaking. I was thinking about joining Rolex or Patek Philippe school, but they train you mostly to service their watches for the rest of your life and there’s no ladder to climb. I’m afraid to pursue watchmaking because I want to have a family and I don’t know if I can provide if I’m a watchmaker. I’m really interested in the next step of your journey and what you’re going to pursue. Also, how much did you make working for Rolex? Sorry if that’s too personal
What a beauty. Even the chain ring is a work of art.
Coming together. Sooooo...do Bergeon now own both your kidneys or just the one, like the rest of us?
No I just went for the “soul trade” option.
I think Jack Mason dropped the ball. Two or three years ago their price range started under 200 and now their least expensive is over $400. Dan Henry, Avi-8, Torgoen and Bertucci are the best micro brands out there in the under $400 range. Any more than that for a micro brand is just silly.
That's great man, congrats!
My new fav RUclipsr
nice garrin - hope you can make a good living
I love this video. Looking to get one set up at my house for playing around in. I’m not going to be able to find a cleaning machine. But I’m buying that light!!!
I had my Rolex day date 18238 serviced but it didn’t pass water tester and ask if I want a new case but would be very expensive I ask is my watch in good working order they said yes but do not merge in water, question to is this something to be concerned I do not plan on swimming/beach ocean
12:52 looks like an ultrafancy espresso machine, 13:12 even has filters and everything 🤣🤣😂😂
Could you please make a review of your vintage workbench? Really like it, maybe would even try to make something similar for myslef in the future...
Also what is this song? It’s so good.
Check out @shirt_pocket_band on instagram😏
I am your biggest fan
whats the name of the shop you can find that light ? jules burell ?
Jules Borel!
Thanks so much. great videos
May be too late but I cut 4X8 white dry erase board to cover carpet it is shiny smooth and easy to clean. I then used white duct tape on all seams as to not lose parts between floor and walls.
look forward to the progress on your shop
You are so right about that light thing. North is the best. Although my ex gf sais, people who go for north are idiots. I am glad that I don’t have to discuss such things with her anymore. :D I wish you success with your new workshop! 🕐⚙️🍸
Great to hear you are at PJC! I went through the program there right before Poye transitioned out. A limitation of the program there was that there was only one instructor which extremely limited both the program at PJC and the potential for actually learning Watchmaking. You were for the most part left to work things out on your own. Very frustrating, since there were many things that I struggled greatly with where some proactive mentoring would have been so meaningful (looking at you KIF springs!)
DuFrane watches, Steven Lee comes out with some great watches and provides great service!
👎👎
I dont think youre a white eropeese, I think youre a khazarian tribe...you people dont have any ability in uhrenmacher.
Did your jeweler ever make you a counter offer to match PJC? If not, they just considered you ‘a pawn’.
Seems to me mechanical watch making has run it's course - it's been around for a long time and has been surpassed by new technology. Am I wrong?
Hey, a watchmaking channel I wasn’t subbed to. 😮 I just fixed that and liked the video. 😄 Best of luck on the career change and FWIW I think you made the right call! We desperately need more watchmaking educators in this country, very happy you chose that path and will help be teaching others. I don’t live anywhere close to PJC, but I’d love to do some traveling and attend workshops etc. Anyway, can’t wait to hear more about the new job - I’m sure you’ll love it! 👍
i don't understand how everybody has that book a man and his watch. Is an absolute zero book. everybody has it. Why?
I really would like to hear an educated appraisal of the B01 and El Primero 3600 movements.
Start fry the very beginning for future amateur watch makers like me. They’re are hard if not impossible to find a good one. They always cut corners.
Nobody cares. Make your own brand, keep 💯 quality, then we'll listen.
Heart on sleeve, thank you for keeping it real. T)
I would like to be a watchmaker but economic realities being what they are, I'd want to do it out of my own shop, also selling watches, clocks, and similar products.
Haha, wat een lul
Good luck!
Hope you got a goody bag filled with Rolex parts before left😂 best of luck in your path! If you’re ever in the U.K. let me know.
I quit as a watchmaker many years ago. It's nice watching tubes where watchmakers spend days working on jobs. The truth is it's about speed. You are often paid on a bonus scheme where your pay is based on the number of jobs you complete and this means cutting corners and racing work to make a living wage.
Good luck with your new job. I'd bet that you will be very successful at it.
Now the store has no watchmaker. That’s going to destroy their business.
Looking forward to your future content Respectfully Paul
How a learning and growth life philosophy settles on vintage pocket watches is almost as quirky as it gets, man. Why not go all the way, and focus on extinct musical instrument restorations? lol
What are you doing with your life that's so great? Doing your wagie job and playing video games?
