The Brilliant Women of Philosophy
Countless brilliant women have contributed to the history of philosophy. Sadly, their names are less mentioned, and their works less well known, so in this video we wanted to give a brief introduction to some of the women throughout history who have shaped the world we live in. We cover Diotima, Hypatia, Émilie du Châtelet, Simone de Beauvoir, and Hannah Arendt, but make no mistake, there are so many more, so we urge you to explore the vast trove of women in the history of philosophy. These philosophers are often overshadowed by their male counterparts, but many of them rose above all of their peers to become the top of their field.

Philosophers: Schopenhauer's Dark Philosophy of the Will as the Key to Happiness
Просмотров 214Месяц назад
The pessimistic philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer, especially as expressed in his concept of the will, is regarded by many as terrifying. Schopenhauer believes the world does not care for human ideas but instead seeks to perpetuate itself, consuming our lives in the process. But underneath this scary surface, Schopenhauer's philosophy unearths the possibility to find peace and happiness in this...

Bukowski is one of my favorites, so first thanks for introducing me to new poems of his. They hit me right in the right spot at the right time and gave a melancholy joy I cannot put my finger on. As far as what kind of videos I would like to see, maybe something that mentions how the philosophical pursuits people like us have can start being seen as worth it again, one way may be to start to teach philosophy and tie in just how important it is to work as far as pursuits in psych, social work, even coaching. You should look up a coach by the name of Jon Danaher, a true philosopher who uses his mind to help the people he coaches in BJJ & martial arts. Thanks again for this and I hope you keep doing what you want with this channel.

I think this video will be life-changing for me. I’m experiencing an episode of depression and his words ring so deeply for me. First, the concept of Hegemonic Fantasms is profoundly true and undeniable imho. His attention to his origin is apropos to my recovery experience. I was also unfamiliar with Meister Eckhart, but now that I know that he was condemned as a heretic by the pope, and was forced to retract his words despite his broad acceptance outside the <christian> church gives me great reassurance that he was divinely inspired. Clearly profound to me. I had never heard of Reiner Schürmann before today, but I have been obsessed with the German idealists, especially Hagel, Nietze, Jung and Heidegger, so Schürmann is the lineage holder that I had been waiting to learn about. I find Shürmann is a very appropriate successor to Heidegger and the German idealist lineage. Thus my study begins…

It's based on Gnosticism and one of the most dangerous ideologies in human history.. Modern philosophers are people with mental problems who invent ideologies in order to solve the problems they created in their heads. These are not true philosophers, like the Ancients, who observed how the world works and described it; they're men who use philosophies as a means to an end but never have the self-awareness to analyze why they desire those ends in the first place. In other words, modern philosophers are people who invent ideologies in order to justify their own pathology.

Kinda hinges in with what I mentioned to this channel in another comment on another one of their videos. Mindlessly parrots of the great philosophers to sound interesting, instead of doing actual philosophy. No hate against the channel. Just a general assessment. But having that said. Yes, that's for LOOKING interesting. Not being it. But then that's such a common theme, today, that... What else's new, right?... And this was in the ancients, already as well. Take Diogenes, taking on Plato, at the time, plucking a chicken and saying, "behold Plato's man". Now THAT'S true philosophy. Falsification. Man's oldest disease. But it works. Here we are, discussing it under this video. And again. No hate to these people here, but, yeah... If this is a means to an end.... Congratulations?... "What I'm saying is nothing new. The Truth is as old as the hills" (Ghandi). And he was right. The Truth is as old as the hills. Hills don't lie. With all their disasters and rises, tectonic plates moving and all that, they became hills. Hills can't lie, because, would they (be able to), there wouldn't be any hill... They might rise... But they always fall... Just like everyone of us, in the end. PS May we seem to agree, as I seem to see, most philosophy is just theory. This Hegel-video is a good example of that. Some things evolve. Something, mostly certainly, do not... “A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.” -- "Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words: 'Ye must have faith.'" Max Planck... TRUE Creators are Genuine, aware that they are not fully self-aware and thus, Humble, imho. PPS Narcissism is probably (maybe even not only) humanity''s oldest "loophole disease"... It's progressing, but... Gosh... Is become better, or is it becoming worse?

Bukowski... Yeah... This poem is really deep... It cuts the core of the issue at large... I just replied elsewhere, on an article about radicalization among (not only) children at schools. It was a reply to a school teachter, saying: "Schools are increasingly becoming learning factories in which we train children for exams. There is hardly any time for reflection" My reply: "There you hit a VERY IMPORTANT nail on the head. For a HUGE number of problems, which OUR society has, because, that radicalization, that doesn't come from nowhere either. That one gets air. And why does it get air? FROM this pressure, that is, among other things, of course. The Age of Wisdom. When are we going to get involved, huh?.... What chaos..."

What do you think about Schopenhauer's concept of the will? Could this actually help us better understand life?

    • @bjorn6096
      @bjorn6096 Месяц назад

Hi PoT... Hmm... Maybe that's not such a good acronym after all... Please forgive me... I'm just gonna leave it there, as it was purely innocent without any pun intended, as the English say... But anyway... Hi!... It's your favourite pessimist again!... "Is Schopenhauer's 'The Will' maybe a better way of understanding life?"... Dear Power of (not very well) Thought (through for the acronym)... Have you met anybody, lately, that is busy with, or even had the incentive, to think about the meaning of life, really?... Anyway... To answer your question... I came back here, on the note of you video, to answer (before I read this comment): the latter remarks were quite accurate, I believe. "Who's will?"... That's a very good question... I mean... Are you really interested in our thoughts, or is it the RUclips algorithm that is interested in our thoughts, or/so, is actually nobody interested in our thoughts... Not the reason I came back here, to say that, but it rolled out, as I remembered that typical icky feeling when you said that... I know you're trying to increase visibility of your channel, but this is exactly my point, PoT (please replace with your personal name that I don't know -- I'm trying to build rapport here, but I'm guessing my acronym is not the best way of doing that, but maybe it will break the ice a little, hopefully -- having fun about ourselves is a great gift (to self) -- anyway -- where was I?... O, right...).... Do you understand that I would say that a lot of today's things wouldn't exist, would we figure out who we truly are and what truly is the thing that drives OUR will?... Think about... What would you really bring doing today, would you be able to see the day completely a new?... Would you still try to beat the algorithm?... Or would you be doing something totally different?... Do yourself a favour... Ask 3 why's in row... The first why, you have a pretty clear idea of why you're doing what you're doing... The second why, it's starts getting difficult, already and by the third why, you have NO IDEA eh why you're doing what you're doing... I say; go there... It's THE party... Nothing violent about it... In fact, all the opposite... There just is... I feel that most of violence is created by those who blindly proclaim what order looks like, while they crash from one side in the guardrail, five lanes to the other side in the guardrail, breaking and speeding, constantly over the warning bumps next to the road, while looking back to the rear seat, talking to you there, psychoticly, discussing senseless pursuits that totally go over and thus, ignore, the slew they're doing that from... So, yes!... OF COURSE it's important to recognise what your wants are, in opposition to what others wants are. I would even go as far as saying that it's maybe more so, at first, about what you DON'T want... Kabbalah... You can only find out what it is, by finding out what it is NOT. And intelligence knows what it wants... Wisdom knows what it DOESN'T want... Well... Einstein supposedly once said; "if I give you a penny, you will be one penny richer and I will be one penny poorer. However, when I have an idea and you have an idea because of my idea, you will have an idea and I will still have it too"... Einstein also supposedly said that he could "burn his own fingers" for writing that letter to Roosevelt... Apparently Einstein was a little naive?... Nonetheless, though, PoT (please forgive, I would rather use your really name here, honestly)... What is your will and, so, particularly, what is it that you wouldn't want [to do] now?... Luke 6:31-32... Not a religious freak by any stretch, PoT.... But I believe that those are Wise words?... Back to you...

Hello Bjorn Please forgive my absence in responses as life has gotten very busy traveling as of late, PoT or Power of Thought is fine to address either way as there is more than one of us working on these videos. To be clear, these videos are merely expositional interpretations of the philosophers we choose to cover, and not strictly my own thoughts about life or ‘will’ as we know it, other than the thoughts at the end of the video. To respond to your answer, I agree that the Will has created many of the events of society that have emerged over time. By asking yourself “Do you know what you want” it is more about lending a direction to individual people who feel lost in these events as they encounter them. To bring a conscious awareness to those who struggle with the unclear will of others and themselves. So when someone does go through the series of questions you presented, they would ultimately lead back to the initial question “what do I want”. By using this line of questioning, one would be able to make sense of why some of these dangerous events happen in our lives, such as someone recklessly driving on the road as per your metaphor. Schopenhauer has a method of self-reflection here, that allows the noise of these events to align momentarily, and bring context to our own noise and recklessness. Life is full of repetition and new beginnings, we have no choice but to examine these beginnings of everyday life from a new perspective. This goes for your mentioned quote at the end as well, to continuously approach the question of action towards others, lends itself to continuously asking yourself the same question of yourself, “What do I want” in contrast. We do truly appreciate your interest and engagement with the topics and videos we’re putting out and thank you for your genuine input.

@@PowerofThought_ Hi there. Travelling. That comes on as a blip on the radar of my, I believe I can meanwhile say, x-ray understanding of the intangible. A type of character that has no distinct form or shape, yet, is drawn to similar interests, points and conclusions. "Logos", as Zeno would put it? Which hinges in with Schoppebhauer's of the Will?... I cringe at the humanly made logos. Not all, but, in general. Also "The question concerning technology", therefore, comes into play, imho... All added together, we are very unaware of most things, it seems to me, while we create them... And moreover... Is "losing your mind" not necessary (which we, nonetheless, "combat" as a disease), "thus spoke Zarathustra" (first monotheïsm we know of in human history).... (a little seemingly side rack) Entropy doesn't always increase, unlike some people are taught to believe (thermodynamics) ... Entropy _usually_ does not decrease... Given enough time, however, entropy does decrease, however ever so more very occasionally, given the the larger amount of space and time... As I lately said to someone, thus, somewhat sarcastically, thought meant, of course, also in aspect of the eternal return subject you crossed recently, "it's a kinda comforting idea that The Universe (and possibly beyond) doesn't restart every 5 minutes, right?"... Due to your coverage of Nietzsche, recently, I looked up the Wikipedia... The source? 😉... Could be a coincidence, of course, but it nearly covers the entire video. However, we're talking about the same person, of course, so in this case potentially correlations _with_ correlata (I just gave you a potential exit strategy, although I, of course, as you might comprehend, meanwhile, highly appreciate authenticity, of course). 😉 Nice that you're covering the reiteration of the great thinkers of that past. Maybe also cover some Diogenes "the dog", to get some perspective... Imho possibly the most respectable philosopher in history?... May you not know him, let me start by making my usual joke about the guy, working as a software developer, "possibly Jesus version 0.1 alpha release". 😅 I would love to bring him back here and have a good laugh with the guy, wouldn't you... Maybe also I would skip the part of masturbating in public, depending on how hammered I'd be, even although, generally, I near to never drink!... I might with this guy... What I'm asking is; where are the great thinkers of today?... Not the (please forgive me, but often times) narcissistic reiterating of the "great philosophers" that everybody learns about in school and university, but the ones that truly think for themselves, unhindered by education (read, however unfortunate, "conditioning" too)?... Another one, Francis Bacon; "universities incline wits in sophistry and affectation". Not necessarily so, but in the prime of developing narcissistic tendencies, we give these kids the power of information, usually "well distilled from moral", because, "that's 'unnecessarily' complicated" and (here comes) "slows us down" (the question concerning technology?) and thus, again, we continue to (literal Dutch translation, for lack of my knowledge for a better translation) rumble over the same road again, just a little faster... You've guessed it... Here it comes: ... 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ Should I start my own channel?... I used to do professional video editing and post production, actually, once upon a time. I could do it all alone, which, nonetheless, would totally slow me down, too, of course... Your thoughts are important to me... Please leave you comments in the comment section below... 😉 Nonetheless, have a good one, guys (and girls? I suppose not and please forgive me, may I be mistaken, because I'm happy to be proven wrong, also in that aspect) and until our paths cross again. Take care. I'm going to enjoy the sun on the beach here, for a moment. PS What countries/country, if I may ask?

I write about how insanely ass backwards "normal life" is to me and how I drink too much, not about living a life I dont live or know. If you’re doing something because you absolutely have to, because there is just no other way, because anything else will make you miserable, failure doesn’t matter anymore. It’s not about succeeding or failing, but about doing it. Charles’ carreer was a complete failure for most of his life, yet he kept on returning to writing. His goal wasn’t success, his goal was to write. Because there was just no other way. Don’t try.

Also the recent shorts, which hit home some things for me that have kept me busy for a LOONG time, as well... Democritus' atoms, for instance... Fascinating... How did he known and, how would he consider the things that we have found 2500 years later?... Insane thought experiment, I'd say... I would even tip-over in the mysterious, given this video, also... It kinda reminds me of the story of the Buddha, from riches to rags, to intangible resolve, also Nietzsche (and I myself) seem to have experienced revelations like that in our own way, which only reminds me again, of the different takes on what the eternal return could look like. As they like to say, in Thailand, a "funny sentence", with deep philosophical meaning, when you think about it, really, I believe; "same same, but different". Anyway... Thanks for your videos and maybe this has given you some more ideas... Although not necessarily religious; be safe, God bless. PS I have noticed that the search query 'power of thought nietzsche' doesn't directly find me your video, to my great surprise. Not sure if I should put this up here, but then again, isn't that part of the problem, I was wondering, which brought me back here... Why?... Well... You think about life. Reflect on life. Are busy with more than, what I like to call, "the 10 meter mist" that people live in, "their own little needs (read wants)"... Your channel gets little to know love, BECAUSE it reflects on life, meaning and all those things. It usually isn't really fun, but darn interesting for the sparked mind, so, hence, unloved, because, let's face it... How many are we, really? 😅... I mean... How long are you able to hold a valuable conversation with someone, these days?... Here we are, like bookworms, hungry for info and then try talking to average Jane or average Joe... And average Jane and average Joe aren't even the worst... Please don't take me the wrong way... I don't want to judge people. Certainly not as a whole, but, 40+ years on this globe has taught me... Has lost me most of my illusions and I'm increasingly concluding that... People, as good as, might not be able to really think anymore... I mean... Beyond the simple primary gain?... Please forgive me for this reply. I hope I don't take your hopes down. I'm curious to hear your honest opinion about it, also. In fact, maybe it could even become a hot-button topic, although I would really need to think about how to get beyond the "comes to close, filter out"-filter. Maybe your channel is already somewhat shadow banned for this reason... It's not happy, not narcissistic, not about kittens... And that's also an interesting subject; how about to risk of filtering everything out that we don't like (with or without AI)?... Sounds like a great plan, really?... Isn't this running away from reality?... Anyway... You can notice... I could go on for hours... May you wanna get in touch to think along, I would be delighted, by the way. A privilege, even. I have a DEEP ambition to "solve this world", but, well, I suppose I don't need to explain to you; "don't get your hopes up is an understatement, maybe? 😅"... Nonetheless, though, I like a challenge... I would love to hack the matrix/their minds... Not for the sake of hacking the matrix/their minds... But would it bring more realness into the world and humbleness, I believe we would have done the world a great favour... Might I even be so pessimistic and optimistic at the same time by maybe even suggesting, "Saviour"?... So... After long though, about this, and many things... Something you can always wish somebody, no matter who or when or where, without foul; Wishing you Wisdom and all the best with that. Maybe I'll hear from you. May you wish to, we could find a way to exchange contact info and possibly discuss about it. I would be delighted. Once again, be safe & God bless.

I think I had my Nietsche moment when the thing fell and never would return back -- for years. I think the moral is a true leader does not need a substance, physical possessions, or a privledge to distinguish him from another. He can get by without them. What he needs is motivation.

Very cool presentation. I recall my philosophy classes in college and realize how superficially nietzsche was covered. This presentation causes me to want to know more of his thought.

I've thought about the eternal return before reading this and I didn't know Nietzsche said anything about this. I don't know if it makes life joyful again but it made me realize that I would do a lot of things the same over again despite saying I wouldn't at times. It made me sort of realize what I want and what makes me happy are two different things. I often do what makes me unhappy because I want to for x reason. My purpose to life not being happiness but my will.

Love the thoughts... But when you choose for "not happiness", then aren't you choosing for happiness, anyway, because you are choosing the happiness which is not happiness?... Sounds contradictory at first, maybe, but, maybe this is the path to self?... Your definition of happiness, at first, about the thing you might reject, might be the social construct of "happiness". Not YOUR happiness. So even although you might reject "social construct happiness", you are choosing "YOUR happiness". This wasn't directly glaringly obvious to me, so to say, during my life, but, now, in retrospect, I believe that I have come to learn to know myself and, eventually, accept myself, free from social construct... Although I don't .... in public... Diogenes the dog comes back to mind again... Especially this LMFAO-version about him... I don't drink anymore, but, maybe I would have a drink, with Diogenes, could we bring him back here... Almost never wrote a word and we still talk about him today! ruclips.net/video/d7aWla3cwNg/видео.html --> Even TED with a serious note on his take, over 2000 years later!... ruclips.net/video/Utzym1I_BiY/видео.html... Potentially enjoy! 😉

At the very least , the topic of the video could have his name pronounce correctly. Pathetic.

Dr. Peter Kreeft Alexander Koryagin Dr. Michael Sugrue Graham H. Walker David J. Theroux Just to name a few scholars and speakers on Augustine that use this pronunciation. Your self-righteous claim to trivial knowledge seems pretty pathetic to me.

Just found ur channel and really enjoy your takes! Do cover larger existential topics, i feel like yes on one side we focus on how to fulfill our personal lives but we all have those big lingering questions too afraid to follow because we cant find the answers, what do we do with that, so if you’d bring in other thinkers on suffering, nature of life, altered states, reality, etc.

In 1940~50s America went Orwellian, the royalty program spied on 1.5 million federal workers. Then in 1960, they begun using ideas from Huxley instead, and it worked. 'They' were behind music, sex & drugs of that era.
